I don't often have good ideas, but I did the other day. A lot of special threads have been posted here over the years - threads good enough to count as decent general resources on the subjects they deal with. So why not make them easier to find?

Just a little note from your friendly neighbourhood dictator: all posts not to do with links have been removed (generally deleted, but the little discussion about the Whitlam decision has been preserved elsewhere).
Posts containing links will be soon-ish as well (and all links will be added to a new post, probably sorted by country and so on).

Work in progress...

Of course. It's just that other things have a nasty habit of getting in the way. If you post links in this thread, I'll probably add them to the main list quite quickly.

I think we need more maps of places that aren't European or Anglophone. I'll get maps whenever I can put my hands on data.

You can start any thread you like and call it what you like. If you're doing council composition stuff, I've got a reasonably large collection of old Whitaker's Almanack's somewhere and can give figures (though not changes caused by by-elections) for earlier years.

Yeah, agree absolutely. There's quite a bit of electoral data for South Asian countries online, but few maps of the sort we do here and (as far as I know) no good ones.

Antony Green, the amazing Australian psephologist, has compiled a list of all of his reports into elections and redistributions and other such documents. I thought that we would all probably find his excellent work to be of interest, so I am posting the link to his list here:

Superb. I had this site in my favourites from years ago but the link had stopped working some time back. I tried searching for this site more recently but couldn't find it so assumed it had disappeared altogether. Great to have it back :)

edit. Got some weird message about not including links. I'm talking of course about the Weimar elections site

Title: Re: Links
Post by: Хahar 🤔 on June 22, 2011, 04:15:03 AM
You need a few more posts before you can post links.

And yes, that site is excellent. A few years ago I spent some time making Weimar maps. I should probably restart that sometime.

Title: Re: Links
Post by: Pete Whitehead on June 22, 2011, 04:38:25 AM
I've a few that I did but they aren't all that great so shan't bother posting them (even if I could). I used maps of current Germany so they exclude East Prussia etc.  Some I have I seem to have shaded according to the SPD vote for the 1919 election, but using the current constituencies. Presumably I just applied some kind of uniform swing based on the results in each Lander compared with 1998 or something.  A pretty blunt instrument to say the least, but just a bit of fun as they say

Oh, Great Boardbashi, I humbly beseech thee to add this link (http://www.abs.gov.au/websitedbs/censushome.nsf/home/tablebuilder?opendocument&navpos=240) to the "Demographic Links" section of the original post as the Australian Bureau of Statistics - Table Builder website. Although it costs money to register for Table Builder Pro, the standard Table Builder Basic offers free registration for non-commercial purposes while still providing the opportunity to save tables for future reference. Also, despite its name, the Table Builder allows the user to map the results presented in the table, whether by raw number, by percentage of column or by percentage of row. The maps are in five shades of colour and the bands can be determined by the user - whether natural break, or I think quintile, and possibly user-defined values. I believe the current maps are presented as an overlay in Google Maps.

Great detailed Austrian election results maps (down to the town level) for the last 3 federal elections:

2013:

2008:

http://www.strategieanalysen.at/wahlen/karten2008

2006:

http://www.strategieanalysen.at/wahlen/karten2006

...

These maps are awesome because it has a "moving tool", which allows you to see which party had at least 1% in which town, at least 2% in which town and so on.

For this you need to click on "Gemeinden/Partei" and move the button below the map to the right side.

:)

I plan to post here the maps (Paraguay and various African countries) I have already post elsewhere on the Net. Should I turn the Madagascar thread into a generic African maps thread or start a new thread?
