I am curious  if it is possible  that we existed in some form before we were born? any thoughts

yes, as fetuses :)

before that, I doubt it.  Each of us is a unique creation, contingent on a specific happenstance of conception, formed out of a somewhat random assortment of genes, our life experiences, our actions and relationships. If we preexisted, what distinguishes one person in that state of preexistence from another?

Is this in reference to reincarnation?

I wouldn't be surprised if the essence of me existed in infinite pieces universes away.

That depends on whether you hold our consciousness ("soul") is tied directly to our brain, or if it is somehow independent of our brain.  I see no evidence for the latter so I assume the former, though it's not something I ever think about.
