What is love?
Can one truly feel love?
I've never felt love in my bitter black heart, where happiness goes to die and dreams wither away to nightmares.

Yes.  Though they also had their own problems and were not always able to know how to do it well without friction. They did the best they could and there were many times when their love really came through and if they hadn't I don't know where I'd be.  I am thankful I still have them around and hope I do for many more years to come.

I am very sorry to hear that.

Same. Sad  I won't try to pretend to know what that feels like, but you certainly have my sympathies.

This. It has to be really rough Sad But if your parents don't love you, they probably don't deserve you. I hope you'll find people who do deserve you, you have my sympathy as well.

That's what they say, and I have little reason to disbelieve them.

I would like to think so, but I can't blame them if they did/do not.

I've been very blessed to have wonderful relationships with both my parents. I realize that's rare and I don't take it for granted.

Yes, they did.

I will also say that my mother understood me more than I gave her credit for.  I figured this out near the end of her life.

My Dad died on my 10th birthday, so I'm not big on birthdays.

No.

My mother used me as a pawn my whole life, all the while treating me in horrible ways and doing things that have scarred me since my childhood.

I hope she dies alone and impoverished and then rots in hell.

My father is an alcoholic and I just try to avoid him. He's not bad deep down, I don't think. Just the alcohol.

Very well, where do I begin?

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery.

My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really.

At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

Thankfully yes they do.

I can't exactly express much in text, but I'm sorry.  I think you're a good person who deserves love, and I wish you the best of luck Scarlet.
