British ones, not American ones.

I love them. I love (American) biscuits, a great deal, and scones are like cake biscuits. Best thing ever.

I love them! I frequently get vegan scones at the co-op.

I have no idea what the difference is between American and British scones, but the only kind of scone I've ever eaten (across the county, in Texas, DC and NY) is a FF.

British scone- soft and fluffy like an American biscuit. Scones with jam and clotted cream and tea- the best thing ever, sans fried plantain.

American scone- hard and dry, like a British biscuit.

the scones I had in England were not anything like american biscuits.  They were not all that different from American ones.  We tend to load ours with fruit and stuff though

I like both American biscuits and American scones very much. FF either way. Never had clotted cream though, and I've always wanted to try it.

Try unsalted butter.. it's fairly close to clotted cream.

This is all just far too confusing.

If you mean the type you have at Devonshire tea with home-made jam and some cream, Freedom Food.

Silly boy: plenty of working class people eat scones. The class issue rears its (inevitable) head in pronunciation.

indeed.

By the way, we drove down to Washington yesterday and spent the day at the National Museum of Natural History.  It turns out that a platypus doesn't look like this:

It looks like this:

who knew?

As for scones, I'm not a fan.  Not a fan of Nachos, either.  Or egg rolls, for what it's worth.  How any of this passes for snack food, I'll never understand.

Beef Jerky?  Now, we're talking snack food.  That probably deserves its own thread, though.

maybe it's like calzone.  That comes in at least three varieties.  I usually treat the E as silent, making the O long.  I'd probably do that with scone as well, except that I have absolutely no reason to ever pronounce the word, so it's a mute point.

One of the most overated things ever.
Now what you really want on those scones is some classical British lemon curd. (Omnom)

I always thought it was the other way around. Because I thought that calling it a "skon" would be an affection too far. I've only heard "skohwn" in any case.

Anyway this is far too confusing. Just give me my Darjeeling, clotted cream, and scones and I'll be happy.

Leave it to scones to remind everyone why the English language sucks ass sometimes.

Ah-ha, one of my few occasional indulgences in sugar. Smiley Had British scones once and liked them. American scones, at least around here, usually have a thick, half soft cookie consistency. Orange or pecan scones are my favorite. Nothing beats a hot cup of black coffee with a pecan scone, or maybe a piece of pecan pie, on a cold, blustery, snow-is-piling-up kind of day.
