Title: Who is the most gay-friendly hopeful?
Post by: Oswald Acted Alone, You Kook on August 29, 2011, 10:44:51 AM
Republicans are generally against homosexual rights. But not all of them are this way, and its only been within the last 8 years that homosexuals have been prominent.

Still, who is the most gay-friendly hopeful?

Huntsman is basicly White Obama, so I guess him.

In converse who (besides Santorum) is the most anti-gay hopeful?

Ironically, Karger aside, the two most gay friendly GOP candidates are both Mormon; Huntsman is way ahead, but Mittens is fairly relaxed (and would be more relaxed about it if the GOP let him...)

The most anti-gay hopeful is Bachmann, who is not only anti-gay but pretty much stands against the concept of people being gay which is a strange new territory.

She has a point. After all, she knows all about the gays, since she's married to one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADMgWXBzPwQ).

And Huntsman.

Obama is too worried about falling under 98% among blacks to be pro-gay.

No. He's done way more for gays than for blacks. And the blacks are going to support Obama anyway.

Uh, the current version of Mitt supports a federal amendment to 'protect marriage' (now, ask him again in a month maybe).

No. Paul has your typical anti-gay evangelical troll views. He doesn't support civil unions, doesn't support anti-discrimination laws, doesn't support anti-bullying measures, etc. At least in public view (and probably privately as well, where both are more gay-friendly), Huntsman is not that different from Obama, though.

No idea what Johnson's positions are; he's just a joke.

I haven't heard of a joke 2-term governor with a billion dollar surplus and highest job creation for his state out of all states and is still very popular where people know him.

Paul and Johnson would be slap bang in the middle of the pro/anti gay scale because both of them seem to want to just stay out of it. Why should the government care if you are gay? My favourite thing about Paul is that though his personal views don't support gay marriage, he doesn't let that get in the way of his view that the government shouldn't care if you're gay.

lol Mitt doesn't really support any social conservative position.  He's just desperate for votes.

Though I support gay marriage if its passed state by state, I don't understand why its such a negative to support civil unions.  Circa 2000-2004 this would have been appreciated by the gay community.  In fact, that was the major push around that time and it only changed as the community sensed opportunities.

A federal civil union law will provide for the exact same benefits that ssm offers other than the singular word marriage.  Almost all of the GOP candidates support civil unions (besides Bachmann, Santorum, Perry) - I recall even John Kerry supporting civil unions with no constitutional ban.

Is it just me, or is it not hilarious that the most anti-gay candidates are either closeted gay (i.e., Santorum) or married to a closet gay (i.e., Bachmann)?

Paul is at least as gay-friendly as Obama.

Johnson probably would be like, "Gay marriage?  Stop wasting my time with stupid social issues.  Sure, get married, I've got bigger things to worry about."

Spot on apart from Perry. After his gaffe about letting NY legalise gay marriage he proposed a constitutional amendment banning it.
