Voted Option 2, though I wasn't happy about it.

53-47.

I think this year's ballot measures will go something like this:

MD approval - Passes by 1-3 points
ME approval - Passes by 7-9 points
MN ban - Fails by 1-3 points
NC ban - Passes by 8-10 points in the May primary (pass more narrowly if it was in November)
WA approval - Passes by 4-6 points

It'll pass narrowly most likely and even has a slim chance of failure now that the Presidential primary is unimportant.  Banning civil unions as well as gay marriage is what will make it so slim. If the sponsors had contented themselves with banning gay marriage alone, it would pass with double digits.

It's the South, stupid !

So, double-digits unfortunately.

Besides, 2 people are morons.

BTW:

Man/Woman marriage currently leads 57-37, says SUSA's new poll of likely voters:

The same poll has respondents say that same sex couples should have legal recognition by a 57-39 margin. Liars.

Might be more hopeful than realistic, but I will say it will fail by 3-4 points.

Unforunately:

For 67%
Against 33%

I'm sure it'll pass but the margin sure as hell isn't going to be that wide.

Option 1, by the current polling margin or a little more, so I think that makes it like 60-40.

This wouldn't shock me but I like mitty's 55-45 prediction.

Do we not have a results thread?  Reports are urban-heavy, but closer than I expected:

Yes 53.08%
No 46.92%

Also, it's currently receiving only 43% among Election Day ballots.  It's early votes that are giving it a win -- 60% for.

I think this is the results thread, though it would probably fit better under the 'Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections' sub-forum.

Where are you getting your results Alcon? I only found this link (Am. 1 is at the bottom of the page): http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/36596/79909/en/summary.html

Results are very urban-heavy, though, so I suspect it will creep up toward 60% (probably mitigated a bit by the disproportionately Election Day-heavy votes from now on.)

The state shouldn't be getting into the marriage business.  And where there are benefits not related to the "holy" or contractual aspects of the union (inheritance, property rights, etc) lets make it equal.  Let a church decide if it will marry someone, but let all the other stuff be equal beyond that.

Not only was this vote bigoted but idiotic too. Now an abusive boyfriend may also get away with spousal abuse, and there is nothing the girlfriend can do either.

EDIT: I also came across that a lot of single mothers and STRAIGHT domestic partners will lose a lot of benefits because of this. I cannot wait to see their faces when they find out that they voted to have their own rights taken away.

What is America's soul?

Can you be an apostate if you were not part of the church to begin with?

Spousal immunity is the result of thousands of years of social tradition being codified into law.

You could end government issued marriage licenses, but, only if you abolish spousal immunity, or heavily regulate it [ie have the state decide whom really is, and isn't "married."]

Are you for abolishing spousal immunity?

Soul of America? So if America dies can it go to heaven or hell?

Ok. I jest.

But I guess the question I really want to ask is, I take it as a given that you believe that upon your death you will go to heaven because of your belief in the death in resurrection, no? So what does it matter if no states or all 50 legalize gay marriage? Does that prevent up you or anyone else from reaching paradise if they believe in the passion? I realize that Christ may not be pleased with such a development like a bajillion other things this or any other country does but is this a deal breaker or something?

sure, here's a map:

probably not the one you wanted though.  I did find that the NC state board of elections does have clickable county-by-county data:

http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/36596/80768/en/select-county.html

Not exactly a the map you wanted, but probably more helpful than a map of the states of the Austro-Hungarian empire circa 1914.  And it's clickable!  :)

The available online graphics for this were pretty terrible, so I made one that should be easy to view. The coloring is done by 10% shading with the darkest green 80-90% in favor and the darkest red 70-80% against.

welcome to the forum...but I am NOT imposing my religious beliefs on your life, for you are free to marry whomever you like - no cops are going to stop the ceremony or bust down your door.  Just don't ask for my proxy approval of what you do by asking for the state to condone your actions, for I do not and will not condone them.

Being unable to visit your gay partner of 30 years in the hospital because you're not a family member. Being unable to attend your gay partner's funeral because his family (who has hasn't spoken to in those same 30 years) decides you shouldn't be allowed to. Having to fight off your partner's family in court after they sue you for your partner's share of your joint assets.

It's what Jesus would have wanted, after all.

first of all there is nothing wrong with marrying your cousin.
second you can marry your "gay" cousin if they are a member of the opposite sex.

this so called "civil right" is a insult to everybody who ever fought for true civil rights.

you think that 2 men could "marry" each other and you think I have the problem?

Some people have leap of faith religious objections to gay marriage. NYJew is one. That ends the discussion. It's just like abortion. One goes in to dissect and deconstruct when the leaps of faith are gift wrapped into some sort of secular empirical case against calling gay unions marriage, rather than legal contracts or some sort of BS, because the moniker is veritable Godzilla that will wreak societal havoc like that tsunami that hit Hokkaido after that 9 Richter quake. Then of course, one moves in for the kill, and it is like shooting fish in the barrel. Alcon clearly loves shooting fish. :P

Quote from: Governor Bev Perdue
People around the country are watching us and they're really confused to have been such a progressive forward thinking economically driven state that invested in education and that stood up for the civil rights people including the civil rights marches back in the 50's and 60's and 70's.  People are saying what in the world is going on with North Carolina; we look like Mississippi.

Fully agree, but LOL nonetheless.
