Title: Is there any circumstance where you would you vote for Palin?
Post by: I spent the winter writing songs about getting better on November 26, 2010, 01:02:48 AM
The only scenario I can see is a Sarah Palin vs. Ralph Nader election with absolutely no one else on the ballot. Since that obviously will not happen I voted no.

No.

She is not possessed of the capacity to govern Alaska for a full term, let alone the world's only remaining super power.

if she develops a nuanced and thoughtful approach to foreign policy, then yes, I would consider it.

Only if the nominated Democrat proves to be more idiotic and bizarre than her (and that is hard to achieve).

The problem with this question is that there are too many on this blog who do not hold any independent thought.  You just had "never forget that a republican freed the slaves" claim in another post that George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush were American icons.  I'm embarrased to share a party with anyone who would think such a thing.

While I'm very conservative, I  would have voted for Manchin over Raese, Knowles over Murkowski, and Cuomo over palandino if I had the choice in those states in those races.

Quite frankly, I think 87% of Democrats would vote for John Edwards over Sarah Palin given the lack of independent thought in the party today.

Wonderful. So take your ability to vote for very conservadems or mainstream dems or liberal republicans as proof of your reasonability and try to argue that this is why people should vote for Palin? The appropriate analogy would be if you were willing to vote for John Edwards "under any circumstances." Even Edwards, even though he was a bastard in his personal life, would at least be in charge of his own Presidency, which Palin would not. I mean, there's lots of Republicans I would vote for under the right circumstances as well, like Charlie Crist, Murkowski, Chris Christie. That I would never vote for Palin doesn't prove anything. Put a serious individual up to the question and then see what people respond with.

Beet,

How is Andrew Cuomo a "conservative Democrat" and Palandino a "liberal/moderate Republican?"

I vote on more than just issues.  Paladino may be closer to me on the issues but I would have thought Cuomo would make a better Governor than him.  I would say the same about Corzine v. Christie and Coakley v. Brown, and Brown v. Whitman even though Whitman, Christie, and Brown are closer to me on the issues.  There are factors that come into play.

Now, I'm still baffled as to how Democrats can justify voting for a criminal like Alexi.

What has she said that's coherent regarding foreign policy?  Do you think by now she's googled the Bush Doctrine to see what that means?

If her only opponent was Joe Stalin or Adolf Hitler I would refrain from voting, flee the country and seek asylum in some European country - that's if I was an american anyway.

In other words: There's no conceivable scenario in which I, if I was an american, would vote for that nutcase.

Yes. I absolutely don't want her to be President, but I think she'd be just a smidge better that Obama. I may entertain the idea of voting for the Libertarian, but that would go out the window if Barr is nominated again.

You don't have to share the party with me.  Feel free to leave it at any time.

Oh, and make sure the door doesn't hit you on the way out.

I was thrilled with the Murkowski win by the way.

I understand why a libertarian purist might not vote for Barr, but what's the problem with him from the perspective of a Murkowski supporter?

If Obama were proven to have committed a serious crime yet renominated by the democratic party. It would have to be pretty bad. Or, if the democrats nominated a conspiracy theorist wacko like Dennis Kucinich. Even then I may do a write in, or stay home. I voted Yes only out of pure possibility but it would have to be a wild and strange scenario. I would also hope that she had a competent VP nominee (unlike herself in 2008). I don't believe this women is qualified and as a Hillary support I feel the sting of her presence on the national scene.

"She lacks the "intellectual curiosity" to be president. I don't believe she enjoyed governing Alaska."
-Lisa Murkowski on her refusal to endorse the idea of a Palin run for president. I love Lisa !
