Title: Wyoming County Convention Results Post by: Erc on March 07, 2012, 03:45:32 PM Starting yesterday (March 6) and continuing through this Saturday (March 10), Wyoming is holding its County Conventions, the second stage of Wyoming's process, following last month's caucuses.
12 counties select one delegate each directly to Tampa; the other 11 select alternates. All counties elect delegates to the State Convention (April 12-14), which selects the remaining 14. On March 6, Big Horn, Laramie, Natrona, Teton, Washakie, and Weston counties held their conventions. Bolded counties chose a delegate to Tampa. Romney's wins in Big Horn and Washakie were to be expected (he won majorities there in last month's caucuses). Santorum had won Natrona and Laramie in February (with pluralities), so Romney did better than expected. Paul had won a narrow plurality in Weston, and hung on there. Niobrara County holds its convention this evening (March 7). At last month's caucuses, Paul had a one-vote plurality over Gingrich.
All of 22 people voted, though that was up 2 from the number of people who voted in the caucuses. This seems to be a trend; more people were at the County Convention in Laramie than were at last month's caucuses, as well. Santorum wins Park County, 29-27 (over Romney). Romney had won a plurality in the caucus. Santorum wins Platte County, 43-11 (over Uncommitted), as expected. Carbon, Lincoln, and Sublette are still outstanding. Lincoln county elected a Romney delegate, as expected. Sublette county elected a Romney delegate, as expected. The Romney camp is challenging (http://www.powelltribune.com/news/item/9406-rick-santorum-takes-park-county-delegate) yesterdays results in Park County. Apparently, on the second ballot, Romney won 28-26, but for some reason a third ballot was held on which Santorum won 29-27. Mitt Romney has won the Wyoming Caucus after Santorum won the Kansas Caucus on Saturday. Romney will take home 6 more delegates. Here's how it went down live: Sunday 5:15 p.m. Counting the counties that began voting earlier in the week, Romney ends up taking home 7 delegates to Santorum's 3. Thank you Wyoming. :D |
