FWIW, DKE says Northam won CD7 with 50.6%. Unlikely Brat ends up as bad a candidate as Jackson, but just saying.

That's an interesting fact.

Unless Brat shows us otherwise, I would expect that he will perform at least as well as Cuccinelli did in CD7 (he won 52% of the vote in that district)

Governor races are different from congressional races. I doubt any Democrat will be able to replicate performances like those, even against a bad candidate.

The thing is, Murkowski and Lieberman had general appeal to moderates in the state, so a write-in campaign makes sense. Cantor has none, so the idea he would win as an independent is complete nonsense, and I think it would be hard to pretend otherwise unless you were talented at pretending.
