Title: Re: Classical music Post by: Simfan34 on May 06, 2014, 10:54:02 PM I'm reviving this thread for continuity's sake.
I hate populist pandering like the below. It doesn't get anyone interested and just serves to annoy existing people with an interest in classical music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kmUbSud9Jk But let's talk about Walton otherwise. Do you like Walton? I quite like his 1st Symphony. It's up there with Shostakovich's 7th. I'd say I feel like his later works (especially No. 9) come of as a bit movie-scorish, but I feel Walton is guilty of the same offense. Title: Re: Classic music Post by: Filuwaúrdjan on May 07, 2014, 09:22:27 AM Walton was talented - Belshazzar's Feast is a genuinely impressive work - but unfortunately he was a total hack, so most of his output was hackwork. And, frankly, not very good hackwork at that.

Title: Re: Classic music Post by: DemPGH on May 07, 2014, 10:01:50 PM Outstanding. I like work for the piano, although I need to formally brush up on classical music. There are folks here who know vastly more than I do. I only know this and that, really major pieces of music, and whether or not I like something if I hear it. That particular piece is good.

Yes, most of his output was terrible. He was a hack, alas. Title: Re: Classic music Post by: Oakvale on May 08, 2014, 11:04:53 AM It holds zero appeal to me as I'm not a dilettante.
Title: Re: Classic music Post by: Hifly on May 08, 2014, 11:08:34 AM Walton's choral music is nice; Coronation Te Deum + The Twelve.
Is anyone else here a fan of Cesar Franck? Title: Re: Classic music Post by: Simfan34 on May 22, 2014, 09:35:02 PM Thank you all... no.
