Title: No Thermidor!
Post by: MASHED POTATOES. VOTE! on November 07, 2009, 07:27:38 PM
Let's assume that plot to out Robespierre and his allies from power failed, and he stayed at the top.

How would the history looks? I read a number of times Robespierre actually wanted to end terror by time of his departure and guillotining, but it can be a speculation/.

could have sworn it was him anouncing a new list of names to be victom of the Terror that sent him to the guillotin.

Is entirely eliminating Thermidor possible?

Robespierre didn't have the sort of base that would allow him to continue for long.

European coalized armies would have ousted him before 1800. People welcome the return of monarchy and "stability". But frther conflicts would reappear during the first half of thecentury, since contrary to English Kings, Bourbons are unable to reign without governing.

It was indeed.  Robespierre would not have lasted to the end of 1795; he had made too many mistakes, and made too many enemies.

Further executions but no White Terror but the system would collapse very quickly due to the outside of powers. Either a very early 18 Brumaire occurs by someone who is probably not Napoleon or Austro-British Occupation with a Bourbon Restoration (and perhaps more importantly, an aristocratic-landlord one as well) and chaos in the countryside to reign for years to come. What happens to France's empire in the Atlantic is another consideration - it probably gets divulged mainly to the British. But who and how? Does Haiti still become an independent state?

I agree with this.
