Title: The Timeline Directory Post by: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey on April 10, 2010, 03:52:47 PM I've noticed that many TLs get bumped down to the Alternate Election Universes. Additionally, finished TLs get bumped down and forgotten by newbies because eventually people stop commenting on them, considering that they're finished. Therefore, I propose a TL directory (this thread). So if you think that a certain TL should be posted up here, post a comment on this thread with a link, and I'll put the TL in this first post! :)
Timelines (more can be added if you give a comment saying what TL you want posted here): # 1892 and beyond (https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=61418.0) - HappyWarrior 1968: Kennedy Lives! Title: Re: We Should Create A TL Directory Post by: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey on April 10, 2010, 04:05:29 PM Thanks for the compliment! :)
The thing is, I don't want to say to anybody that their TL can't be listed. So just list them all! The problem is (you can see it with Fantasy Elections and Universes) threads get so cluttered that they're nearly impossible to navigate. Title: Re: We Should Create A TL Directory Post by: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey on April 10, 2010, 04:17:39 PM I'm not going to list them all, but if there's a timeline you want to be in this directory, then by all means, post it here! Point taken. How about this? If people want certain timelines posted, post a comment on this thread with a link, and I'll edit my first post to include them. This way, people who want to find somebody's TL quickly need look no further than my first comment. Title: Re: The TL Directory Post by: Psychic Octopus on April 10, 2010, 04:37:50 PM I like this idea; However I think it should be better organized into one, compact thread ran by the moderator, once we find all of the TLs.

Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: Хahar 🤔 on April 15, 2010, 12:14:15 AM There's a confusing mix of abandoned, completed and ongoing TLs here. They need to be sorted.
My advice would be to have two lists: one of completed TLs and one of ongoing TLs. The second list would be sorted by most recent update; TLs would be taken off the list after two months without an update. This provision would keep it from getting cluttered and help provide an incentive for certian people to update so their TL doesn't get taken off the list. You raise a good point, but it would be too much work for me to check up on each TL to see if each TL has been updated within 2 months or not. Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: justW353 on April 15, 2010, 03:38:19 PM Assuming it's still alphabetical, it's a good idea.
You could two lists: Ongoing Inactive I don't like the idea of Complete or Incomplete, because who's to judge when a TL ends? It just kind of sinks into obscurity over time. If you wanted to do this, it would have to be in a new, separate topic. I would rename this topic "Timeline Directory Requests/Update Requests". It would be used to update the status of TLs and include new ones. Then, have a new, locked thread called "The Timeline Directory" with only two posts, each containing the two separate lists. Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey on April 15, 2010, 03:47:13 PM If you guys want to create a separate thread that divides TLs into ongoing TLs and inactive TLs, go for it! :) I'm kinda lazy to look at each TL every day and figure out when it should be declared inactive or active. :P

Also, I had JFK die in November for no apparent reason. :P Yeah, that's been my main problem in writing TLs. I have trouble creating the butterflies. In one TL, I had no Great Depression, a drastically different view on Southeast Asia (which was capitalist), and still the world was pretty much the same. I was totally clueless as to how to reflect the butterflies. I hope to change that with my most recent TL, but I don't know. Anyways, besides JFK getting killed for no reason, I thought it was a lot better than other ones I've seen. Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: ej2mm15 on April 18, 2010, 09:18:08 PM Psh, it was very good. If you want to read horror, read my first one. :P Could I get a link, NiK? My greatest failure (https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=91972.0) Why do you think it's bad? I like it. I think it was flawed in structure; I barely created butterflies, and I think I could have been more creative. If I wrote it now, I would have had the Cuban Missile Crisis butterflied out, and had the Bay of Pigs be a success. Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: Хahar 🤔 on April 18, 2010, 09:20:34 PM There's no need for an inactive list, IMO. Perhaps, but then we wouldn't have excellent TLs such as Marokai's and Lief's in the directory. Well, yeah, but it can't do everything. Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: justW353 on April 18, 2010, 09:24:25 PM What are "butterflies"? The butterfly effect. The theory (well, it's proven science, but...) that all actions regardless of size can affect the future substantially. For example, if Bobby Kennedy hadn't been assassinated, Barack Obama would never be President. Bobby Kennedy would have been elected President in 1968, meaning Gerald Ford would never be President, meaning Jimmy Carter would never be President, meaning Ronald Reagan would never be President, meaning George H.W. Bush would never be President, meaning George W. Bush would never be President, meaning Barack Obama would never be President. It's a very interesting and complex concept. The ripples are usually far more subtle than that. Title: Re: The Timeline Directory Post by: ej2mm15 on April 18, 2010, 09:30:34 PM What are "butterflies"? The butterfly effect. The Presidential list would have probably looked differently, but since Obama was born before RFK's assasination, it wouldn't have affected his existence and if his carrer went the correct way, he could have still ended up in the Oval Office.
