No, I'm pretty sure that any election featuring Lord Salisbury was hairier.

And by mentioning Salisbury, let's not forget Charles Stuart Parnell and the Irish Parliamentary Paper who certainly had a fine taste in facial hair.

At least none had neckbeards. One of the few horrifying things about the National Museum of Wales are the busts of various 19th century Cardiff Liberal dignitaries and assorted other local bigwaigs. You think at first they are wearing ruffs, which seems a little odd for the 19th century. So you have a closer look...

The 1890 election was an example of battle between moustache and beard.
