1952: Estes Kefauver (I really dislike his Tipper Gore-style crusades, but he was better than his opponents) 1956: Estes Kefauver 1960: Wayne Morse 1964: Lyndon Johnson 1968: Eugene McCarthy 1972: Ed Muskie 1976: Frank Church 1980: Abstain 1984: Abstain 1988: Jesse Jackson (could be persuaded to vote for Gephardt or Simon though). 1992: Jerry Brown 1996: Abstain 2000: Bill Bradley 2004: What a weak field. Probably a protest vote for Dennis Kucinich. Maybe John Edwards without hindsight. 2008: Kucinich protest vote. 2012: Abstain 2016: Bernie Sanders (actually the best candidate initially was Martin O'Malley, but his campaign went nowhere).
