Title: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on January 25, 2012, 08:41:12 PM Gameplay thread: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=147790.0
Ok, so here's how this ship is going down and here's the rules and then the preface. Sorry to BaconKing for doing this here, but the Interactive Timelines board is dead. 1) Sign up for a character in this thread. 2) Game starts "September 1st 2015" and each day (approx) is (approx) one week of time in the game. 3) You must list your campaign stops for the week when playing (no more than 2 states per day) 4) Game will start when we get a handful of people on each side. 5) There will be sometimes where I will speed up time just to make things go faster. 6) After you pick your character, let me approve your bio so we don't have any conflicts. I will post more information about endorsements and how everyone is starting off later. I will be doing random events, positive and negative. For each person each day I'll flip a coin -head its positive, tails its negative. Then I'll roll a dice to determine how many points in the state you gain or lose due to the event. I'll roll again to see if the affect is state/local or both (1,2 local, 3,4 national, 5,6 both). The most subjective part is that I'll determine the state it effects you in (and the general narrative). Endorsements 1) I don't want anyone sending me a dream list of endorsements and I'm assuming everyone would like everyones endorsement. I have created a mostly objective way of doing endorsements (not included, its numerical). Senators (of the same party) from a state result in +2% in a statewide poll, Governor +4% in a statewide poll, Congressman (+.25%). The most subjective part of this will be the narrative I create but I will give additional points in the polls for decent writing/attention to certain states/creativity. The random factor (all the way above) should also make it more interesting. 2016 Narrative 2012 Results: Mitt Romney is bested by Speaker Newt Gingrich after a dazzling showing in South Carolina followed up by another win in Florida. After stumbling in several debates and a long and drawn out primary, Romney concedes to Speaker Gingrich --whom does not have enough delegates to be the nominee by the time Romney drops out. To gain the necessary delegates, Gingrich selects Ron Paul as his Vice Presidential nominee. In March 2011, Obamacare is upheld by the Supreme Court. The Arizona law is struck down. Later in 2011 Ginsburg is replaced on the Supreme Court by an equally liberal justice who won't be relevant to this. () President Barack Obama / Vice President Joe Biden - 391 EV, ~55% Popular Vote Speaker Newt Gingrich / Representative Ron Paul - 147 EV, ~44% Popular Vote Senate/Congress: Senate remains Democratic, House goes Democratic. 2013: Economy continues on an upswing, unemployment drops to 7.0% by the end of the year. President Obama's approval started at 58% and ended at ~50%. Israel threatens to bomb Iran after revealing that Iran has made substantial improvements. Egypt and Turkey say they won't intervene if Israel does. India urges Iran to give up its nuclear program. Iran seeing that its sorrounded by enemies, opens up to UN inspectors who remove materials. Seen as a win for the UN. 2014: President Obama loses the House of Representatives for a second time, this time by only a few seats, and manages to hold the Senate which is close as well. President Obama's approval drops to 44% by the end of the year. Economy continues on an upswing. 2015: Major scandal involving Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education. President Obama initially stands by Duncan but when more information breaks he fires Duncan. His approval drops to 38% but later rises back to 44%. By December 2015 unemployment is at 6.5%, inflation is at 3% and rising, the Tea Party hasn't been heard from in a while, Obamacare has started to go into effect but health care cost are still high and continue rising, and the deficit is smaller but not substantially. In terms of foreign policy, India and Iran are butting heads with India mobilizing its western forces and Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya are now quasi-parliamentary/Democratic regimes but still have serious human rights issues. Egypt's military still is a power broker while Tunisia is the most Democratic out of the bunch. Islamic fundamentalists hold the majorities in the parliaments of Egypt and Libya. If you need more info I'll add more. Hopefully we can get some people involved in this. Governor Gavin Newsom Can we say Brown had a non-fatal heart attack in 2013? He didn't die, but is left too weak to continue to the Governorship, and resigns. If not allowed, then Newsom replaces Brown in 2014 after he opts out of running for reelection. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up. Post by: sentinel on January 25, 2012, 09:17:09 PM Approved for Chris Christie and Gavin Newsom. Jerry Brown is now a nonplayable actor in this.

This'll probably need to be moved there, but good idea starting it here so more can see it. Also, not to nitpick, but wouldn't December 2014 be a better starting point? With December 2015, we're looking at the Iowa caucus being a month away. Will edit this post shortly when I pick a person. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up. I am sure that you and I will not attack each other much! Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up. December 2015 is a bit too soon, you're right but I think December 2014 is a bit too early (and the game will be too long). How does September 2015 sound? I put you down for Brian Sandoval. Post by: tmthforu94 on January 25, 2012, 11:19:03 PM September would be fine, and let people do a flashback post or two of them announcing their candidates.
Will we also be doing as usual and ask for endorsements, or will you completely decide endorsements on your own? Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up. You can ask for endorsements, but I'm working on a more fair way of doing endorsements rather than people just sending me their dream list of everyone they'd like. () Hello and "shalom". Today, we come together as citizens, concerned about the direction of this country. In Washington, the balance of power has been incredibly unstable. The progress made by Conservatives across the country in 2010 was totally erased in just two years. Last year, we were forced to go back to the starting line. In the White House, we have a historically incompetent leader, who bows to foreign leaders, and views America as just another nation. We have a President who, in the course of just eight years, has radically transformed America. We have a President who has continually put the security of the nation, and our allies in jeopardy for the sake of politics. In the Middle East, Iran is now picking fights with India. Who are we to guess that they would not harm Israel, a nation that has time and time again faced off against a determined and dangerous enemy. It is radical Islam. It is time we recognize and confront this foe, not cower in fear as this administration has done. That is why I stand before you today. I have been under fire before. I have seen war first hand. We cannot allow four more years of this administration’s policy. The economy, after nearly ten years, is still stagnate. I have been in Congress for six years, and I am convinced we have the right policies to fix this mess. What we don’t have is the proper President to fix this mess. And that’s why I am here. Today, I am announcing my campaign for the Presidency of the United States of America! *This is a flashback* Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up. You know he's pro-choice, right? :P I know Sandoval has said he's pro-choice, but he hasn't said how pro-choice he is, so I'm going to make him about as conservative as you can get on abortion and still be technically pro-choice. I'm playing Cuomo as the centrist candidate in the Democratic primary, but he's still a blue state governor who's socially liberal. There's definite room for a Manchin or a Schweitzer. In 2010, Brian Sandoval was elected to the Governor's Mansion in Nevada, defeating Rory Reid by around 10 points. In his first year as Governor, he proposed a $6 million budget that did not raise taxes, and lowered the size of government spending drastically. He also became well-known for refusing a pay raise, and later donating his entire salary of 2011 to charities within the state. He proceeded to cut spending every year until 2013, when Nevada finally reached a balanced budget. There was an attempt by the Nevada Senate (Went Republican in 2012) to pass right-to-work legislation, but it was killed pretty quickly. As Governor, Sandoval also was able to sign a bill in to law that would require minor's to notify their parents of an abortion. Yucca Mountain was passed up for a nuclear waste storage facility, which was seen as a big win for Sandoval, who lobbied hard against it. Nevada also has an increased amount of alternate energy being used, looking to solar and wind power. As a former Attorney General, Sandoval has been an avid critic of Obamacare, and still vows that most, if not all of it, should be repealed, as it is unconstitutional. Within his 6-year period, unemployment has fallen to 8%, with unemployment only rising one month during his tenure. In 2014, Sandoval was reelected Governor with 57% of the vote. There will be two or three "debates." Each debate I will give you 3 questions to answer (I was thinking 5 but that may be too many) and you will answer them sometime that "week." I'll rate your answers and whoever has the best out of the 3 gets a bump in the polls. Best Answers - +3 national polls, +5 in state poll (where the debate occurs) 2nd Best Answers - +2 in national polls, +3 in state poll 3rd Best Answers - +1 national polls, +1 state poll 4th - No change 5th -1 national, -1 state 6th - -2 national, -3 state 7th/8th - -3 national, -5 state Thoughts? Like Goldfield, I won't have the time to fully participate over the next few weeks, and I'd rather not half-ass it (especially if I'm going head-to-head with Gillibrand), so Rahm Emanuel will be withdrawing and endorsing Senator Gillibrand today. For a governor whose state numbers 46th in job creation, it's no surprise he stoops to attack others' records rather than defending his own. That Senator Dean Heller supports the failed economic policies of Governor Sandoval should also not come as any great surprise. Sen. Heller has consistently stood on the side of job exporters instead of defending the interests of the American worker. Senator Gillibrand has a proven record as a champion of the middle class and she stands by her record and is proud of it." I could use some more surrogates. I'll do South Carolina next. Also, send me 6 endorsement requests and I will grant 3 of them as long as there isn't too much overlap b/w candidates (and they must be realistic). Endorsement requests may not be from SC, IA, NH or FL. Sandoval has the NV delegation. Christie; the NJ delegation. West/Rubio/Bush - Florida endorsements will come soon. Maybe I'll do those tonight as well. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: H.E. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on February 20, 2012, 12:32:44 AM FYI - Whoever wins the Dem/GOP nomination I will ask to count how many stops you made in each state up to the point that you won the nomination (or if everyone else drops out). I have been keeping track of this as best as possible and this will help me determine a few variables for the general election.
Example: Nick's Campaign Schedule 3/11 - Iowa 3/12 - Iowa/NH 3/14 - NH/California Iowa - 1.5 NH - 1 California - .5 Don't go smaller than halves, I'm not that picky. (Don't send me the # now, I'll want it when you win the nomination). Gillibrand/Trump/Hagel - Try to make at least one post per week (the real 7 day week not the game week) while the GOP contest is still being contested. I'm not making any "schedule" requirements for this post, just a general post of whatever campaign related stuff you want to post. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: Vote UKIP! on February 23, 2012, 01:19:31 PM Are states winner-take-all, or proportional in this game?
Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on February 23, 2012, 03:45:27 PM Are states winner-take-all, or proportional in this game? Pretty confident I explain it on the first page but if there is a "W" next to the # of GOP delegates then that state is winner take all. Democratic Primary is all proportional. Both primaries have a 15 percent threshold Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on February 27, 2012, 10:01:27 PM Accepting requests for endorsements. You can send me 4 names. I will give you between zero and four of them depending on how realistic they are and how well you are doing right now.
Also accepting polling requests. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: tmthforu94 on March 03, 2012, 12:26:21 AM I'm sorry if this comes across as rude, but is Chuck Hagel going to actually be considered a serious contender with comments like that?

Yeah, I'll try to make a battleground map --lemme see how it goes with making it for both Sandoval v. Gillibrand and Sandoval v. Gillibrand --otherwise I'll def have them for when there is a GOP nominee. But you do have to admit that 'Hagelgate' just rolls off the tongue. It does roll off the tongue well. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on March 06, 2012, 10:28:33 AM Sandoval/Gillibrand/Trump/Hagel - Since Sandoval and Gillibrand are now the presumptive nominees we're going to skip a few months in this whole process.
The game will re-start on July 1st 2016 and the election will be held on November 8th 2016. Your first post or so will be announcing your Vice Presidential candidate. Feel free to grab another person from the forum to be your VP, just clear it with me first, or just post on your own. As per the rules in the primary, you may only be in a maximum of two states per day. One week in game will still be every two days IRL. The Republican National Convention will be August 15 - 19. The Democratic National Convention will be August 29 - September 2. I think in total that means the game should go for 14 days IRL. We'll start tomorrow, March 7. Other questions? Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: tmthforu94 on March 06, 2012, 10:34:27 AM Will both Gillibrand and I have access to all members of our party on the campaign trail?
Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on March 06, 2012, 12:39:02 PM Will both Gillibrand and I have access to all members of our party on the campaign trail? Yes. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on March 09, 2012, 10:10:24 PM Senator Hagel Announces VP Pick "Since the trend here seems to be to choose fat obnoxious Yankees as running mates, I have made a decision- if Governor Sandoval thinks Governor Christie's straight talk makes him a statesman- I am here to one him up... I am proud to announcea fighter, a woman, a lesbian, the next Vice President of the United States Rosie O'Donnell!!!" () O'Donnell- "Thank you Senator Hagel- it is an honor to join your ticket as you have actually fought for the country w all love... this will be a difficult campaign but we can win because the American people are sick and tired of syphilitics like Sandovval and Barbie dolls like Gillibrand...they want fighters and that is who we are and by the way- Kiss my big lesbian behind Donald Trump!" Senator Hagel's spokesman- "Senator Hagel congratulates Senator Gillibrand for choosing a running mate with military experience- even if he was a reservist, Governor Beebe answered his call. Compare this to the Republican ticket- a syphilitic and a human hot air balloon- neither of whom have served their nation in uniform. Senator Hagel looks forward to debating these chickenhawks..." Clarence - I don't know what you're trying to get at it. If you have a problem with the way I'm running this then speak up. If you're just being a nitwit then get out of the game. Actually, you're out of the game so don't bother. I gave you a few chances already. Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: sentinel on December 17, 2012, 04:28:36 PM Third parties would be open as we enter the general.
So, lemme get it straight. Democratic Ticket: President: Gillibrand - mondale84 (apparently not around anymore) Vice President: Beebe - Snowstalker Republican Ticket President: Sandoval - tmthforu94 Vice President: Christie - NHI Starting Date: August 1, 2016 I know I saw superique said he could replace Mondale, is anyone else willing? I want someone committed, so if superique is willing and committed he can do it. Don't start anything yet, I want to lay out some ground rules. This is the last map I have: () Sandoval: 284 Gillibrand: 254 If both tickets agree, would starting with this be okay? Title: Re: 2016 Election Game - Sign Up & Rules Post by: Kitteh on December 17, 2012, 04:47:47 PM I'd love to replace Mondale84 too given that Gillibrand is one of my favorite politicians but since Superique asked for it first they should get it to be fair.

Note. this is actually one of my own Presidents, he won over Hillary Clinton/Howard Dean, and George Bush/Jeb Bush in 2000, and won re-election in 2004. I know the primaries are under way but I just thought someone would like this one to be a vp possibility. If anybody wants another I have about a dozen more, if any of you need anymore, ask! This is just some from my *other timelines: Byril Chaffeman R-AK, and R-CN (AK Senator, Governor,) and (CN Senator) Jake Hancock II R-MI (Senator, Governor, Senate Majority Leader) Willis M. Jackson DixieCrat-MS (Senator, Governor) Antonio Van Nuys R-AZ (Governor) Chad Van Thep R-AZ (Senator) Theodore Roosevelt Franklin R-CA (Governor) Samuel T.
