I'm answering the question you asked.

I worded it kind of oddly I guess (blame the character limit), I was asking more if connection to "chosen groups" is itself a form of nationalism as at least one person seems to think.

I mean yeah I do consider myself much closer to the other people in my scene than people of a similar ethnic background or who happened to be born in the same country, but I don't see that as nationalism.

Well...obviously no, one can only be a nationalist about a nation.
