I prefectly understand this viewpoint, but I must acknowledge I can't help comparing the 1880s-1890s-1900s for social democracy with the stupid 1990s-2000s for Greens or "social liberal" centre-right...and when I compare, I automatically choose ;). In fact, when I think about political parties, I think about established ones, that's true, but very long established ones. See, I don't even whine when the UMP was ousted ;D: it didn't deserve to last long. I also "like" parties with complicated histories and/or many wings, like the FN (yes, it was a bit early to oust it, though I HATE its current leader) or even the D66. I think that what I dislike most is... "modernity" ;D and many Greens and "progressive" centre and right parties are "modern" :P. What I see coming doesn't please me and, whatever I can say, I'm still not accustomed to lose bad in survivors ;). That may be another big reason :D. I've pretty much been on the opposite side of basically every one that voted in this survivor for months, my votes usually don't influence the result at all since nobody votes the parties i want out. Maybe i had a more recent success but the last tie i remember my vote having any influence in the results was when i managed to vote for the UMP and eliminate it, something that happened almost exactly 1 month ago, since then my votes have been doomed to failure day after day. Now i finally have a good round with he LibDems eliminated, but i usually voted to have the Tories out before the LibDems so the victory wasn't complete (And frankly the LibDems were eliminated thanks to the 2 guys that gave 9 votes to it, and not because of me) According to my calculations if the same people that voted last round votes in this one then the UK Conservative Party would be out, because the combined votes of Hans, Ethelbert, Nhoj and myself would have been greater than the votes of the rest of the users combined, so there was close to a 100%chance of the Conservatives going out. But suddenly comes a Promotion vote that as far as i know wasn't advertised where there is a pretty good chance that the Tories will be promoted leaving everyone who voted for the Conservatives last round hanging in the wind. I know your mistake was in good faith, I'm not questioning that at all, but it was your mistake, not ours, and the explanation that it all should be Symmetric is not really enough for me. Been waiting months with wasted votes and when i finally get my votes to count, then something else screws me. I think i have a right to be a bit annoyed. Anyway, if the Tories aren't promoted this round and after next round they are still here I'll keep on playing like always (yep, wasting my votes even ;D), but if the Tories are promoted i think I'll stop voting in this survivor. Again, i think this was an honest mistake and of course there is always the chance that the Tories aren't promoted and CDU or some other will. In fact, if need be, with great pains i would even vote to promote CDU just so the Conservas aren't promoted. To calcualte the "number of votes in previous round, I've made the sum of number of votes/total votes on the round*number of voters, so that rounds with the lot of votes don't get overrepresented.
The results were 6.18 for ÖVP, 5.3 for VVD and 3.86 for KD. Well yeah, i caused it in the sense that i voted to eliminate the SPD of Germany without making calculations and the SPS was eliminated, it's not like i voted to oust it. Well, you are entitled to your opinion of course, i don't think that the parties i mentioned are crap, but to each his own. This isn't a Major European parties survivor, if you wanted that you should have just organized a small survivor of 30 or so parties instead of this massive one that consists of more than 100. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE that you included a lot of other parties that aren't so major and i have enjoyed the survivor thus far, but i just thought it would be interesting to keep lesser known parties instead of the same parties that appear in several other survivors like the SPD of Germany that won in the socialist international parties survivor for instance. We also had several survivors where we had to choose between parties of a country, i know there were French and German parties survivors (the German one was one by...surprise... the SPD again :P) and the more recent Spanish parties. I don't remember if we had a survivor of UK parties but we sure as hell had several of their prime ministers and party leaders. So yes, i find it a bit boring that these parties appear in final rounds of survivors again. Anyway, i don't think people (including myself) that voted for the conservatives and the SPD and the LibDems, etc are "assholes", but we probably just have a different opinion on how the survivor should flow. For instance Hans likes the Green parties and so he votes to protect them, maybe they aren't old relics with a lot of history but he likes them and it's just another way of approaching voting in survivors, after all as Fab usually points out different people have different priorities in the game. And I'm going to repeat this once more just in case. I LIKE the survivor, i consider Antonio a good mate and I'm not really complaining about it (i don't particularly care that much if there are too many Scandinavian parties or not, i mean sure some variety would be nicer but i don't have huge problems with it) but i thought i should respond to Antonio's post, and it's not because of the "asshole" part of the post since i know he uses that in jest (At least i hope he does :P) I still have weeks of suffering though since my crusade is still far from over and i expect some agonizing days for my votes. Most of them are fairly old and have rich history, although especially Alliance parties in Sweden are not very distinctive anymore. The reason for Scandinavian over presentation stem from original choices of Antonio. For example, Norwegian Venstre is really small party. For example Finnish KD or Dutch CU are much more living parties. Personally I think there is many interesting Italian and French parties that were not originally as alternatives. Anyhow this is interesting survivor. The parties you mentioned are all around 4% today in their respective countries, but Venstre is the only one which got over 5% at some point (5.9% in the 2005 election). My criterion might be a bit arbitrary, but there was no other way to select parties for someone who hasn't an extremely approfondite knowledge of each of the 20 countries concerned. ;) Quote since i know he uses that in jest (At least i hope he does ) Would I really spend so much time organizing all this if it were just for a bunch of assholes ? ;D And anyway yes, I understand your "vision" of this survivor and why you don't want the SPD or the Tories to win this (I don't either, FTR).
