I'm 26, slightly above the my ideal weight.

Before last summer it was 32! Thats what doing intense cardio every day does :)

I'm 26 as well, eating whatever I want and never exercising at all, and in my mid-forties.

Mine is 30.4, which evidently puts me a few pounds over the threshold into obesity. I suppose it is to be expected given my lack of discipline to exercise half an hour per day and tendency to both eat a lot when distressed and otherwise be hungry most of the time. Drinking water and milk, eating a lot more fruit and less grains, and cutting diet sodas entirely out of my diet had no effect.

I am 6' 3" in height and 243 pounds in weight.

Yeah, it doesn't take into account whether or not you are big-boned and does not differentiate between muscle and fat.

17.72 according to my weight on my parents' scale (138) but I question the legitimacy of that scale and probably weigh more like 142, which would give me a BMI of 18.23. I'm 6'2" by the way.

True, consider that Bale on the left is only considered a bit underweight and on the right he is obese. Things like body fat percentage and even waist size or waist to hip ratio are better indicators.

the BMI is really misleading... it doesn't take bone density, muscle mass into account, just height v weight... every gym trainer I've known thinks it's bollocks and makes people think they're fat when they're actually perfectly healthy for their body.

26, I suppose that's what you get when you eat complete junk but make a point of walking instead of driving whenever possible.

I'll be the one to buck that trend.  According to my doctor this past Saturday, 30 June 2012 - I have a BMI of a whopping 41.  I'm far from a walking skeleton.  I'm a plump jackolantern!

It's a useful tool for studying a whole population. Not so much for the individual.  I'm at the high end of overweight, about 29. It would be great for me to lose about 25 pounds, but short of historic famine, there's no way I'll ever drop enough to get out of overweight.
