Just read the thread about "Reagan Democrats", so I thought I'd start some discussion on how other famous American political groups voted.

How do you think these people voted? Here's what I'm predicting:

Reagan Democrats: 65\35  McCain
NASCAR Dads: 90\10 McCain
Soccer Moms: 55\45 Obama
Wal-Mart voters: 70-75% McCain
Police: 50\49 Obama

Feel free to add another group if you want.

I'd think they are certainly more Republican than that. I saw a poll taken during the election season that showed McCain leading 62-24 among Wal-Mart voters. Granted, it was by Zogby, so take it with a grain of salt. Also, it was taken when Obama and McCain were tied in the polls. But yeah, I'd think they are certainly very Republican.

I have a hard time believing any pollster could accurately determine the voting patterns of a large group like "Wal-Mart voters".

Pretty stupid labels, but whatever....
Reagan Dems are mostly dead.
Guys who both watch NASCAR and have children favor the GOP but not by the ludicrously high margins others have proposed. Maybe about 60-40
Mothers whose children play soccer is a tough group to gauge. Lean Dems due lots of Hispanic women. 55-45
People who shop at Wal-Mart are suburban/rural. Fairly substantially GOP. 57-43
Police are the strongest GOP of all. 62-37
Disclaimer: A lot of people don't vote at all. Didn't vote beats both candidates handily.

I'll do some that you guys added:

Federal\Government workers: 90\10 Obama
US Military: 55\45 McCain ( the commanders\generals would be around 97% Republican)
Teachers: 75\25 Obama
State Workers: 65\35 Obama
Olympic Moms: no idea what makes an Olympic mom different than a regular mom, so I'll say slightly Obama

Others:

Scientists: 95\5 Obama
Lawyers: 70\30 Obama

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a "Walmart voter"? Is this all people who shop at Walmart, those who shop there on a regular basis, or something else?

Scientists: 70/30 Obama (Not all science fields are that democratic leaning)

A new study by the Pew Research Center finds that the GOP is alienating scientists to a startling degree.

Only six percent of America's scientists identify themselves as Republicans; fifty-five percent call themselves Democrats. The ideological discrepancies were similar. Nine percent of scientists said they were "conservative" while 52 percent described themselves as "liberal," and 14 percent "very liberal."

Religion also plays a role. Republicans tend to promote the centrality of religion more often than Democrats, and while 95 percent of the public said they believe in "God" or "a higher power," only 51 percent of scientists claimed either.

I don't think anywhere near 30% of them voted for McCain.

I put Walmart voters at 54%, but IDK about that one.  From what I can see as living in both Florida and Massachusetts, Wal-Marts here are mostly minority used.

I would say that scientists dependant on government funding probably went 99-1 Obama. Those employed in private sector are more likely to vote Republican, but not a majority.

There's no way Obama won the police vote, maybe big urban departments with lot of minority officers like NYPD or LAPD, but when you are talking about American police force, that includes state polices, small-town sheriff's offices, mid-sized PDs... Ever since the national Democratic Party is so closely associated with cultural liberalism, I don't think any Democratic-presidential candidate won the police vote, except Clinton in 1996.

Reagan Democrats: mostly dead, but the few still alive probably voted about 53-47 Obama
NASCAR Dads: 90-10 (given that NASCAR fans are almost all white, predominately Southern, and heavily rural and exurban, it's not a stretch to think they're almost as Republican as blacks are democratic)
Soccer Moms: stupid label, but probably about 55-44 Obama
Walmart Shoppers: somewhere around 60-40
Police: 63-35 McCain
Military: 55-44 McCain
Rappers: 98-2 Obama
Federal Workers: 85-15 Obama
Scientists: 83-16 Obama
Teachers: 70-30 Obama

Oh, and one more:

College Professors: 92-4 Obama (a comparatively high percentage vote Green or Socialist)

I agree with that.

LOL I have no idea about this one, but what makes you think they are so Republican? Remember that alcoholics include many minority groups such as African Americans, and especially Native Americans.

Yes, but numerically, there are much more whites who drink alcohol than minorities. Maybe my numbers were a little overinflated by there are a lot of Southern and Western whites who drink a lot. Maybe a better number would be 67-33% McCain.
