Title: Susana Martinez's Strategy
Post by: CountyTy90 on July 24, 2014, 11:00:39 PM
She's often listed as a contender for 2016, whether it be Prez or Vice Prez. But you really never hear much about her... She's not in the news like Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Jan Brewer, etc. are
(which may be a good thing...). From where I sit here in Illinois, she seems to be doing an okay job (at least) governing New Mexico?

She has a lot of advantages; namely being a Latina and a Republican in a Democratic state. And I personally liked her address to the RNC in 2012.

I guess my question is, why is she "laying low"? Shouldn't she be more "out there" if she wants to go farther? And really... does she want to?

Her speech at the RNC was dreadful. She sounded nervous (voters react to a nervous voice greatly), and her story was boring.

I don't see her going beyond New Mexico.

She has a lot of issues with ethics a few scandals surrounding her. She reminds me a lot of Nikki Haley and her situation in SC.

I don't see her going beyond New Mexico.

I remember during the 2012 election Fox did a piece on her and she said that she wouldn't accept a position if Romney offered; she has a special needs sister whom she takes care of, so she may not go any further...

Palin had a Down syndrome baby that was supposedly keeping her in Alaska.

She has definitively said she won't run for president. She remains a dark horse choice for VP, but personally I see her challenging Sen. Heinrich (D-NM) in 2018 instead.

She strikes me as the type who would unravel pretty quickly under a constant national spotlight.

There is room for a little leeway there as that baby probably wasn't even Palin's but rather her daughter's...

She's not that impressive, guys. I listen to her all the time. Her eloquence in extended conversation is Sarah Palin level. It's not as noticeable to casual observers because she's a moderate, but it would be exposed on the national scene.

Yes, but Martinez actually refused to be vetted by the Romney campaign.

You're only saying that because you're running against her.

I meant will she come to 2016 out of the middle of nowhere and be a Presidential/Vice Presidential candidate? Or is the Governor of New Mexico all she'll ever be?

We don't know what the vetting process will dig up about her and she's far from a clean politician.

She may be vetted more than Thune and all the other GOP choices, not not more like Haley would.
