Title: 2012 State of the Union Address
Post by: Joe Biden 2020 on January 19, 2012, 10:21:35 AM
I don't know if this belongs here or in General Discussion, but the 2012 SOTU address to a joint session of Congress will air at 9:00 pm EST on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from the House Chamber.

What will the rhetoric be in this address.  What new bright ideas will he come up with?

Also, will this be President Obama's final SOTU or will he be granted 4 more?

Obama will announce he's appointing Rick Perry as Secretary of Being A Bro, while making Mitt Romney ambassador to Utah.

This almost makes it worth watching.  I can't stand watching Obama speak, though.

Damn, I usually like to get drunk while I watch the SOTU, but now I'm going to have to drink lots of coffee just to stay awake through Daniels response.

At least it'll just be dull, not awkward and creepy like, oh, say, Bobby Jindal's.

The GOP really need to get Christie or Rubio to be doing these things. Not boring, going-nowhere policy wonks.

He'll reiterate the jobs bill and will announce more streamlining of the government.

Fortunately he has four more of these.

It would be quite awesome if my man Mitch used this to launch a super late entry. A man can dream.

Whatever he says, it's almost surely going to be out of touch with reality and therefore will make good material for anti-Obama ads.

If he endorses school uniforms, he might as well just not run again.

Is this a pressing political issue?

Clinton apparently thought it was.

Yeah, it would be hilarious to see him go all-out-Clinton and just give a laundry list of absurd (yet pointless/harmless and therefore uncontroversial) initiatives.

I never actually saw the Jindal response. What was so bad about it?

This is on the same day as the vote on SOPA/PIPA. Will Obama bring that up?

He sort of tripped over his response. The Governor later quipped "I couldn't read a teleprompter."

Obama warns left: You won't like budget

Top White House officials are warning liberal and labor leaders to brace themselves for President Obama’s budget proposal.

In his first three years, Obama had a free hand to suggest spending levels for government programs in his annual budget blueprint. But that is not the case this year because the administration is constrained by the budget deal reached in August to raise the debt limit.

He must stick to the $1.047 trillion spending cap he agreed to with GOP leaders, which means he will call for less discretionary spending than he did last year.

Senior administration officials fear a backlash from the left and are trying to prepare their allies to expect a disappointing budget, sources say.
