Title: It's really funny that people think Christie is an electable national candidate

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/09/christie-argues-with-veteran_n_1334963.html

Quote
Gov. Chris Christie argued with a former Navy SEAL Thursday over the state's plans to reconfigure public universities in New Jersey -- resulting in Christie calling the man an idiot.

William Brown -- a Rutgers-Camden law student opposes the governor's plan to merge his school with Rowan University, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Brown asked the governor during a town hall meeting in Burlington County to consider how the merger would affect students, and veteran students in particular, before going ahead with his plan. Christie responded by telling Brown the merger was going to happen because it would provide bigger and better opportunities.

The situation escalated into a shouting match, and Brown continued to make his argument while Chrisite was speaking, saying that no one in South Jersey wanted this to happen.

Christie ordered Brown escorted out and said, "If you decide what you want to do is put on a show today, let me tell you something, I can go back and forth with you as much as you want. And let me tell you something, after you graduate from law school, you conduct yourself like that in a court room, your rear end’s gonna get thrown in jail, idiot."

After Brown left, Chrisite said, "You know, I tried to be patient with the guy. Every time I tried to answer, he started yelling over me again. Damn, man, I’m governor, could you just shut up for a second?"

The dude is an asshole. Assholes don't win presidential elections. Maybe they can win a plurality against a corrupt incumbent in the middle of a recession, but putting this guy on the national stage is going to be a disaster.

The asshole actually managed a bare majority, last time that happened (1980). Or did you mean Clinton?

Agreed- he is not a statesman at all. I do not admire him and I qustion why some one like Kissinger would want him to run

I once (foolishly) thought that this guy might be a somewhat competitive choice for the GOP come 2016, just because the media admires him so much.  But all he does is reinforce bad New Jersey stereotypes.

No way. Reagan wasn't a morbidly obese bully from New Jersey whose idea of free speech was having state troopers removing anyone that disagreed with him.

Obese he was not, indeed. Nor from Jersey. :)

Yeah, this is why I can't imagine a President Christie. Things like his weight are total non-issues compared to the way he interacts with people.

But despite that, I will say it's kinda nice to see someone not BS all the time. Even if that means it's ridiculous assholery, you can at least tell this guy is an actual person, unlike other potential Presidents.

OMG, Christie is pugnacious. So were Truman (who threatened to assault a journalist) and RFK.

I think Christies style is what America needs right now. He is a "loveable" asshole to most Republicans and Independents. The same can be said for Alan Grayson, only with Democrats and Independents.

The guy's an asshole, but that's how you get people riled up. You get an asshole President. How awesome would that be if we had a President that called someone like Stephen Harper or Hugo Chavez an idiot in front of the whole world? Awesome.

There's not really any point in fretting over or disparaging potential candidates. It probably won't happen this year, but the GOP will win the Presidency again sometime in our lives. Just something you and I and everyone else is going to have to deal with.

Sure, but they're not electable.  Christie will never get elected with an attitude like he has now.  He probably won't ever get elected nationally even if he cleaned up a bit.

It was his deceitful campaign ad that really hurt him.  Grayson's obnoxiousness wasn't too bad on the floor of the House.  Although Christie has never gone as far to say stuff to the level of "'Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly."

Assuming the 2012 Republican candidate loses in the general election (seems likely at this point), I expect the 2016 Republican primary to be equally enjoyable.

Clearly, the only folks opposed to FF Alan Grayson are those 61.6% of voters who chose someone other than he when dude ran for re-election. What haters they were!

Uh, they voted for a right wing fundie extremist over a progressive hero. That goes much worse than Moderate Heroism, and is a true shame on the district.

I don't know anything about whoever replaced Grayson, but considering they were a Republican candidate elected in Florida in 2010 it's safe to assume they're utterly terrible, sure, but maybe if Grayson hadn't spent him time being an IRL troll he might have, if nothing else, lost by a less comfortable margin.

I get that it's gratifying for a lot of people on the left to have an equivalent to the hordes of freaks and sociopaths across the aisle, but it ultimately doesn't do the Democrats any favours to have an easily caricatured attention whore like Grayson in their ranks.

...IMO.

People would generally prefer that others not be honest about their godawful personalities.

Yeah, for entertainment's sake, I hope that Christie will be as outspoken toward his fellow candidates as he is toward everyone else. Seriously, since the rest of the likely Republican field in 2016 looks so terribly bland, as far as personality goes, I'd hope at least Christie will be fun to watch.

Because if you want a person to answer your question, it's probably best not to talk over him while he's giving an answer.

It's Christie's own personality that he's too, shall we say, honest-by-deed about.

Exactly.

It's not that he disagreed it's that the Gov respectfully have him a chance to state his position and when it was his turn to respond the seal was acting very childlike. And the funny part about it is that he's a second year law student who probably thinks that kind of behavior would be acceptable in a court room.
