In like 2018, if that. If Rauner is thrown out of office over this, his Lt. Gov. will take the office.

This repulsive Rauner is certainly not the People's Pat.

Does Quinn have any scandals that might get him indicted? Let's see if Illinois can get four imprisoned governors in a row.

An investigation into his use of an anti-violence program as a slush fund for his 2010 campaign started in October but it will take a couple of years for him to join his buddy rod

Does the office of Governor of Illinois come with a complimentary soap on a rope?

To be fair, he hasn't been indicted and likely wouldn't be on these charges.

I assume the FBI starts investigating Illinois governors the moment they take office at this point.

Quote from: Illinois General Assembly website
Sec. 1. (a) In the event that the Governor, for any of the reasons specified in Article V, Section 6 of the Constitution of the State of Illinois, is not able to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of his office, such powers and duties of the office shall be exercised by the officer next in line of succession, in the order named as follows:
    (1)  The Lieutenant Governor;
    (2)  The elected Attorney General;
    (3)  The elected Secretary of State;
    (4)  The elected Comptroller;
    (5)  The elected Treasurer;
    (6)  The President of the Senate;
    (7)  The Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Maybe we will have Governor Madigan :D

Before everyone gets too excited, the article points out that it is the donors under investigation, not the campaign. The law prohibits private managers of state funds from donating to the officials who make appointments to the boards that oversee the funds. If a donor had active involvement in the part of their company that manages the fund then there is a violation.

It's not a violation for the candidate, since a candidate once informed of the illegal source can return the donation. Blago's crime was that he solicited donations with a clear intent to perform an official act in exchange for those donations.

Aww, don't rain on this hilarious bipartisan parade.

A possibly corrupt Illinois governor? NO WAY. That never happens. It's one of the few bipartisan things that they do well in the Land of Lincoln...

I have a feeling Rauner will be the Chris Christie of Illinois; a GOP governor in a liberal state that infuriates both liberals and conservatives with his pragmatism.  Because of that, they see him as a threat and will do whatever they can to destroy his reputation, even before he becomes governor.

I have a feeling Rauner will be the Chris Christie of Illinois; a GOP governor in a liberal state that infuriates both liberals and conservatives with his pragmatism.  Because of that, they see him as a threat and will do whatever they can to destroy his reputation, even before he becomes governor.

A few things:

1. Christie doesn't need anyone else's help destroying his reputation, his corruption, obnoxiousness, and general awfulness have more than done the trick.

2. Christie wasn't the victim of some sort of vast left-wing conspiracy, no matter how much you wish it were the case.

3. The idea that either the New Jersey Democratic or Republican Party establishment saw Christie as an enemy, let alone a major threat is beyond laughable.  In New Jersey, the party bosses on both sides have one concern and that is "can I make money working with you."  Christie was corrupt enough that the answer was a resounding "yes!"  As a result, most major elements of the New Jersey Democratic establishment either stayed neutral in 2013 or actively worked to get Christie re-elected from behind the scenes (much as the New York Republican establishment did for Cuomo in 2014).  There's a reason Buono was the only Democrat who ran against Christie: the Democratic bosses made sure the strong potential candidates stayed out of the race (which isn't to say this is the only reason Christie won re-election, but it helped a lot).
