All convention votes will be held here.

When we get some votes, I'll post them below.  Until then, the thread will be locked.

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, we now have some votes that I would like to bring to the floor.  These votes will last roughly 96 hours, until late Monday evening (Memorial Day)/early Tuesday morning.

Please either vote Yea or Nay on all of these proposed changes to the Platform/Bylaws.

In the case of our platform on Abortion, please either vote for Option 1, Option 2, or None to keep the platform as it presently is.

Here are the votes:

1.  Shall we approve the new Bylaws that were proposed in these three posts? (listed below)

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=22563.msg484204#msg484204

2.  Shall we approve the platform changes on the subject of Drugs within the platform?  Here is the proposed changes (changes in bold):

Drugs

We believe that the so-called “War on Drugs” has done little to stop the supply or demand for illegal narcotics.  We support the decriminalization of marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes.

We do believe that drugs have a disastrous impact on our society, but that government simply cannot take on the responsibilities that people should take on for themselves. Instead of investing in punishment for drug offenders, we should invest in educating our children of the dangers of drug abuse.

3.  Shall we approve the addition to the platform on the subject of Criminal Justice?

Criminal Justice

We believe in a strong criminal justice system and support all endeavors to make Atlasia a safe place from intruders and trolls who wish to damage and slander this forum.  To those who wish to destroy our way of life, punishment must be swift and just and its application must be firm and unyielding.

However, we also believe that all accused criminals must be given their rights under the law.  We therefore believe in the rights of defendants to be "innocent until proven guilty" regardless of crime, and believe that all defendants have ample opportunity to due process in a defense of the charges brought against them.

4.  Shall we approve the platform changes on the subject of Abortion within the platform?  Here are two suggested changes (changes in bold).  Please either vote for Option 1, Option 2 or None in order to keep the abortion platform at its present definition.

Option 1:  (Sam Spade proposal)

Abortion

We believe that too often this issue has been marginalized to two divisive and uncompromising sides. We believe that abortion towards the end of the term of pregnancy is clearly murder; therefore we staunchly oppose "partial-birth abortion" and believe in limiting abortions to the first trimester only, except in cases where the life of the mother is directly affected. We do support the release of the "morning-after" pill as an early means of birth control and we do support the ready availability of preventative birth control to all persons of legal age.

Option 2: (Future Prez proposal)

Abortion

We believe that too often this issue has been marginalized to two divisive and uncompromising sides. We believe that abortion towards the end of the term of pregnancy is clearly murder; therefore we staunchly oppose "partial-birth abortion." As for first trimester abortions, we realize that a person's view on this coincides to their belief as to "when life begins."  Therefore, as a party we will leave it up to our individual members to make their own determination about how they feel on this issue. We do support the release and general availability of various methods of birth control to all persons of legal age without interference from the federal or regional government.

By a majority of Union membership (7 members out of 13), these provisions have automatically passed:

2.  Drugs:  Yea, by a margin of 7-1.
3.  Criminal Justice:  Yea, by a margin of 8-0.
4.  Abortion:  Option 1, by a margin of 8-0.

Question 1 needs either 2 more aye votes or 5 more nay votes (3/4 voting in favor, or 1/4 in opposition) before Tuesday to pass or fail for good, so voting is still open on this question.

I have one more vote on a Platform Amendment that I forgot to start Tuesday (whoops).  Changes are in bold:

New Vote[/b]

Education (proposed by Cash, FuturePrez and MHS2002)

Overall, we support the transfer of educational decisions from the federal to the local level.  We encourage regional governments to support and encourage quality public schools open to all families; however, we believe that it is a supreme contradiction that wealthy parents get a choice of where to send their kids to school while other families do not get such a choice. Regions should provide educational access vouchers for low-income families to have choice in education and formation of charter schools should be encouraged by regional governments.

Please vote either Aye, Nay or Abstain.

As to the schedule of votes left.  Once King/John Dibble figure out their arrangement by Friday, we'll start the Presidential nomination process.  At that same time, I will start a vote on the National Chairman and any Regional Chairman votes potentially (though I see none on the horizon).

After that, I will invite the nominated parties to speak and we will wrap things up.

As for right now, the votes still open are for:
Mideast Senate
Midwest Senate
Education Platform Amendment

(for SE members) Southeast Senate endorsement

This time around, the Governor's election is the same date as the Federal election, the third weekend of June, so we can have an endorsement vote anytime.

As I read the rules, since the SE has more than one member, we are a Resional Association, and only SE CUP members may vote. But it may be that we don't technically have a "regional association" and the national membership can vote. Sam?

The SE branch of the CUPANA is a Regional Association, and therefore can conduct its own endorsements on any regional race.  Cash can start votes on those races at any time he wishes to.  It is under the five-day mark before an election, so I could have taken over the vote to be among National membership if I wanted to, but I didn't, so the long and short of it is this is a SE Regional Association endorsement to be conducted among the 4 SE Association members (me, Cash, htmldon and The PrezMex).

Since Dubya has a majority of the membership in support, he will win the endorsement anyway and this vote can be closed as soon as Cash wants to.

As a rule, any National Association votes will be opened by me, any Regional Association endorsements will be opened by the Regional Chairman, unless special circumstances apply.

Thanks, Sam.

Guys, even though your votes aren't official, it's good to know you agree with us in the SE.

With a majority of Southeast members voting, I'll close this vote and announce our endorsement of Governor Dubya for re-election.
