Title: Burr's Southwest Empire
Post by: WVdemocrat on October 24, 2016, 05:13:52 PM
I'm trying to find what the exact territorial extent of Aaron Burr's imagined "empire" in the southwest would have been. I know he had his co-conspirator put in charge of part of the Louisiana Territory so I would imagine he wanted part of that, but I've also read that he wanted to annex the Old Northwest (Ohio Country), I've read that he wanted to invade Mexico and either annex it entirely or just its northern parts (which I guess would be like California and Texas), and on top of that I've also heard that he wanted to overthrow the government in Washington and claim that as well. Can anyone with more knowledge of this offer any clarity here? Was Burr himself even entirely certain of what he wanted to do? His ambitions strike me as similar to Hitler's and Napoleon's in that they are ever evolving and sort of just cater to what he's feeling like annexing that week.

Also; is there any indication of what sort of government his empire would have? I've always sort of imagined it being a Caesarist (based on Burr's ego) but also overwhelmingly agrarian country (based simply on the geography of the land Burr was interested in annexing) but idk. I sort of imagine it being similar to the Soviet Union with a leader similar in personality to Caesar, Napoleon, Hitler, and perhaps even the Kim dynasty of DPRK. I don't know that there's any historical indications as to what form of government Burr would have created.

He would have forbidden Alexander Hamilton from entering. :P
Would Burr make himself King?
