Let's Get It Over With Amendment

Article V, Section 2, Clause 1 of the Atlasian Constitution is hereby amended to read:

1. A person may become a registered voter if they have attained five posts and have been registered at the forum for at least three days. In registration, the person must state their name and State of fantasy residence; In addition, they may optionally state a political affiliation.

I've always been in favor of lower requirements, and got it passed as President, but even I think this is too low. 25 posts and 7 days is as low as I'd want it to get.

The reason I proposed this is simple. This is the logical extension of all of the arguments people have made over the last couple years to keep nicking away more and more at our registration requirements. Including some arguments from our current President himself.

Snowguy in fact once argued that having people have to wait a few weeks to join Atlasia was turning Atlasia into an exclusive and elitist gentleman's club that kept members out. Time and time again people pop up, lower requirements, and then use it as a bullet-point in their campaigning, and I'm tired of seeing newbies used as political footballs by cynical politicians.

"I love newbies, so I lowered your registration requirements by a day or two! Vote for me!" It annoys me to no end. If registration requirements are really such an issue, then let's essentially get rid of them entirely. No one can grandstand on this issue anymore, and we'll really put this preposterous "lower requirements = get more meaningful activity" notion that has been repeatedly debunked, to its fullest test.

I would greatly appreciate it if this would at least generate some amount of discussion, even if it ultimately doesn't pass. I want to see those who constantly use newbies for their own political purposes chime in on this. Our President, among them.

You need another Senator to join you on your obstructionism, now.

I always thought 18 posts was a cute requirement. :P

Our PPT has decided to troll the Senate!

With a proposal supposedly supported by the President? Are you accusing the President of being a troll?

"Supposedly" supported? That's a meaningful statement! Marokai, you genius. You're totally right. By saying "the PPT has decided to troll the Senate", I was secretly calling President Snowguy a troll. There. You caught me. I can't match your logic.

Here, I'll even offer an amendment!

Let's Get It Over With Amendment

1. Electricity is free for everybody everywhere.

This amendment is simply the logical extension of what the PPT wanted to do with the so-called "Electricity Fairness Act". Therefore, he "supposedly" supports it.

I don't even understand what point you just had there. Snowguy has explicitly said in the past he supports the abolition of registration requirements, and lowering them whenever possible. This goes as far as possible in reducing registration requirements without abolishing them entirely.

If you're calling that position trolling, then Snowguy is apparently also a crazy troll. All I ask from this Amendment is that it receives proper debate, and input from people who support reducing registration requirements ad infinitum.

And as for your amendment, I'm invoking Article 4, Section 2, Clause 4 (https://uselectionatlas.org/AFEWIKI/index.php/Current_Senate_Rules,_Regulations,_and_Procedures#Section_2:__Rules_on_Introduction_of_Amendment.28s.29) in the Senate rules to dismiss your amendment as frivolous and am removing it from consideration. If you wish to challenge that action, please find two other Senators that support your amendment and wish to override that action.

This amendment is frivolous and our Senators don't deserve to have to deal with your trolling.

You're "debating" is actually baiting. Stop wasting our time.

Plenty of people support ditching or slashing registration requirements, and I'm legitimately supportive of passing this to see if it has a positive impact. The only person trolling here is the one flinging out motions to table, that thankfully can no go nowhere without you getting a sidekick, or unrelated amendments, which you thankfully also can't use to screw with the process unless you find two other people.

I seriously wanted opinions on this issue and genuinely will vote in favor of this to see if it has a benefit to the game. That is all. That is what "debate" in the Senate is for.

I say 35 posts and be registered for 10 days sounds a little better. Just my two sense.

One of the game's biggest weaknesses is it's registration requirements, which turn away prospective members, some of whom don't come back. In my opinion, if someone wants to join the Atlas Forum solely to participate in the fantasy government, they should be allowed to do so. Let's get it over with indeed.

There is a good portion of Atlasian's who'd like to see the requirements lowered further or even abolished, so I wouldn't consider debating this bill a waste of time. We've certainly had worse bills that were discussed.

Agreed.  I personally do not see the need for registration requirements and would like to see them either abolished.  But if we can't get that, I would favor this amendment.

Also, can please keep it civil.  This is a legitimate amendment, an important aspect of the game, and deserving of debate and input from all sides.  So here is an idea, let's do our jobs, and discuss the pros and cons of this amendment.

I will admit that bgwah's comment about the 18 posts made me smile and I agree is cute.  If that is the lowest we can get it, I would support that as well.

I don't know about this. Having no registration requirements whatsoever could make Atlasia vulnerable to some kind of troll invasion. Then again, maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing if it could stir up some excitement.

FWIW, the numbers before zombie invasion were 25 posts and no days. Maybe 25 posts and 7 days?

I'd like to propose the following amendment:

Quote
Let's Get It Over With Amendment

Article V, Section 2, Clause 1 of the Atlasian Constitution is hereby amended to read:

1. A person may become a registered voter if they have attained twenty (20) posts and have been registered at the forum for at least seven (7) days. In registration, the person must state their name and State of fantasy residence; In addition, they may optionally state a political affiliation.

That amendment has long since come into effect. :P

With no debate for a few days, I'll now bring this Amendment to a final vote, so we can move on with all our lives!

The following Constitutional Amendment is now at a final vote. Please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain. 6 Ayes are currently required for passage. 7, if/when Polnut swears in.
