Quote Martinez won the support of 46.65 percent of delegates at the Republican convention. Weh finished second with 26.32 percent, followed by Janice Arnold-Jones at 13.16 percent and Doug Turner at 9.23 percent. Domenici finished last, with 4.61 percent of the vote. (...) If they want to a place on the ballot, candidates who don’t pass the organizational test of winning the support of 20 percent of convention delegates are required by law to collect twice as many signatures as those who do win 20 percent. No candidate who failed to win 20 percent at the convention has ever come back to win the primary. Regardless, Arnold-Jones, Turner and Domenici all say they plan to stay in the race, which will require about 1,200 more signatures from each. Wow, guess being the scion of a political family isn't working out too well this year. I actually don't know. I do know that Martinez is pretty conservative. A Martinez-Denish race would be interesting considering both candidates are from the South. They're all down-the-line conservatives. Incidentally, researching the candidates' positions (which turned out not to be hard, because they all say the exact same thing), I came across this amusing bit from Janice Arnold-Jones' website (http://www.janiceforgovernor.com/Issues/HealthCare/tabid/93/Default.aspx): Quote I believe that, for adults, your state of health is your responsibility. If you chose to abuse your health by smoking, using drugs, engaging in excessively risky behavior such as extreme skate boarding, car surfing, or other inherently dangerous pursuits, it is the individual’s responsibility to plan accordingly. I wasn't aware "car surfing" was that big a deal in New Mexico. |
