I'm about ready to do the same thing, but it's still early.

Way too early to celebrate. I still reckon McDaniel wins it by 2-8 points.

Any reason why you think that?

Cochran was at similar margins with 10-15% in, and McDaniel made a huge comeback at around this time. Though when Hinds first started reporting Cochran was at just 75%, but the near 90% margins he's enjoying right now. I think it's gonna come down to the wire again.

If Shannon does lose by the margins he, at this moment, could be losing by, it's a pretty shocking failure.

First full county in in MS: Quitman.

Cochran won it 326-173 this time and only won it 215-129 last time around.

Quitman is a black belt delta county, so it looks like Cochran managed to get the turnout a little higher there while carrying it would roughly the same percentage.

This is about how it was this time during the primary:
Politico now has about 21% in.  Cochran leads 49.6-48.8%.

BTW: I'd be interested to see how the Black Belt counties vote, especially since Mississippi is an open primary state. Smiley

Looking much better for Cochran, I must say I'm surprised. I still think McDaniel will win, but by a very narrow margin as opposed to the 2-4% I thought before

It's over. This is shocking, I must say. Cochran's little ploy worked.

Along the coast, Cochran is winning all three counties. He's up in Jackson and Harrison, but Hancock is much closer (maybe because Taylor isn't running this time).

Amazingly a third of the vote is already in from Colorado.  I don't know how that happened, but it apparently did.  Beauprez has 31% in the GOP Gov primary, Tancredo has 26%, Gessler has 23%.

Jones county could be one.

Still does look like Cochran's campaign managed to get some black vote out for them.

There's still a lot of vote to be counted in the Northeast yet which was mostly McDaniel territory last time, and as Antineutrino said, there's a lot of McDaniel votes to be counted yet. 31% is in now and Cochran's margin is even less now, so it's going to happen. McDaniel will win as everyone has said all along! Wink

There's also a big State House seat to watch in Oklahoma tonight - HD 91 - the GOP primary. Scott Esk, the massive homophobe who wants gays killed is thankfully trailing in the early returns with only 15 votes out of 373 counted so far. I really want to hope that the constituents of this district have at least some heart tonight and reject Esk.
Didn't know about this, but I hope so, too.
Looks like he's going to lose! Cheesy

10% is in and Oklahoma's local, "libertarian" homophobe has a whole 25 votes!!! I bet those are mostly from relatives and close friends of his because I just don't see who else would really vote for this guy.

If Cochran can hold the lead when Jones County comes in, he should be OK.  Feeling pretty good about this right now...

No votes in yet from Jones - worth noting that, at this point, Cochran's lead is less than McDaniel's margin of victory in Jones alone last time.
