Title: Rubio: Crist should switch parties
Post by: Bleeding heart conservative, HTMLdon on May 04, 2009, 10:39:06 pm
From Politics1:

"Former State House Speaker Marco Rubio -- the likely conservative GOP primary opponent against Governor Charlie Crist in next year's open US Senate race -- seemingly told a newspaper that Crist is so moderate he should switch parties. "If you agree with [US Senators] Susan Collins or Olympia Snowe on some of these issues [like the Obama stimulus package], you might as well become a Democrat," said Rubio to the St. Petersburg Times."

It's a good tactic though.  He's warning Florida republicans that if Crist becomes a senator he will be voting like Snowe and Collins.

BTW I'm all for Rubio winning the primary because I think he would be easier to beat in the general election.

understatement, adjectives and adverbs like "extremely easier to beat" exist for a reason! :)

I have a crazy thought.
Maybe if Crist loses the primary to Rubio (with national Republicans doing nothing to help the governor), it will be event that pushes Snowe into switching.

haha true...
Any idea who is running for the Democrats other than Meek?  I would like to see Wexler run, but I think he said he wasn't interested, right?

They've got State Sen. Dan Gelber and North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorino is a possible fourth candidate. Robert Wexler, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Allen Boyd and Ron Klein have all declined to run.

Sure we'll take him, even if he doesn't run for the senate.

"I'm under no illusions about how difficult this will be. I know that there are people more famous than I who will enter this race.... I believe this is worth doing."

Good. Crist is a joke.

All he has done as governor is ride the successes of Jeb Bush while doing nothing about the issues he addressed during his campaign.

I don't like to spend too much time talking about candidates who won't win the nomination

I don't really dislike Crist. I don't even think he's a RINO. That being said, I'll definitely support Rubio over Crist.

Would you exchange an 80/20 chance of Crist being elected, hypothetically, for a 40/60 chance of Rubio being elected, hypothetically?

Whose saying Rubio only has a 40% chance of winning?

Sorry but, with all due respect, I'm not believing the odds posted by some politicos on the Internets about a race a year and a half away in a swing/lean GOP state.

I'm giving the odds of a candidate going overly conservative in order to primary the semi-moderate establishment candidate that's already been supported by the state party.  We can do 50/50 if you'd like and still answer my question?

I've been fairly fair to Rubio, if you give me credit, as before I used to give him a solid edge against everyone the Democrats could nominate.

Ok and those are still odds made up by someone who does not know the dynamics of the race a year and a half out (including the lack of knowledge of the national climate, mini-scandals, fundraising, etc.)

If it's 50/50, yeah, I'd still go with Rubio but I'm simply making known that I reject assigning odds of victory this earlier especially in a state like Florida.

I'm not as ignorant of this race as you accuse me of being.  Hell, I'm on Rubio's mailing list.

Do I really have to say:  THESE ODDS MAY CHANGE BEFORE ELECTION DAY after every post?  Really?  I think we both know that.

Uh...I don't know if this is a joke...  :P

No, you don't. It's just that you say these are the odds as if they're going to stay that way so I better change who I support if I want to win and that's ridiculous.

Look, the only way Crist could lose is if he were caught with a dead girl or a live boy... and uh... I guess we can't count Rubio out then....

Uh, not if you look at his polling numbers in the GOP primary, specifically the people that say they'd never vote for him, since Rubio still has low name rec

"Free Tibet -- I'll take it! Hello China, I got something you want, but its gonna cost ya... thats right, ALL THE TEA!"

If your handing out senators and governors I'll take Crist, Rell, and Huntsman, and you can throw in the 2 Mainers. You get Murtha...
