Some of their changes would sound all too familiar to Americans. The teaching of Darwin's theory of evolution has been formally banned. Social studies standards have scrubbed references to secularism and Arab nationalism - deemed akin to polytheism - in favor of a traditionalist, Islam-based approach. Meanwhile, gender segregation has been taken further; rather than simply mandate single-sex classes, new rules require that female teachers only teach female students and male teachers only teach male students. Regimes that control education fit it to their ideology. What else is new.
