Title: Larry McDonald vs. Jacob Javits
Post by: ○∙◄☻¥tπ[╪AV┼cVê└ on May 26, 2012, 01:14:16 AM
Assume 1980 if you need to assume a year.

Senator Javits R-NY was the most liberal Republican to serve in Congress during the 1937-2002 period. He was defeated in the primary in 1980, and ran and lost on the Liberal party line.

Larry McDonald D-GA was the batsh**t extreme right-wing ultimate DINO from Georgia. During that period, only Ron Paul had a more right-wing voting record, although some other Republicans from the last decade have beaten him for extremism. He was killed when the Soviets downed the plane he was in.

Gotta disagree.  There was also Vito Mercantonio, who ran as a GOP/American Labor Party fusion candidate in the 40s and 50s, and Fiorello LaGuardia, both NYC GOPers, and much more liberal than Javits (at least Mercantonio was) IMO.  This would also be a kickass TL

I'm a conservative Republican, but I've got mad respect for the moderate/liberal Republicans, so I would've probably voted for Javits.

You're speaking as if you appreciate the fact that the USSR assassinated him!

Of course, again I expected this.

In 1980, I vote Javits, easily.

In 2012, I vote for the one with the D next to his name.

EDIT: Actually, no, not for President. But for Congress, definitely.
