Title: 1789 Election:No Washington (Look at first page first please for rules)
Post by: Lahbas on July 31, 2009, 02:01:08 PM
This is to replace the flawed election I had set up last time. In this scenario, George Washington has refused to become President of the United States. Therefore, you, as the electors, must choose out of a bunch of canidates who will attain that office.

There are rules as outlined in the consitution. You, as the electors, have two votes for President. However, they must be of different states. Therefore, you cannot, for example, vote for Hancock and Adams.

Also, no one, including me, will know the results of the election until Tuesday. This is to represent the poor communication in those days between all the electors. I'll be happy when we can see who has won.

Also, state in a reply if you are a Federalist or Anti-Federalist elector. At least that shouldn't be secret, and should give some sort of inkling toward the ending result.

I wonder if we're supposed to say who we voted for, in order to keep secrecy?

I think you have identified Jay incorrectly.

That's what I was thinking. He lived in New York his entire life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Jay

I would prefer that you not mention who you voted for, in order to maintain secrecy on the choice of you, as electors. However, you should state if you are a Federalist or an Anti-Federalist. I'll add that to the rules.

Well, it was sent to the bottom, but we now have our results. John Adams will be the first President of the United States, with George Clinton as his Vice President.

Now, after the election, I can say I voted for Clinton and Rutledge

I voted for Adams and Telfair. I didn't really know much about Telfair when I voted for him. I really couldn't decided on a 2nd choice, and just thought"Well, he is from Georgia!" :)

Great idea, though. Maybe you could do a second one, in another election, or have Adams up in 1792! :)
