Title: You are John Kerry
Post by: MASHED POTATOES. VOTE! on August 02, 2009, 01:09:49 PM
You are John Kerry, who just became 2004 Democratic Party presumptive presidential nominee

You have to choose your-running-mate

Note: You cannot chose Edwards

Who's you choice?

Zell Miller

No

I would NOT choose Warner, Richardson, Gephardt, or anyone who wasn't exciting enough. I would probably go with John Breaux.

Oh yes...

If Kerry so badly wanted to lose, he really should choose Miller. 5% of votes for Nader...

Either John Breaux or Mark Warner.

Probably Warner or Gephart. Bayh would also be a distinct possibility. Ideally, it would be a democrat that sticks to his guns relatively well and have been elected in a very conservative area. Brad Henry or Dave Fruedenthal look like good choices, but these oil-field democrats aren't very ambitious.

He should have chosen someone like Dean (but not Dean) who would stay in the news and generate some kind of energy.

But he should also have appointed Mark Warner as potential emperor for life upon his winning.  That would almost surely have guaranteed a floor of 96% of the vote.  MARK WARNER

Oh yeah I forgot about dear old Brad. But I already picked him in the "You are Barack Obama" scenario to deflect claims that Obama would be a gun grabbing envirofacist socialist.

John McCain.

He second choice was Bob Graham

Bob Graham
Dick Gephardt
Howard Dean.

John Edwards would of made a better candidate at the top of the tickey, he wasn't an effective communicator at the vice presidency level.

Mark Warner because he puts Virginia in play in 2004.  Putting Virginia in play would have forced Bush to defend more turf, making other battlegrounds like Ohio, New Mexico, Iowa, Nevada, and Florida a little more vulnerable and harder to defend.  John Edwards never really put North Carolina in play.

Bob Graham of Florida would have been an excellent pick too.

McCain if he had accepted. Howard Dean would also be great.

McCain would have been great on paper, but wouldn't have made GOP voters to switch.

Nunn and Lugar would have had to be considered because of the mood at that time.

But, Strickland not being enough known at the time, I would have picked Evan Bayh.

Remember Kerry lost because of big GOP GOTV and many referendums, questions, polls on social and values issues.
So, Bayh would have been meant to cut all these operations.

Kerry McCain holds NM and IA, gains NH as in RL and picks up AZ.

Not sure for AZ, nor for IA.

While not being bad in Iowa, Florida, Missouri, Bayh may have won Ohio and that's the key.

Evan Bayh. He's fairly young, hails from a conservative state, and is a centrist, which could have made the difference.

McCain would help with independents in 2004

Right but he may have been too much for some Dems.
And he may have said some "gaffes"... And on foreign policy matters, Bush campaign would have found many contrarian points between the 2.
So, I'm not so sure.

A risky choice. And, as you've said that I AM John Kerry, I CHOOSE Evan Bayh and YOU are fired from my staff ! ;)

Bob Graham. If Kerry could carry Florida, and still carry Wisconsin, he wins.
