I hate that book with a passion, it and all of its ilk. Its basically History as emotionalist-sentimental porn.

I bought the book, but still didn't start to read it. Actually, it's the case of 90% of my books. :P

I don't particularly like Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States"

It is too polemical. I would much rather read a factual book that I as a reader can interpret for myself.

Read it in mid-2004? It's a good book from a left/liberal PoV. Michael Parenti is better however.

Might get it eventually. Knee-deep in Atlas Shrugged right now.

^^^^^^^^

Agreed. It's a 101 on how not to comment on history.

And Jason Bourne.

I didn't really enjoy it. It's as if Zinn literally looked at every historical event in our nation's history and said "what if the other guys were the good guys?" It's as if he simply assumes that if WASPS did something it was automatically bad. He was a gifted writer and a pretty smart dude, but his premiss is misguided. In some circumstances he's right, but in most he just comes off as totally ideologically driven.

Also, for some good laughs check out the cartoon edition. That is if you want to see a snarling Teddy Roosevelt killing Cubans.

Regardless, it is far more accurate than the more mainstream narrative.

Not really. It just excludes different things.
