Title: Waiting lists of future survivors / Options on new ones / Available or not
Post by: big bad fab on January 18, 2011, 12:05:29 PM
- Here you can take out an option on an idea of survivor, so that other forumers don't "steal" the idea (;)).

Options are valid for 2 months: during these 2 months, only the forumer who has taken out the option is authorized to manage the corresponding survivor.
If not used, the option can be renewed only after 1 more month.

- What is more, for off-topic survivors, there is a waiting list, where you must put down your idea of off-topic survivor.

Only the first 5 of the list can be run at the same time and one forumer can't manage more than 2 off-topic survivors at any given time.

- If the idea of a survivor is stolen, it will be deleted.
If an off-topic survivor is started too early, I'll lock it.

Post in this thread your requests for off-topic survivors and your options for future on-topic survivors.

Done.

But if you want to start immediately, it's OK, as hughento and Edu haven't answered to my PM asking them if they launch their own ideas.

Hughento, Edu, if you have changed your mind, just shout ;).

Oops, i just noticed i have a bunch of unread PM's, not only from you fab, sorry.

Please put me in the queue for an "Instruments of the Orchestra" survivor. Does this sound interesting to anyone?

I'd probably be in.

If you want to start it now, it's OK, as Mr X's Stephen King seems indeed not to have a great success.

I have got an idea for 2 new Survivors:

Monarchs of England 1066 to present

and an off-topic Survivor:

Football World Cup Winners

On the 5th of March, when Edu's option will fall, or before if homely's or my off-topic survivors are finished, you'll be able to start your own, Hans.

(I'm not sure to be in, as I wouldn't know how to vote ;). It would be on "bad" criterions, I think, I mean criterions not really linked to football value)

I've got other ideas for the on-topic survivors: you'll see, guys ;D.

As for the off-topic ones, would you take part in a Futurama characters survivor ?
(a large one, with all small characters, including Nixon's head, of course ;D)

If hughento doesn't start his off-topic survivor, you'll be able to start your Football Cup winners, Hans.

I've just PMed him: let's wait a bit.

No interest in a Futurama characters survivor ?

I'll stzart on the weekend with the FWC-Winners Survivor, as long hughento don't start his survior.

To your question: I'm not the biggest Futurama-fan, but I know enough to vote in a survivor about it.

Would there be any interest in a survivor on dog breeds? It would use the list of breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club, which would be divided into two groups. If there is sufficient interest, I'll ask for it to be added to the waiting list.

Title: Re: Waiting lists of future survivors / Options on new ones / Available ones

No interest from me: I know absolutely nothing and I don't intend to learn about them ;).

I remember that there are dog breeders or sons of dog breeders who pushed laws on the subject in Atlasia.
Badger ? Maybe some others. Maybe you can search threads on the subject in Atlasia boards (especially Mideast Assembly) and PM them. Just an idea... ;)

As my Futurama characters doesn't seem to be very popular,
as, anyway, the list is a bit hard to set for the moment, given the fact I'm pretty busy,

I delete my option on it, but will start later today 2 new off-topic survivors (hughento and Obamanation are silent on their own):

Modern Latin alphabet
and
Arabic digits

I must be becoming mad, but I vaguely recall something too, but I don't find anything, neither in the "database" of this sub-board, nor by searching the forum.

Was it a failed attempt ? or was it only an idea ? or a thread deleted by an angry mod before the survivormaniacs were "deported" here ?

Anyway, as there is no mark for more than one year, it's allowed to (re)start them ;).

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now, I'm doing it for real, seriously....
::)

This is where you see how deep is your own decline through the years...
What is fun is that the idea has popped again in my mind 2 days ago :P.
I'm really an "automatic" genius ! ;D (no, don't try to understand...)

Fortunately, I've got some more serious ideas when these 2 are over.
(in fact, I was a bit disappointed not to succeed in setting easily a fine list of Ukrainian heads of state and/or government, with all the regimes, so I turned to this low idea...)

(A pity for you 90th Congress one, but even Kal's Stalin inner circle (the finest idea ever :P) hadn't a big turnout and I still hesitate on my Chinese Politburo idea)

Great !

I was just thinking about one on centuries... of course being a bit skeptical on centuries BC :P

How interested would anyone be if I did one on 70-80s bands?  Of course, the band list would be completely at my mercy, so you'd have to endure my great taste in music.

That could be fun, though the Europeans may not have a great knowledge in the bands you'd pick.
I'm interested but not sure until I'll see the list.

Well.. off the top of my head;

Pink Floyd, Beatles, Yes, The Who, CSNY, Genesis, Boston, Cream (Eric Clapton), Deep Purple, The Doors, Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Rush, among others.

If I included musicians ;

Elton John,  Billy Joel, Peter Gabriel, Jim Croce (Might not know him), Clapton, Marley, Dylan.

I have others, just listing some of the one's I can think of immediately.

At least, you'll have Edu.
As for me... well... I have weird tastes: between Dvorak and Depeche Mode, there is almost nothing :P
So, I'm not sure at all to cast a ballot.
But I'm sure you'll have many voters, especially if you PM some US and UK firends on this forum.

Can you calm down a bit ? :P

You've got many ideas but it seems not every one of them is well followed.

With this survivor, you won't have a big turnout, probably (I won't be able to vote in it, for the same reasons as homely).
Either by party or as only one survivor, it'd be very difficult to know enough about every MP.

And if others of your survivors have a turnout too low for your taste, just let us know by saying a survivor is dropped (taht's not an obligation, but this info could be useful).

Hi. I've only started looking around this board since the past few days, but is there any interest for a dominant parties survivor?

If I did this, it would be quite ambitious and would play very differently from most survivors, so I would like to know if there are any rules on the conduct of them.

Nope, you are free to create your own game rules, provided there is a survivor in the end ;D.
Just remember that turnout is varying and sometimes low, especially in holiday and exams periods ;).

"Dominant parties" all over the world ? The subject hasn't been used, so it's up to you.

That's gonna be a huge one, for sure. ;)

As for Doctor Who, there is a consistent clique of fans among the forum (Archangel aka "the Doctor" ;D, PiT, Al, Afleitch, Johnny and some other guys), I think that'll be enough to make the survivor workable. Of course even non-fans are invited if they have some basic knowledge of the series. ;)

There are a couple of general unwritten rules. First, don't fix the results, because that will piss everybody off. Secondly, rounds should last at least 24 hours so that people who can only log in once per day can still participate. On a survivor of the scale you are suggesting, I recommend even longer rounds so that people have time to do some research.

Other than that, the manager of the survivor has free rein to set his own rules.

I have decided to drop my Family Guy Characters survivor as well due to a lack of interest. I am not going to lock it, though, just because someone else might want to participate and revive it at a later date.

Also, after I am done with my Israeli Districts survivor, can I please do two more?:

-Countries of the former Soviet Union Survivor
-Countries of the former Yugoslavia Survivor

I don't think that either of these survivors has been done yet.

You can do both of them. Thanks God, they are "on-topic".

But, please, don't eliminate too many names at once: they are short survivors, so eliminate one by one.
It's more suspenseful, more pleasant and it may avoid ties more easily ;).

I'd like to restart this (https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=136481.0) survivor at some point.  I'd imagine it's off-topic so let me know when I can do it.  I'd like to change the rules a little bit as to pit a NT book V an OT book in the end, if that's supported.

I intended to do it too, but you're welcome.
And since Darth Yelnoc is OK and Rochambeau's off-topic survivors are suspended, all is fine.

Your idea of new rules is excellent.

People of survivorland !

Rochambeau is now banned... So, all his survivors are now free for anyone who wants to keep them working or to restart them from the beginning !

Just let me know that you want to relaunch or restart them before doing it ;).

Thanks a lot.

(sorry for not updating all the lists of survivors opened, available or not, etc. But it's late and I'm fed up with dealing with all these lil' problems... :P)

The only one that he has that I'd even care to take over is the Middle Eastern Countries survivor.

No one thought about doing 'hurt and heal' lists?

Every option starts off with 10 points. You can vote to 'hurt' one (minus 1 point) and to 'heal' one (plus 1) each road (you can also do two per group etc)

So if Smith is hurt, hurt, heal, heal, heal for example he goes from 10 to 9 to 10 to 11. If they get to 0 when the round is over or are the lowest, they can be eliminated.

Libertas launched one on European languages with the same principle, except that there weren't rounds and languages were ousted only when reaching zero point.

I voted, then was bored, then voted again just to end it as quickly as possible :P

With rounds with time limits, it would work better !

afleitch, you can start your survivor as soon as you want ;).

Both are available.

But be sure you want to start such a big survivor with all the Congress :P.

And maybe you can finish your US cities one before ;).

Taking an option for a "World leaders who lost their job in 2011" survivor (there are quite a lot of them). I'll start it in early January.

I should update the lists... :P
The turnout is low that I'm lazy.
But your option is of course valid, Antonio.

Even though, technically, Zapatero would have lost his job anyways. ;)

I would vote, as I'm sure several others would.  It's not an off-topic, so BBF shouldn't care when you start it.

Has there ever been a "Byzantine Emperors from Theodosius I* to Constantine XII**"?

*: Or you could pick Constantine I, or Arcadius, or Justinian. Depending on where you dran the line.

**: Or Constantine XI, if you don't want to include any of the Lascarids.

Only the Governors thread sounds interesting.
We are very few regular survivor players left (and the moderator has actually left the board because it is considered dead), so you should take that into account before you start anything up.

Yes, its still open. I just meant that it is difficult to get people to play survivors.

Yeah, I think you need 5 regular voters (incl. yourself) to keep it interesting, so if you dont get that during the first three rounds it might be better to stop.
Try the governors, thats your best bet IMO.

Its your call, but normally it should last at least 24 hours to allow everybody a chance to vote, but if all regular voters have voted you can close it a little early.
