Title: Some Democrats are already making moves... (2008)
Post by: Moooooo on January 30, 2005, 03:45:24 PM
"Speaking of the New York senator, there is considerable movement in the race for '08. Hillary Clinton made a big speech that was interpreted (or over-interpreted) to be an attempt to reposition her as a moderate on the abortion issue. "

"Also, Kerry has a well-funded PAC to keep his political options alive."

"John and Elizabeth Edwards are scheduled to headline the big "100 Club" fundraiser in New Hampshire on Feb. 5. "

"Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh has been working the Democratic money folks in New York and has his team of advisors, including media consultant Anita Dunn and former Dean pollster Paul Maslin, already in place. His vote against the nomination of Condi Rice was his opening salvo in nomination politics. The dance is on; Hillary takes a step to the right, Evan to the left."

"Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack is "thinking hard" about '08, according to his supporters and he rejected the race for DNC chair to explore a presidential option. "

"Delaware Sen. Joe Biden said this week that '08 might just be his year to run. "

"And, Democratic insiders are also buzzing about a blast from the past. Former V.P. Al Gore is apparently thinking hard about making a comeback in '08."

There are three Al Gore's: Populist, DLCer and Greenie Liberal.
If an Al Gore runs it'll be interesting to see which one runs... some comments he made late last year linking economic policy to the Bible indicate that Populist Al may be re-emerging.

Well, I hope for death before I hope for Gore's run.

Hm.... I think that, out of those Bayh is most likely to win the country but Gore would be the best president. I'd love to see either one run.

How about letting the three Gore's run against each other in the primaries? Nobody else contests, and the winning Gore then goes on to campaign in the General.

:)

He better think about saving his state from financial bankruptcy instead of a run for Presidenct.

I don't like him because of those eco-wacko speeches last year where he yelled and yelled and yelled, plus he just doesn't have vision. Oh, and he started those dumb CD Warning Labels.

I agree about the CDs but otherwise I think he'd make a good president.

Al Gore, in my opinion, has the potential to be one of the greatest presidents in the last 50 years. I would absolutely love to see him run and win. He's my favorite.

I agree, although I'd be real nervous after the announcement. Like the feeling in my stomach as he was making all those sighs in the debates.

And what about his orange glow and wooden personality?

Al Gore would not make a good president.  Though, I'd vote for him over Sen. Clinton.  I don't like his aggressive attitude.  The way he ranted and basically bashed Bush and Republicans in his speeches last year makes me think he, like Howard Dean, hates Republicans with a passion.

Just so you know, again, I am a registered Republican from Oklahoma City, but I can see both sides of the aisle.

I'm not going to discuss the merits of the individual candidates here, because there is any number of other threads on this board dedicated to that subject.

As for them making moves at these early stages, that's really to be expected.  I would have said that starting early usually helps a candidate's case, but I've just thought about it and actually, it really doesn't.  Just look at Gary Hart, Joe Lieberman, John McCain, Bill Bradley, and of course, Howard Dean.  They all started their campaigns long before most others, and all ran into the sand in the end.

Our recent presidents have been too stoic.  Always worrying about how'd they look on a magazine cover and if FoxNews will call them "too angry".  Hey, I'm angry at Bush.  So many other people are too.  I want an angry president with some passion for the job.

RUN GORE RUN!!!!!!!

I don't see how people love Gore so much. He did nothing special in the Senate and as Vice President, and he started those stupid warning labels. Plus, he's about as exciting as a potato.

I have to agree that potato just about sums up his personality, but the man is very smart, very experienced, and with no personality, could unemotionally take America through really tough problems, allowing him to use all of his brain focusing on fixing the problem, not getting emotionally worked up about it.

I'm against any Kerry, Gore, or Hilliary candidacy.

Why is that? i could maybe understand dissaproving a hillary run, because i too am against a hillary candidacy but i think that gore and kerry a strong leaders that could lead to ending republican and conservative control of the nation.

Becuase Gore and Kerry dont have a chance in hell in winning. Kerry I wont even get started on, do i really wanna send another 2 years listening about Kerry in Vietnam? I dont think so. Gore lost his chance  he shoulda ran in '04 if he wanted it.

Gore and Kerry can run all they want, but they're both damaged goods.  The Democrats aren't stupid enough to make that mistake.

GORE! GORE! GORE!

I seriously want him to run, I dont know why you people hate him so much.

Read his original book for starters.  Just down right scary!

Beyond that, I have a personal problem with him for something he tried to do back in 1992 which I will not go into on this forum.

I think the ideal candidates would be either W. Clark or Edwards.

Wow. I hate to break it to you, but Edwards would probably be the worst person we could possibly pick. The man can't pick up votes for crap, he lazed around too much in '04, he got almost 0 media coverage, before '04, almost noone had heard of him, and his wife is battling breast cancer and he should be home with her. I think that a good choice for president (and, unlike most of favorite candidates, a realistic one) would be Gov. Mark Warner. His ratings are high in a republican state, plus look at our record with southern democrats. It's pretty good.

I too would have to disagree.  Both Edwards and Clark are weak candidates.  Edwards was doing poorly in his own home state as it was, and most analysts predicted that he would not have been re-elected as Senator.
