The election was three days ago...why do they have so many outstanding votes?

Yeah, this. I don't know why it takes California so long to count votes.

He's at 59% now with 1.65 million votes left to count. He'll easily cross 60.

Such an underwhelming margin.

Because there are lots of votes to count. This is nothing new, it happens every cycle.

With this electorate, it's an epic landslide.

I almost spit out my tea reading that... are you sure there are still votes still to be counted in california? why does it take that long to count there?

Also i hope if nobody minds telling me if theres a website that is still updating the count for this race.

He should run for senate when his term is over in 2018.

Also Gavin Newsome should replace Barbara Boxer in 2014 for the senate seat.

Lots of Cali Democrats have been complaining that the two incumbent senators have made the party stale there.

Newsom needs to stay on in 2018 for governor.

And it's time for a fresh face to succeed Feinstein, besides Brown didn't exactly do so well last time he tried for Senate anyway.

Out of all the statewide Dems, I like Chiang the best for a Senate race.

California Dems have deep bench for 2018 and any possible Senate vacancies. I look forward to the primary.

Only thing is we don't have a primary any more. We have top two, and it's to the party's advantage to just run one major candidate.

I think every State ought to implement that top-two system.

Horrible system. The top-two systems prevents the democratic voters from picking their candidate in a primary, and instead gets whatever candidate was handpicked by the party leaders to stave off the risk of vote-splitting putting two Republicans on the ballot.

I agree. So what happens in 2018, if AG Kamela Harris and LG Gavin Newsom both seek California's top job?

One or both of them will make it to the runoff and win.

Brown barely campaigned, ran no ads, no GOTV so this is what was expected.

The party will do their best to avoid that since that's not good with top two. There's a good chance we could have a Senate seat opening up in 2016 or 2018, though.

Is the vote counting officially completed or is there still a chance of Brown getting >60%?

That means my fiance (who will then be my husband) will have a lot of fights over this race. :) And Harris would win.

On November 20 new votes came in. The margin for Brown widened, but he's still below 60%.
Is a result beyond 60% still possible?

According to California's Secretary of State it's pretty close right now. Brown is yet at 59.9%. http://vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/governor/

59.91987% to be exact.

I think Brown may pass the 60% mark.

I feel bad that my first prediction here was so bad (even though I'm hardly alone in that). If only I signed up in 2012, my first would've been so much better...

It rounds to 60.0%, but it looks like he'll end up just under 60.00%.
