No. Boehner is smart enough to avoid impeachment in Congress and the Senate would never convict him if it got to that point.

Will the Republicans try? Yes.

Will they succeed? No.

And the GOP knows this. They knew it 15 years ago and still went ahead.

Elected Republicans will click their heels and do whatever the GOP leadership tells them to do. There will likely be some effort to impeach the President at a time intended to hurt the Democrats most.

The idea behind impeachment was to ensure that the President could not get away with taking bribery, embezzlement, being a puppet of a foreign power, lying to Congress, ordering war crimes, or doing violence to his political opponents.

The question is not "if" but instead "when".

No.  The Republicans know that any such attempt to hurt the Democrats will seriously backfire and push the GOP into near irrelevancy for the next 10 years.

Not if the Senate remains in D hands.  If both houses are solidly GOP in 2014, maybe.

Hopefully.  2014 needs to be 1998 redux.

Obama isn't likely to be voted out of office even if the Republicans do take the Senate in 2014.  There will be too many Republican senators up for reelection in two years, then.  The House... might be a different story.

Removal needs 67 votes in the Senate. It would need serious evidence of real high crimes for enough democrats to vote for it: and pretty much anyone would resign long before.  Impeachment in the House only needs a simple majority vote. But, unless there is some serious evidence of some misbehavior that is not even suspected now, Republicans would be nuts to try.

An impeachment trial is possible, but a conviction is not.

I hope so. This is exactly what we'd need to take the House in 2014 and get a filibuster proof Senate Majority.

The economy is improving, deficit falling.   Republicans are lousy at math, computer, they're too inbred to comprehend science, they are the backwash of America.  All they are capable of is impeachment.

I don't think it will happen for a second reason other than the GOP going into the wilderness.  Privately, Boehner and Obama are friends and I think Boehner respects Obama too much to even bring it to discussion, let alone a vote.  Boehner may not agree with Obama's politics, but he respects his friend too much to bring up an impeachment bill.  Furthermore, Boehner still wants the gavel on January 3, 2015 and doesn't want to hand it back to Nancy Pelosi or Steny Hoyer or whoever the Democratic leader will be in the next Congress.

There will be some wrangling with the nutters (which granted is an ever growing portion of the GOP in Congress), and the GOP is stupid, but they aren't this stupid.

You're assuming that Boehner has that degree of control over his back-benchers, which he clearly doesn't.

Will they try? Yes.
Will it work? No, though it might pass the House.

Nah, there are still a couple dozens of half-sane Republicans (as evidenced by the Sandy relief and VAWA votes) who won't get behind this.

Sure, why not.

To impeach Obama requires a simple majority from the Republican controlled House of Representative.

Of cause there's no way the Republicans will be able to remove him since that requires a 2/3 majority of the senate.

I suppose you technically can impeach the President for anything.

But, I think it would be laughable to impeach President Obama for something that isn't a crime.  Too laughable even for the clowns in the Republican caucus.

So, what's the crime?  I can't think of anything.

They can try if they like but if they do even in a gerrymandered map as it is they will lose the house.

If they were going to try to impeach Obama, don't you think it would have happened by now? We're four years into the game at this point.

That doesn't really matter to them. They impeached Clinton in his sixth year in office. Obviously in the first two years of Obama's term Republicans knew there was no way because Dems had a majority in both houses. They tried to create scandals once they took the house but nobody cared about Solyndra or Fast and Furious. Now they have something that actually could be damaging to the President and his administration, but again, nobody really cares except Fox News viewers. They might try but it will get nowhere.

Before the election, they were counting on defeating Obama, but since they failed, impeachment might actually be an option for them.

Not sure how it could be damaging if only Fox News viewers care. They already wanted Obama impeached the day he took office.

But yeah, nobody cared about Benghazi when it happened at a critical time in the general election. People really don't care now.

With the Clinton one there was at least things that happened.  An Obama impeachment trial would be an incoherent mess.
