But not being remembered because your civilization was wiped out does. I really don't think much of a direct link exists between the rights he granted and the rights we have now. Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: True Federalist (진정한 연방 주의자) on August 09, 2009, 12:04:41 AM Years are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Let me start by picking the most important year of each of the past twenty-five centuries.
20th - 1917 19th - 1848 18th - 1763 17th - 1648 16th - 1517 15th - 1453 14th - 1347 13th - 1291 12th - 1171 11th - 1066 10th - 919 9th - 843 8th - 732 7th - 622 6th - 534 5th - 406 4th - 330 3rd - 212 2nd - 132 1st - 30 1st BC - 49 BC 2nd BC - 146 BC 3rd BC - 221 BC 4th BC - 336 BC 5th BC - 480 BC Group this into blocks of five centuries: 16th to 20th - 1648 11th to 15th - 1347 6th to 10th - 732 1st to 5th - 330 5th to 1st BC - 221 BC And the winner is: 221 BC: Unification of the disparate peoples of China under the Qin State to forge one nation out of many. 20th - 1929 19th - 1815 18th - 1776 17th - 1648 16th - 1517 All time - 1929 Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: JSojourner on August 09, 2009, 09:59:12 AM I'm not sure if it was 33 A.D. or not, but I would say the year Jesus Christ was crucified and risen from the dead.
Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: Stranger in a strange land on August 09, 2009, 01:47:42 PM There's not such thing as most important single year. Agreed. Also, I have difficulty deciding whether the American, French, or Russian Revolution was most important. It's further complicated by the fact that the Russian Revolution almost certianly wouldn't have occurred without the French, and the French probably wouldn't have occurred without the American. Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: k-onmmunist on August 10, 2009, 05:41:25 PM Out of interest, why? Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: Associate Justice PiT on August 11, 2009, 03:14:54 AM Out of interest, why? It is the year Nietzsche was born. I was thinking about putting another Nietzsche-related year, but I couldn't decide between 1882, 1885, & 1886, so I just went with the year of his birth. Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: Хahar 🤔 on August 11, 2009, 11:34:45 AM I find it hard to imagine that Nietzsche is so much more important than anyone else that his birth alone makes the most important year.
Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: Vepres on August 11, 2009, 12:57:13 PM 6,499,997,991 B.C. give or take a few hundred million years.
This was when the Earth was formed, without which none of us would exist. Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: Filuwaúrdjan on August 11, 2009, 04:03:13 PM I don't think you can really narrow things down in this way. So let's get all parochial; 1708, the year that Abraham Darby I moved to Coalbrookdale and changed the iron industry (and ultimately everything else) forever. I spent much of my childhood near Coalbrookedale.
Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: dead0man on August 12, 2009, 05:09:00 AM I say 1991 is the most important year in history. :P My answer is 1788 (or 1791). Title: Re: Most important year in history. Post by: Psychic Octopus on August 12, 2009, 09:59:08 PM 480 BC was the year Themistocles truly saved the West. Without his victory at Salamis... I shudder to think of the consequences. The ideas we take for granted would be utterly destroyed, or would have taken a much different form.
