Title: Who will win in 2008?
Post by: mr_president on April 09, 2004, 09:33:08 PM
Who will win the presidential election in 2008? Will it be a close election? Or will one party stand out from the rest?

Hillary might be running, Gulianai will not.  But if he were, he'd easily beat her.

Neither will win.  Hillary doesn't have enough experience or support, and Giuliani probably won't run, even though he could win.

I still think Hillary will run (and perhaps win)... she really wants it. But if Rudy becomes governor of NYS he won't run.

However, It probley will be:

Hillary

VS

Rudy

No, I assure you it won't, Hillary won't win the primaries.

Guiliani wont run.. if he did run, he wont win the nomination. Hilliary will run... but wont win the nomination(perhaps she might be running-mate).

Republicans:
I think colin powell might run and might win the nomination(hopefully-not) and chose rice as his running mate.

Democrates:
John edwards will probley win the nomination and make hillary his running-mate.

(nader wont go for it again)

Powell/Rice

VS

Edwards/Clinton

EDWARDS/CLINTON will win.

Giuiliani because Hillary is a woman. Sorry, this nation is not ready for a female president.

However, Giuiliani is one of the rarest republicans I enjoy because I am from NYC. He was tough on crime, and I really liked that. Made the city a bit more clean.

I think you overrate Edwards as a cnadidate.  He would not win re-election to the Senate this year if he were running.  He'd not win any of those southern states.  I'll believe that Harold Ford can carry Tennessee when he wins a Senate race there, until then he's just another nobody hitting .320 in AA ball.

Edwards also stunk up the Dem primaries in Ohio and Michigan, calling into question whther he could win those states in a general.  His overly southern accent didn't wear well in the rustbelt.

His only strenght is in farm states.  He'd hold his own in Iowa and Wisconsin, but I can't see him doing well in the southwest or the moderate New England states (Maine, New Hampshire).  He is a southern populist in the tradition of Al Gore Sr. in a south that doesn't want populists anymore.

I don't think that matters any more. The Dems are not going to take the South for a couple of generations, I'd say. Florida is the only important exception.

But on the other hand Vermont which only voted for one Democrat from 1856-1988 will never vote Republican again in the foreseeable future.

That will happen when Pigs not only fly, they fly a mission to the moon and return with cheese that turns them into a fighting force to be reckoned with, thus creating a new Piggy World Power that will take over the world.

I don't think Clinton would do that bad with Southern (largly black) Democrats. A regional candidate like Edwards might give her trouble. She could do well in Iowa, but might have some trouble in New Hampshire.

I don't think either will be running in 2008.  Rudy will just be getting used to the perks of his new senate seat while Hillary is sulking in her forced retirement.

If Hillary does manage to survive reelection to the Senate, I would love to see a Hillary Clinton vs. Condoleeza Rice campaign.  Would that not be an entertaining race.  I think Condi would win a landslide.

No landslide.  Turnout in the south would be SUPERLOW unless a Roy Moore emerged, then we would be looking at no electoral majority.

That's why she'd have to put a good old boy on the ticket.  Roy Moore would help.  Jeb Bush would be a good VP pick.  Chambliss would be another good pick.

But I think you underestimate southern voters when you say turnout would be really low.  There would be some who wouldn't be that excited at the prospect of a Rice presidency, but they might be motivated to go out and vote against Hillary Clinton.  Don't underestimate the level of animosity that a lot of Americans have for that woman.

If Bush wins in 2004, Edwards wins in a landslide in 2008.

Kerry wins in 2004, he gets re-elected in 2008 with Edwards as his VP, Edwards goes on to win in 2012.

Either way, John Edwards will be President someday.

People voted solely on front-runner status this time around.  By the time Edwards made his move in Iowa, Dean and Kerry already had a good 75% of the support in NH.  The NH results downplayed how well Edwards did in Iowa.  Everyone though, "oh, Kerry got NH and IA, he just HAS to be the winner!"  So they all voted Kerry.

Ask ANY Republican on this board.  Who would you rather go up against?  Kerry or Edwards?

I'd say Kerry for a second term.  I don't think Hillary would win that soon.  Given how much she's been vilified by the right, she would need to have a much longer tenure in the Senate.  Maybe in ten years of so.  She'd make an awesome president though.

Kerry/Edwards ticket will win in 04 & in 08.  I think Edwards then will be the frontrunner for Pres in 12.   Unless Guliani is the Republican running against hilary in 06, she gets re-elected to a 2nd term (her approval is in the 60's now) and possibly she will be a Candidate inn the Primary with Edwards, possibly becoming Edwards's VP in 12.   Kerry loses this year, I see Edwards leading the Dems in 08, wither possibility of Clinton as the VP

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure about Hagel, he may have to wait until 2012. Definitely a President in the making, though. Frist looks more like a running-mate to me; I can envisage a Giuliani/Frist ticket for 2008. But of course there's the question over whether mainstream Republicans would accept a pro-choicer like Rudy as their candidate.
