I feel this definitely makes the language of the constitution far more clear on this matter, and gives a universal deadline for all elections, which makes considering running for the assembly far less confusing. I support this.

If I might weigh in as elections administrator for a moment: I too think that the Constitution is in desperate need of clarification with regards to elections.  This amendment does move that process along.  However, I will remind the Assembly that election in December are still held on the second weekend of the month, as opposed to the third in other months.

If the Assembly wishes to continue this arrangement, might I suggest changing the language to something like the following:

Quote
Candidates for Legislative Assembly will be given until the Wednesday preceding the first date of polling in the election they wish to contest to announce their candidacy and appear on the ballot. This is to be done by officially declaring his or her's candidacy in the Candidate Declaration Thread.

I am fine with Barnes' proposal, or alternatively we could just set the date of all elections to the third weekend of each month.

Yes, I am also fine with Barnes' proposal. Really anything to clarify the murky wording we have in the constitution regarding this issue.

This is legislation I agreed to sponsor for Senator Bore. The amendment proposed by Barnes is considered friendly.

I used to have some small concerns about this, but as other more experienced representatives seem to support it and, as Matt says, it is confusing to have two different rules (and I definitely agree with that), I'll be supporting this. ^^

No reason not to support this

Sorry for being a little late.

I asked cynic to introduce this because for too many elections active and eager candidates are kept off the ballot because they declared too late. Not only does this discourage people it also makes the ballot a mess of write ins.

Hopefully the assembly can pass this :)
