Post by: WalterMitty on March 21, 2012, 05:45:33 PM
close, but i vote no.

there still may be enough yankee republicans alive in essex county who (mistakenly) believe mitt romney is a yankee republican.

Against Santorum, he might break 80. Against Romney, no: he'll probably break 65, but not 70.

No.  In fact I'll even wager to say that '08 was probably the high-water mark for Democratic presidential candidates in Vermont for a while.

No; if it didn't happen in 2008, it won't happen this year.

It wasn't really solid Republican. From 1976 to 2000 it swung more Democratic with every election. Clinton was just the guy who pushed it into the Democratic column.

Probably not against Romney. Now, if Santorum or Gingrich somehow magically got the nomination, sure he would.

For the same reasons that Alabama used to be solidly Democratic.

It was even the one state where the GOP vote % decreased from 1976 to 1980. Ever since, it's had a lower GOP % than the nation at large in each presidential election.

I'm sorry if this has come up a million times before, I can see you've been around here for a long time, I've only really been frequenting this forum since this primary season started.

He'll probably get a bit less than he did in 2008; 65 percent sounds about right.

I do wonder if Obama will get Essex again. Someone more knowledgeable on Vermont can correct me if I'm wrong, but Romney probably has a fairly good shot there, no?

For the same reason it is now solid Dem. Republicans became the Southern party, and the Vermont Yanks don't like that.

No. Romney will have vague appeal with Rockefeller Republicans.
