Title: Opinion of the previous poster's PM score
Post by: Bo on July 30, 2011, 03:04:10 PM
Mine moved almost five points to the left socially from the last time that I took the PM test.

Left economically, center-left socially. Mainstream Democrat.

Left economically, center-left socially. Mainstream Democrat.

Actually, most mainstream Democrats aren't pro-life, like I am. I see how you could have gotten that impression though. ;)

As for yours, it would be better if your social and economic scores were flipped around. Still, independent is probably an appropriate label for you.

Economic needs to be 10 points lower, social needs to be 5 points lower.

Eminently acceptable.

Seems to about right from his posts so far. I would have guess the social score to be a little lower but I'm not terribly suprised considering I find him to be one of the more likeable liberals on this forum. I'd prefer both scores to be about 10 points higher if I wanted agreement for voting purposes and such.

Title: Re: Opinion of the previous poster's PM score
Post by: courts on July 30, 2011, 08:06:58 PM
Not great, but it's not terribly accurate either. I would probably subtract about 2-3 points from each score TBH, or change the test questions substantially.

Title: Re: Opinion of the previous poster's PM score
Post by: Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian. on July 30, 2011, 08:09:49 PM
Multiply each score by negative one and I'm sold.

[@ TJ: Drugs and very conflicted feelings about abortion. The social score would probably be considerably lower if not for those two issues.]

Post by: TJ in Oregon on July 30, 2011, 09:29:36 PM
I just took the PM test again without critical checks and got:

E+2.97  S+5.57

As you can see it makes a pretty decent difference to the S+7.30 that Mint seems to think is too high. I guess I feel more strongly about the same set of issues I am the most conservative on. I also think the economic change is more about whether I clicked "Agree" or "Usually Agree" or some minor differences that will happen every time I take the test.

SKIP

Yelnoc should be up next.

I already regret posting in this thread, but I largely find it unoffensive. When thinking of what kinds of answers are necessary to reach such a score, I feel like it's realistic...if even a bit shy or tamed.

I'm actually surprised the economic score is so far to the right. I'm also not so far left socially (except on those special select LGBT issues that I will not give in on) but that is because of my upbringing and I find the sort of passion that often comes with social scores very far to the left sort of inspiring.

I wouldn't call myself socially conservative.  I don't reject change automatically at all, but I am a bit more authoritarian than the mainstream.  It was probably my abortion answer that drove up, though I did not prioritize the issue.  Basically, I don't believe the lowest common denominator man (or woman) is competent enough to behave in a way that doesn't harm society in someway, and thus needs a few nudges from the state in the right direction.  Like seat belt laws, taxes on fatty foods and drugs, etc.

I just retested myself.  My politics have changed pretty much across the board over the last few months.  Considering the fact that I've abandoned much of the views I inherited from my parents.  But, you're right.  I think I've made it clear here for quite a while that I don't really find either party very attractive.

Sidenote: Are you not supposed to hit the 'This is a critical issue to me.' box or something? I see very few people with +/- 8 for social or econ. I interpreted critical as strongly supportive or strongly opposed so I ended up checking the box for most all the issues though there were a few I just couldn't feel critical or strongly for/against so I went with neutral (such as the government funding museums/theaters if they couldn't financially survive on their own through fares and fees. I was like "meh... depends on the institution" and went with neutral)

edit: wording

Economic score is fine.  I have to wonder how many boxes one has to check as a "critical issues" to get a score over +/-5, though.  I just retook the PM test and my score moved slightly closer to the center economically while flip-flopping socially.  I don't see how people get so far from the center (not that I think the PM test is particularly accurate).

I was actually posting after Scott. ;)

The -8 thing is a reference to a classic Politico post in which he expressed his horror at what kind of decadent, dionysian life someone with a social score of -8 would lead.

I vote Democrat when there's no decent Libertarians on the ballot (for President I'll probably vote for Gary Johnson, I'll vote Dem for Senate, maybe Libertarian for House, and Democrat in State House/Senate); I'm really only in the party because I don't want to be affiliated with Obama.

Better than most, but that's to be expected. Can definitely do better than 6, though.

Your PM score isn't visible anywhere.

Surprisingly moderate. I'd have guessed a -6 or more on at least one of them.

I was surprised as well. So I took the test again and now I'm back at 6.45. :) :P

That's more like it. It is, in his profile.

Pretty bad already, but still does not properly represent the mind-numbing absurdity of JCL's actual views.

How doesn't it properly represent my views.

Mind numbing absuridity...... that's a new one.

Scary,, the working class might have to spend a lot of time(unemployed & impoverished) praying at the church or other religious establishment if he gets into any kind of position of power.

Very, very liberal for me.  Frankly, I'd be scared of all the taxes I'd have to pay if you get into a position of power.

I just can"t understand why you're an independant in Germany with your PM. I have nothing against your PM, you're typically a leftist, even if I'm not totally agree with you, it doesn't scare me, your political ideas are correct!

Just seem generic centre-left (ish) to me. I wouldn't vote for anyone with that score, but I wouldn't be scared/despairing if they came into power. The social score isn't too bad to be fair.

I appreciate this kind of moderation. Indiana needs politicians like you, like Dick Lugar, like Donnelly. Even if I can disagree with you, you are the best we can have in Indiana to try to represend most of people and to do compromise!

Pretty good PM score with me.  A little to the left of me, but not bad.
