Title: Final planned debate cancelled
Post by: Likely Voter on March 18, 2012, 12:55:33 PM
We all assumed this would happen, but now it is official (via UPI (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2012/03/16/Oregon-GOP-presidential-debate-canceled/UPI-73501331924780/#ixzz1pUZK40RX))
Quote
The Republican presidential debate scheduled for Monday in Oregon has been canceled, state GOP Chairman Allen Alley said.

"At this point in the race, there has been a shift in the flow of the campaigns from the debate environment to a strategic state-by-state approach," Alley said in a release. "It is clear that the Republican presidential campaign has entered a new phase where the candidates do not want to debate each other."

The debate, sponsored by The Washington Times, Oregon Public Broadcasting and the Oregon Republican Party, would have been the 21st debate of the primary.

The Times said Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum couldn't commit to the debate, while Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul had agreed to participate.

Apparently Romney said no first, and then Santorum followed. I think Rick should have agreed and then called Romney a wimp.

You'll have to run for president first, champ.

I would love to see Obama debate these clowns 10 times.

Lol I meant 10 debates between Obama and Romney. The problem is though that winning is based on which candidate a viewer identifies with more. I'll agree with Romney more so I'll think he made better points and the Democrats will think Obama won because they'll agree with him on more things.

Mittens doesn't want to take the risk (and maybe he believes the polls that what remains of Newt's strength would split between him and Rick, so further erosion of Newt would not hurt him), and Rick of course doesn't want to give Newt any oxygen at all; he wants him asphyxiated.

Good point, but I imagine Rick would have said yes if Gingrich had dropped out.

But once Romney said no, Rick lost a chance to make it into an issue that Romney is pussing out

So you want an Obama landslide, then?
