Title: Future of America
Post by: MasterJedi on December 18, 2005, 04:38:41 PM
Well it's my turn to start one of these, we'll see how for I go and what I do but it should be a ways. Enjoy! :)

2007

The Presidential primaries heat up as the Democrats are split between the liberal base and moderate elements while the Republicans have distanced themselves from President Bush even though he has an approval rating in the mid to upper forties. Pundits consider both primaries to be extremely close.

2008

After a string of early primary wins Senator Hillary Clinton emerges as the victor and chooses former Governor Mark Warner for the VP slot. Though it is extremely close the impressive early wins in Iowa and New Hampshire gives former WI Governor and Sec. of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson the nomination as he swiftly chooses Senator George Allen for his VP slot. The polls show an extremely close race going in to election day. While the popular vote holds true to this the electoral vote isn’t as close.

Tommy Thompson/George Allen (R): 307
Hillary Clinton/Mark Warner (D): 231

Here's an update. :)

2009

Troop reductions begin in Iraq as half the troops come home. The country is mostly stable with a few sporadic attacks every so often. With troops coming home Thompson’s approval raises a little to 58%. Then in a shocking announcement Senator Russ Feingold of WI introduces an amendment that repeals the 22nd amendment and allows Presidents to run for as many terms as they like. It passes Congress by the end of the year.

2010

All but a thousand troops are brought home, the ones that aren’t are to remain there permanently. Thomson’s approval raises again 61%. By the years end only one more state is required to pass the 28th amendment.

2011

The world is relatively quiet until May when Israel bombs Iranian nuclear sites. Iran had been gearing up for war and Israel had been getting nervous. Iran along with most of the Middle East goes into a frenzy and President Thompson tells any nation that any attack on Israel will be considered an attack on the US. Iran backs down after going to the brink. The last state ratifies the 28th amendment on the same day that Senator Feingold announces his intention to run for President. President Thompson he will seek re-election as well.

2012

In fierce primaries Feingold comes out on top and chooses Mark Warner again for Vice President. Polls show that Thompson has a comfortable lead but that slowly starts to whittle away as November draws near. Thankfully to both sides this year is also another quiet one. On election day Wisconsin becomes very close as Thompson wins it by thirty five votes! Besides that though this is Thompson’s day as he gains one more state than in 2008.

Tommy Thompson/George Allen (R): 328
Russ Feingold/Mark Warner (D): 210

An interesting scenario.

Title: Re: Future of America

And another 4 years. :)

2013

Thompson and Allen are re-inaugurated. The Democratic Party is in turmoil with moderates trying to gain the party back from the far left. They fail for now. After years of being average to moderately good the economy starts going higher. A bill passes the Senate that would construct a three fence barrio between the US and Mexico while allowing all illegal’s already in the US, minus felons, to stay along with allowing more people to immigrate in. President Thompson signs it and construction begins.

2014

By this time new space shuttles and equipment has been designed and tested. The return to the moon and the construction of the first lunar base will be scheduled for July 15, four years before China will be able to. Democrats lose seats in Congress to the dismay of the far left whose control is slowly crumbling.

2015

The lunar launch the previous year was a successful and the construction is on schedule. President Thompson announces he will run for re-election. There are some people wary about this but Thompson goes unchallenged. The Democratic primary is packed as the inter-party war continuous.

2016

The far left wins again to the dismay of the moderates. Al Gore wins and chooses John Kerry to be VP. Though both are really old men they are heroes of the far left and they believe they are their saviors. Moderates and independents gag on this ticket and flock to President Thompson by the hundreds, guaranteeing him another four years and a landslide victory.

()

Tommy Thompson/George Allen (R): 392
Al Gore/John Kerry (D): 146

With this landslide loss moderates are able to regain the leadership positions of the Democratic Party.

I agree. The Democrats barring breakup or disaster will not stay out of power for that long. 12 years max, but no more.

I like how you had Feingold repeal the 22nd amendment; that certainly wasn't just so you could have three terms of Thompson. :P

Another update. See people, you must have patience. :)

2017

Thompson and Allen are re-inagurated again. Thompson announces at this time that the boarder fence has been completed after a four month delay. Illegal immigration starts to slowly slack off though it’s still a big problem. Some people in Congress consider allowing a vote in Puerto Rico for statehood but nothing comes of it as this time. Chechnya finally gains its independence from Russia, a mostly democratic government is formed.

2018

After much construction and many launches the first lunar base is completed, work begins on the second. A new space bill passes Congress which calls for a couple of satallite and telescope stations along with another lunar base on the far side of hte moon. China’s moon shuttle explodes in the upper atmosphere setting them back years. Kim Jong Il is assassinated by a mob on December 31.

2019

The North Korean government falls apart with massive riots convulsing the country. South Korea sends troops north, calming the country and uniting the two Korea’s after over fifty years. President Thompson announces he won’t run for re-election and he encourages future Presidents to only go for three terms.

2020

After being held out for twelve years the conservative part of the GOP gives the nod to Rick Santorum and Jeb Bush. Though the far left puts up a good fight the Democrats nominate Evan Bayh and Mark Warner. Santorum campaigns that his party has taken the country in a mostly right direction the last twenty years and for no more space spending. Bayh goes for a moderate Democratic platoform along with staying the courst in space. On election night:

Rick Santorum/Jeb Bush (R): 163
Evan Bayh/Mark Warner (D): 375

Good story Master Jedi.  Interesting reading.

If a President could in fact seek more than two terms, my own view is that for the third election, they would likely choose a different running mate for Vice President other than the one they had already for eight years.  That would help to renew or reinvigorate the ticket, if you will.  I can't imagine anyone wanting to be Vice President for more than eight years.

I do like the fact that in real life the President is limited to two terms, or two consecutive terms, however that may be interpreted.

I don't think its realistic to have the same people at the top of the dogpile in 2020 as are there today.

Title: Re: Future of America
Post by: MasterJedi on May 21, 2006, 02:08:10 PM
I'll be continuing this now, and I have some new ideas which will make themselves known in the next update. Enjoy!

2021

Bayh is inaugurated spectacularly with much flourish and fanfare around the country from the long held out of power Democrats. Bayh immediately gets to work on a national health care system but Congress is deadlocked, nobody will budge and the bill dies. Large funding is also passed to rebuild the highway system of America, much to the dismay of the right. Work is finished on the second lunar base, work on the third begins.

2022

Bayh begins an around the world tour with many stops in Europe, Africa and Asia. Everything is going well until Asia where Bayh becomes dangerously ill in India and is rushed to the hospital. He dies a few days later from tainted water shocking the nation and the world. An investigation is launched and no wrongdoing or harmful intentions were found. Mark Warner is inaugurated as President as he finishes out Bayh’s tour. When he returns to Washington he chooses North Carolina Senator Matt Harlem to replace him as VP. The rest of the year is quiet as the world mourns the loss of President Bayh as his funeral is held in DC. The results in the mid-term elections are shocking, every incumbent wins and no changes are made. Congress remains deadlocked.

2023

The third lunar base is finished in record time on the far side of the moon for observation and experimentation. Three more are planned to bring the total up to six but the public is now beginning to sour on the idea as more tax money is needed. In an effort to save public opinion Warner reduces the base total by one, saving billions. The world is still peacefully quiet with no major problems occurring. Warner announces he’ll run for President but for only one term because of his age. After that he’ll be retiring to Virginia.

2024

The Republicans want to return to power but have a lot stacked up against them, most importantly a popular Democratic President whose approval rating stands at 58% and no viable candidates. They eventually choose newly elected Oregon Governor Steven Wilmont and he chooses Alabama Lieutenant Governor Jack Chickaw. By late October it’s clear that Wilmont/Chickaw can’t win as Warner/Harlem cruise to win. They do lose Oregon and Indiana(because Indiana was only winnable for Bayh) but pick up more states than Bayh won last time.

(
)

Steven Wilmont/Jack Chickaw (R): 143
Mark Warner/Matt Harlem (D): 395

2025

Mark Warner is re-inaugurated and has an impressive 62% approval rating. The liberal-moderate fractions in the Democratic Party begin to squabble more. Each faction wants complete control of the leadership, especially the far-left liberals who believe they are the purists. The moderate faction points to the fact that no liberal candidate has won in decades while the liberal faction says that they hold most of the Democratic seats in Congress but with Warner as President the moderates keep mostly in control of the leadership. Some far-left liberals talk about taking their faction and joining the Green party, they decline en masse because of the Democratic losses that would create.

2026

Communists gain control of Panama and close the Panama Canal to shipping. Reluctantly Warner sends in troops to recapture the canal but to leave the democratically elected government alone. Though Panama objects they can do little about it while hawks on both sides of the aisle demand that Warner “finish the job he started”. While Warner doesn’t do this he officially reclaims the Panama Canal as US territory. This helps the Democrats gain a 5 seat majority in the House and a 2 seat majority in the Senate.

2027

The first practical hydrogen/oxygen cars are unveiled. Though they are pricey they will be able to solve the oil problem in under a decade if everyone converts sooner rather than later. With a few Democrats crossing over drilling is finally opened in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to get us a little more off foreign oil until the hydrogen/oxygen cars take over. As Warner said before he declines to run for re-election due to his age.

2028

Many Democrats run but they finally choose liberal New York Governor Nelson Crane for President and moderate Nevada Senator Deuce Man for VP. The Republicans have an equally bruising primary season but eventually uniting behind Alabama Lieutenant Governor and former VP Candidate Jack Chickaw and Mississippi Senator Burt Lansing. The race is tight but in the end the Democrats win by the barest margin.

(
)

Jack Chickaw/Burt Lansing (R): 254
Nelson Crane/Deuce Man (D): 284

After the election Crane makes a major speech in which he says we should tear down the boarder fence, return the Panama Canal to Panama and pay reparations to them for taking it along with creating a universal health care system with raising taxes massively on the rich. His approval rating falls to 41% before even entering office.

2029

Crane is inaugurated and surprises many of pundits by actually going through with his plans though he’s stopped short almost immediately when his plan of returning the Panama Canal fails in the Senate with a vote of 3 in favor to 97 against. Crane then goes on national television and says the Senate has done wrong and demands that US forces leave the canal area. Congress refuses and the military actually goes forward and topples the Communist government further weakening Crane.

2030

VP Man distances himself from Crane though is still working behind the scene for the administration. Crane next goes for the destruction of the boarder fence though this fails as well 5-95. Crane is furious again but he can do nothing about it. The last two lunar bases are now finished after many delays. The Republicans win back the House but the Democrats keep a one seat majority in the Senate.

2031

Universal Health Care is what Crane tackles in this third year and it actually has a chance of passing. After two votes the same bill is rejected by the House and passes in the Senate. With nobody willing to budge the bill failure is only a matter of time. Crane announces he will run for re-election but VP Man announces he will run for the position to save the Democratic Party. A 29th amendment passes Congress and is ratified by the states by the end of the year. It makes it so that for a candidate for President to win he just needs to have the most electoral votes, not a majority. Some very vocal Congressman are complaining about the Electoral College, to appease them but still keep it the 29th amendment which has whoever wins the most Electoral Votes wins the Presidential election, there need to no electoral majority.

2032

After a very tough and bruising primary Deuce Man wins the Democratic nomination by winning only one more delegate than Crane. Undaunted Crane runs his own incumbent campaign choosing Montpelier Mayor Bruce Revan for his VP while Man chooses Washington Congressman Joseph Streeder for VP. He says he’s still a Democrat but running independently because of “the betrayal by his party”. The Republicans have an uncompetitive primary choosing for VP candidate Burt Lansing for President and Former Nebraska Governor Curt Warner for VP. A surprise happens in this election though as a large libertarian faction in the Republican Party unites with the actual Libertarian Party. They nominate current Tomah Mayor Douglas Thompson, son of former President Tommy Thompson, for President and Walter Reid of Massachusetts for VP hoping to capture on former President Thompson’s popularity. The race is extremely tight as Election Day dawns.

Burt Lansing/Curt Warner (R): 203
Deuce Man/Joseph Streeder (D): 68
Nelson Crane/Bruce Revan (ID): 230
Douglas Thompson/Walter Reid (L): 42

I have another update, yay! Come on people, comment! :)

2033

Crane is re-inaugurated, much to the horror of most of the country. He says now that he’s won he “accepts the apology of his party for betraying him”. He then announces he’ll be trying to do what he tried last term, get the US on the “right path”. He tries to push everything through in the first year but with the Republicans regaining Congress they all fail spectacularly.

2034

Crane’s sixth year in office he begins to strengthen ties with the UN such as trying to tie in military tribunals. Most politicians erupt in outrage at the thought of the US not having that power. After this also fails Crane goes into a tirade on TV blasting all political parties, including moderates in the Democratic Party. His approval rating falls to 15%.

2035

Unrest begins in Saudi Arabia after many years of quiet foreign policy. Two forces begin to become increasingly vocal and violent, one is pro democracy and the other is pro Islam. With increasing attacks and the worry of oil being affected the stock market plummets. By late summer as civilians are starting to be caught in the crossfire as many die and even more are wounded. Crane announces the US won’t do anything as it’s not our problem. Hawks on both sides blast him though polls show that the public doesn’t support intervention. Stocks do begin to rise though as oil production isn’t affected with the thousands of Saudi troops guarding the oil fields.

2036

Even with polls showing that Crane has a 15% approval rating he announces he will be running for re-election with Bruce Revan. The Republicans, Libertarians and even most Democrats agree that Crane needs to go down, now. They all know what happened last time when they ran a candidate so they choose to run a coalition ticket. Republican George P. Bush is chosen to be President  while Deuce Man gets another chance to be VP. It is also agreed that the Cabinet will be a split of the three parties. Crane is furious when he hears this, and is absolutely livid when he even loses the Democratic Primary to George P. Bush and the collation ticket. Crane is then forced to run again as an “Independent Democrat”.  Polls show that it isn’t even close as Crane goes down in a massive landslide losing with 15% of the vote and winning only two states and DC.

George P. Bush/Deuce Man (R, L, D Coalition): 520
Nelson Crane/Bruce Revan (ID): 18

Title: Re: Future of America
Post by: MasterJedi on June 11, 2006, 05:50:45 PM
Here's an update, and come on people, comment! :)

2037

Bush and Man are sworn in while President Crane refuses to come to the ceremony. Now that Crane is defeated some are worried that he’s Hispanic and might be weak on illegal immigration. He immediately proves his detractors wrong as he makes a speech in favor of the boarder fence and gets through Congress rather quickly more funding for the northern boarder.

2038

After being quiet for over a year the Saudi Civil War heats up again as all sides begin a new bloodbath in the streets. They also begin to attack the oil drilling stations prompting President Bush to send in thousands of troops to protect them, which works wonderfully. Oil production continues as normal while the rest of the country is still convulsing with fighting. President Bush announces that all sides are evil since they’re all attacking civilians and he refuses to take any action and let the civil war run its course. This move is immensely popular. Republicans gain a slim majority in the House.

2039

Congress passes a bill allowing Puerto Rico to again vote on statehood in December. The civil war continues to worsen as the US and UN continue to not enter though as the bloodshed rises people are beginning to change their opinion on it and believe the US should go in and take out all sides and install a democracy. In December Puerto Rico votes for statehood and chooses to become the 51st state by 52-48% and enters the US with 8 electoral votes.

2040

President Bush announces he’s running for re-election and extends a hand to the Democrats to keep the coalition going but they refuse. (The Libertarians have basically disappeared, the main bulk of them returned to the Republican party while the extreme ones stayed in the party, returning it to third party status) Bush chooses Libertarian Douglas Thompson of Wisconsin regardless. Deuce Man again secures the Democratic nomination relatively easily and chooses Iowa Governor Max Burns. The race isn’t too close however as Bush cruises in to an easily re-election thanks to previous Republican areas and Hispanics voting en masse for him.

()

George P. Bush/Douglas Thompson (R): 387
Deuce Man/Max Burns (D): 159

Polls show that it isn’t even close as Crane goes down in a massive landslide losing with 15% of the vote and winning only two states and DC.

I don't think it's terribly likely that any states would be won at all if he got only 15% of the vote.  McGovern got 37.52% of the vote and only won one single state.

And, an update as promised. :) And I want comments!  *NOTE* Puerto Rico won't go on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans *NOTE*

2041

Bush is re-inaugurated with VP Thompson. A pro-democracy has arisen in the Saudi Civil War which refuses to attack the civilian population and has been gaining a lot of ground, controlling a quarter of the country and bringing peace in those areas by mid-spring. President Bush and Congress throw support behind this faction, supplying it with weapons and non-military aid. By the end of the year the pro-democracy faction has gained complete control of the country and set up a new government. The US withdraws troops from the oil fields  but keeps supplying aid.

2042

Though hydrogen/oxygen cars are very common now they are still very expensive and are quite costly to repair. Because of this President Bush proposes that there should be another set of cars, those that run entirely on products that are grown and replaced.  Plans begin moving to have sugar used in the south and corn used for the rest of the country. Further showing his moderate side Bush proposes a Universal Healthcare system for children and those below the poverty line who are unemployed. A coalition of Democrats and moderate Republicans pass it in the Senate but it gets stalled in the House. Come election time Democrats take a 22 seat majority in the House and no gains are seen in the Senate.

2043

When the new Congress meets for the first time the House immediately passes the Universal Healthcare Act giving the nation its first healthcare coverage. Liberals want full coverage though most Americans are happy that something has been done and Bush’s popularity rises. A complete peace has fallen over Saudi Arabia as it has been stable for well over a year. It moves into close ties with the US and the West.

2044

President Bush is extremely popular, standing at 80% approval. He announces early that he will be running for re-election. The Democrats know they have no chance of winning the election with those numbers so they make another coalition deal with the Republicans to have a mixed cabinet. In June VP Thompson announces he will run for the open Senate seat in Wisconsin and won’t run again for Vice President. With this slot open Bush chooses Deuce Man for this spot again. On election day the Bush/Man ticket wins 83% of the vote and Douglas Thompson is indeed able to win a seat in the Senate. Bush wins all 50 states but DC, unwilling to vote for a Republican, gives its votes to the Green Party ticket of former President and Vice President Nelson Crane and Bruce Revan.

(
)

George P. Bush/Deuce Man (R/D Coalition): 543
Nelson Crane/Bruce Revan (G): 3

And another update, and please comment! :) *NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans *NOTE*

2045

Bush is re-inaugurated for his third term. In the Middle East trouble is brewing once again. Iran and Syria, long quiet, have been gearing up for war. They join with Lebanon, Yemen and the many terrorist groups in the area such as Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. declare war on Israel. Meanwhile President Bush has formed an alliance of Western countries to combat them including the Middle Eastern countries of Jordan, Iraq, Afghanistan Kuwait, Arabia (since the civil war and the overthrow of the Saud family they are now known only as Arabia), etc. War breaks out on Christmas.

2046

Conventional battles are waged throughout Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran launches waves of missiles against the allied countries but they are mostly spared thanks to the anti-ballistic missile shields installed years earlier. The war is supported by Americans across the political spectrum except for those on both extremes. By the end of the year Lebanon has been conquered by Israel and Yemen by Arabia while Syria and Iran have been greatly weakened. Republicans make minimal gains in the midterms.

2047

Israel officially annexes Lebanon while Arabia annexes Yemen. President Bush comes out in support while the other countries don’t seem to mind. By the end of summer Syria and Iran have been conquered and temporarily governments installed as they start along the path to democracy. Since he’s getting up there in age President Bush announces he won’t seek re-election even though he’d like to. This opens up the floodgates as hordes of people announce for both parties.

2048

While the primaries are ongoing the alliance members in the Middle East have finished mopping up the terrorist organizations involved in the war and peace is mostly obtained. From some of the captured terrorist combatants they learn that the US’s biggest enemy from the past, Osama Bin Laden, has died decades before. In the political world Deuce Man is easily able to secure the Democratic nomination and chooses Arkansas Governor Jim Piedmont for VP. The Republicans take longer to decide their candidate but they eventually settle on LA Mayor Brian Williams and Wyoming Representative Cynthia Carlton for VP. On election day:

(
)

Brian Williams/Cynthia Carlton (R): 216
Deuce Man/Jim Piedmont (D): 330

The third time is the charm as Deuce Man finally becomes President while bringing in one more Democratic Senator to give the Democrats a 58-41-1 Senate majority.

And another update, need comments! *NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2049

Deuce man is sworn in as President. He makes a long speech about how thankful he is for the voters to finally choose him. He promises bipartisanship and cites his working with Republicans. Tensions begin to rise in Europe between France and Germany from the mysterious death of the recently elected French President. The democracies set up in Iran and Syria seems to have stuck with sporadic insurgent activities. A treaty is signed between Arabia and Oman in which Oman agrees to be annexed by Arabia.

2050

With tempers flaring President Man and the UK’s Conservative Prime Minister David Burke fly to Switzerland to try and mediate an agreement between France and Germany. Early on the first day Man and Burke and shunned and told to go home. They leave the continent disgusted and leave the countries to work it out on their own. Three amendments pass Congress by the end of the year, one that bans flag burning, one that bans abortion except in cases of rape, incest or if the mother’s life is in danger and one that bans gay marriage. Liberals around the country are enraged and try to turn to the states to defeat all three of these amendments. France declares war on Germany after their President’s death was confirmed to have been a German assassination. French tank and troops enter Germany.

2051

President Man makes it clear on New Years Day that the US will stay out of the French-German War. France suffers a tremendous defeat just over the Rhine River and have to retreat into France itself while Germany plans its own invasion. The abortion ban amendment is ratified by 2/3rds of the states by the end of May making it the 29th amendment. In October President Man announces he will run for re-election, at the exact same time Germany launches its long awaited offense into France. Within a few weeks the French army is shattered and its air force and navy destroyed. Germany captures Paris and announces it hasn’t decided what to do with France yet.

2052

President Man calls for Germany to just leave France but Germany ignores them on it though they still haven’t decided what to do yet. It places France under temporary occupation. During the Republican primaries it’s a repeat the last election as the Republicans again nominate the ticket of Brian Williams and Cynthia Carlton. With the onset of fall President Man has a massive heart attack making Jim Piedmont become acting President for a few days. The night that President Man comes home he makes a national televised announcement saying that he’s dropping out of the Presidential race because of his health and is greatly saddened. He gives the spot to Jim Piedmont to try and win his own race but says he will stay on as President for the rest of his term. VP Piedmont chooses Representative Randy Stevenson of Texas for the VP slot. On election day:

(
)

Brian Williams/Cynthia Carlton (R): 160
 Jim Piedmont/Randy Stevenson (D): 386

The Piedmont campaign shocks the political nation by being the first Democrat to carry Texas since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

A couple of questions:

1. Why is the political landscape exactly the same in 2052 as it is in 2008?  Forty years is a long time, and I don't think that would happen.

2. With Democrats having such a large majority in the Senate, how would those amendments pass, especially gay marriage and abortion?

And just as a note, it takes 3/4 of the states to pass an amendment, something that would never happen for abortion.

Unless France has a 6th Republic by then or the President elected in 2047 resigns/dies, we're not having elections in 2049.

Update! ;D *NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2053

Jim Piedmont is inaugurated and promises bipartisan cooperation. Besides creating a budget President Piedmont doesn’t propose any legislation and doesn’t do any traveling. Middle Eastern countries begin talking about creating a great democracy to give the Middle East a greater position of power in the world. Germany let France go free even though some hardliners want to keep the whole country. Germany forces a settlement for millions of dollars a year.

2054

Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Egypt form the Middle Eastern Republic. Though it is mostly seen as positive some worry about such a large country having control over that much oil. President Piedmont again makes no foreign trips and does nothing legislative wise letting the Senate take the lead. He does plan two trips for the following year, to Canada and Mexico. Cynthia Carlton becomes Senator from Wyoming in the mid-terms. President Piedmont shows his blue dog side and he funnels most of the money to conservative Democrats.

2055

Sudan and Libya agree to join the MER. Israel signs a treaty of friendship and nonaggression with the new country and it looks like tensions begin to ease as the West Bank and the Gaza strip join in June. President Piedmont’s trips goodwill trips go well and once he returns to the US he announces he’ll run for re-election. Some people grumble since he hasn’t done much of anything as President.

2056

The MER declares that it will enter the still anarchy ridden Somalia and restore order before annexing the country. Nobody makes a sound about it because Somalia has been a disaster for decades. President Piedmont receives no primary challengers and begins his re-election campaign early. The Republicans continue to follow tradition and nominate Wyoming Senator Cynthia Carlton, the first woman to try for the Presidency since Hillary Clinton’s failed campaign in 2008. She chooses Delaware Governor Peter Schmidt for VP. The race is long and extremely close since President Piedmont has done nothing in his Presidency so people neither approve nor disapprove of him. On election night a wacky election takes place.

(
)

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 304
Jim Piedmont/Randy Stevenson (D): 242

Experts come to the conclusion that Carlton won because of Piedmont’s do nothing Presidency and blue dog image which made some on the far left switched to the Green Party this election cycle.

Green is MER, brown is coutnries which should be very scared for their territorial integrity.

From what country is the President of the MER? I know you know what a silly idea it is and how many geopolitical considerations there are against it, so I won't bother commenting on that aspect.

NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2057

Cynthia Carlton is inaugurated and becomes the first woman President of the U.S. She promises to fight for conservative ideals but also to work closely with the opposition to get things done. In March the UAE decides to join the MER after waiting enough time to see if the country would succeed. The first Presidential elections are held in the MER. A provisional counsel governed the country previously. Hamzah bin Al Hussein, the previous King and current Governor of Jordan is chosen to be President after he runs away with the vote. President Carlton travels and meets the new President and comes away hopeful.

2058

On the first of the year the MER announces another, and final expansion. Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco (not Western Sahara), Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan join. Israel also gives up Lebanon and allows them to join as well after securing certain trading rights and access to cheaper oil. Many people around the world are concerned about this but nothing comes of it. Cuba’s dictatorship finally falls. President Carlton sends in troops to keep the calm after being asked to by pro-democracy groups. In the midterms Republicans make gains but the Democrats keep control of both houses.

2059

President Carlton gets a tax cut passed after tying it into dropping sanctions on Cuba, Democrats don’t like it but can do nothing about it. A pro-democracy, pro-US group gains enough popularity to be come into power and schedule free elections the following year in March. President Carlton makes an African trip and signs new agreements for many forms of aid many conservatives don’t like this but it helps solidify Carlton’s image as a moderate.

2060

In January the pro-US candidate in Cuba, Jorge de le Rosa wins 60-20-15-5 after campaigning on a platform of being annexed by the U.S. This comes as a shock to almost all political experts in the U.S. Not being sure what to do President Carlton comes out in support of annexation, though the Congress still needs to pass it. In March President Carlton announces she’ll be running for re-election and campaigns for annexation which seems to be rather popular. In the Democratic Primary blue dog former VP Randy Stevenson wins after having to take it all the way to the convention to beat out liberal New York Governor William “Billy” Brown. Stevenson then picks Brown’s biggest rival, New York Senator Raymond Burns for VP, hurting his campaign even more. All polls show President Carlson with a commanding lead with the country still have a bad taste in their mouths after the Democratic Primaries. On election night:

(
)

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 396
Randy Stevenson/Raymond Burns (D): 150

President Carlton landslides into a second term while bring the House back into Republican hands.

NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2061

Carlton is inaugurated for her second term. She immediately sets the senate on annexing Cuba. Debate rages on whether we should annex despite Carlton throwing her massive political capital behind it. In the end most Republicans vote for annexation while most Democrats vote against. Cuba enters the union as a territory on June 1st. China invades and annexes Mongolia in mid-summer. The international community condemns the Chinese while Korea, Japan and Taiwan go on red alert. President Carlton goes to Cuba to meet the new U.S. citizens and meet with elected officials. She comes away with a timetable to make Cuba a state by the year 2065.

2062

China begins building up its army, navy and air force as it declares itself a full fledged world power. The next day they invade and annex Nepal and Bhutan. The countries around China go on red alert and move troops to the boarder as a precaution. President Carlton travels to Asia and meets in an emergency summit in Japan with many countries attending. They discuss China’s actions and future possibilities. When Carlton returns to the U.S. she campaigns hard for Republicans who make large gains in Congress thanks to her popularity.

2063

VP Schmidt makes a goodwill trip to Canada where he meets with leaders in Ottawa. Before going back he makes a secret trip to Toronto that not even the media find out about. Upon returning to the U.S. he immediately meets with President Carlton to report back. China begins slowly moving troops into Tibet and Fuzhou which alarms countries in the region, especially after China begins to draft and train millions of country peasants and the cities poor. President Carlton meets with the President of Taiwan in a video conference and she pledge’s that an attack on Taiwan would be considered an attack on the U.S. The U.S. and Russia begin a joint project to build a roadway to connect the Bearing Strait, plans are for it to be deep underwater to have it be protected from the worst of the region’s weather.

2064

Early in the year President Carlton announces she will run for a third term with VP Schmidt. China declares that it has been attacked within its boarders by MER soldiers and declares war. They move troops into Northeastern MER and have little success as the mountainous region greatly slows them down and the front basically comes to a standstill. The U.S. and the rest of the world condemn the decision and begin sending aid to the MER along with weapons and other arms. The Democrats have a weak field of candidates but eventually settle on California Governor Gerald Murphy who chooses Hawaii Senator Peter Nguyen for VP. The Democrats are doomed to failure as President Carlton has a 65% approval rating and she’s aided by the fact that people are extremely nervous about the situation in Asia.

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 403
Gerald Murphy/Peter Nguyen (D): 143

Title: Re: Future of America

2065

President Carlton is inaugurated for her third term. In her speech she gives hints at another re-election run. In March Cuba votes 70% for statehood, 25% for freedom and 5% for remaining a territory. Since becoming a territory money and other assistance has poured into Cuba and has drastically improved the lives of its citizens. They enter the union on April 1st. China makes a large push in MER but is stalled almost immediately because of the mountainous territory, even though they have air superiority. An increasingly infuriated China looks at Taiwan and is clearly warned by the U.S. In a completely shocking move China invades Burma in the night and conquers and annexes it within a week in early July. Thailand mobilizes its entire army and places it on red alert. In other news Hamzah bin Al Hussein is re-elected to his second eight year term with almost 100% of the vote for his actions against China.

2066

China begins yet another offensive in MER on new year’s day and fails yet again. Even with this continued failure China announces the formation of the People’s Republic of the Chinese Empire. The next day China launches another major offensive into Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Even though they are met with tough resistance they are no matched for China’s large army. President Carlton again travels to Asia but this time she signs an agreement with Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Thailand and the Philippines to come to their aid if China attacks. Congress passes the treaty before Carlton makes it back to the U.S. At the end of the year VP Schmidt makes another secret trip to Canada.

2067

Not ready yet to deal with the newly formed alliance China invades and annexes Bangladesh. India fearing having its eastern territory cut off moves troops into the states of West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya. China begins to increase troop levels again in Fuzhou. China begins poking into Kazakhstan to try and find another route into the MER. They find little resistance to speak of. President Carlton travels to Europe and extends the alliance broadly. Republicans make gains in the House campaigning on a hawkish stance, they come one seat short of having a veto proof majority.

2068

China makes a full push into Kazakhstan early in the year. Despite having no resistance to speak of after taking out the military early in takes them until late spring to reach and capture the capital of Astana and taking complete control of the country, they annex as well. Though the world expects a major assault on the MER but instead China moves the bulk of its forces to Fuzhou. President Carlton announces she’ll run again for re-election with Peter Schmidt because of the volatility in Asia. The Democrats seem to know they’ll lose even though many people are wary of a fourth term. So they again nominate Gerald Murphy but he chooses New Mexico Congressman Brian Hartley for VP this time.

()

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 427
Gerald Murphy/Brian Hartley (D): 139

President Carlton easily wins a fourth term as Cuba gives her 70% of the vote for her efforts for annexation and then statehood.

2069

President Carlton’s fourth term starts and she gives a direct warning to China to cease and desist. It’s all for nothing though because even with negotiations being taken China begins a three pronged offensive in June. First troops pour down into Thailand and even though the country is prepared for war their troops are no match for the overwhelming numbers of the Chinese and Bangkok is quickly captured and the country subdued and annexed. At the same time Korea is invaded. Chinese troops meet light resistance until they reach the former DMZ. Korean troops put up a tremendous fight but they are no match as Korea falls to the Chinese. Along with this the long awaited prize for the Chinese, Taiwan, is invaded and conquered though they are able to slow down China with U.S. weapons and machines. By the end of June China has conquered and annexed all three. President Carlton goes before Congress and acts for a declaration of war which is given before the day is out, they are quickly joined by Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, India, the Philippines and many others. By the end of the year China has consolidated and taken up defensive positions in its new territories and has drawn up new plans for the MER invasion as well as an invasion of Japan. Luckily for China Russia has chosen to remain neutral.

2070

China makes its next move early as it easily invades the less heavily defended island of Hokkaido. Japan is able to inflict casualties but are soon forced to conced the island. As the first U.S. and allied battle groups arrive in Japan China takes the island of Kyushu and launches a full invasion of India, first cutting off eastern territory before moving west. U.S. jets begin to battle their Chinese counterparts over the skies of Japan in March with no clear winner. By June with no clear support yet New Delhi is taken by China. In early July the first American troops arrive and are sent to Japan and India to help hold the lines. In late July China begins two new offensives. The first sends troops across the Caspian Sea into former Iran. They are able to gain a small foothold but are unable to break out because they are undersupplied and far from the main front in the MER. The second front is opened on the island of Shikoku where China is also able to get a small foothold in the southwest but are unable to break out here either because of the advanced weaponry of American and Japanese troops and American air superiority. Neither side makes any gains in the mid-terms.

2071

American and Indian troops are able to slow the next Chinese troops who eventually have to resort to wave tactics to take the city of Jaipur by February. European troops begin arriving India and join their American and European counterparts. President Carlton makes a trip to the MER and meets with President Hussein where they are brought into the alliance and receive greater amount of aid and weapons. All the fronts are quiet for the most part as both sides consolidate and China makes plans for big offensives the following year.

2072

Early in the year President Carlton announces she’ll be running for a fifth term with Peter Schmidt. She says she can’t let, in good conscience, become President in this situation with the war going on strong. Democrats erupt in outrage as many prominent politicians enter the field. In spring China makes an all out push in India at the city of Bhopal and are luckily stopped fifteen miles from the city. Before reinforcements arrive on Shikoku American and Japanese forces launch a massive counterattack and force the Chinese off the island in a space of three months. The Democrats have an extremely brutal primary with all the top tier candidates in the race but they eventually choose Massachusetts Governor Bart Robinson who chooses Vermont Governor Patrick Quinn for the VP slot. China launches cruise missiles deep into the MER in late September outraging the world. In the debates President Carlton comes out with a commanding lead and a complete surrender and freedom for certain portions of original China. In the election:

()

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 458
Bart Robinson/Patrick Quinn (D): 84

President Carlton wins re-election in a massive landslide due to her proper handling of the war and the fear of someone new entering the White House.

I've gotten impatient, so thanks to Xahar for this map! :)

2073

President Carlton is inaugurated for her fifth term as she proclaims that the U.S. and her Allies won’t stop until they have gotten a total surrender from China. She is met with almost universal support, except from the fringes on both sides. In an unexpected attack in early February China takes the cities of Bhopal, Ranchi and Kolkata throwing them into chaos and hastily made defensive positions farther south. China makes another large assault at the island of  Shikoku and are again able to gain a foothold but in the process they lose air superiority over Japan. The first major naval battle happens in the Philippine Sea as the Chinese Fifth Fleet (China has 5 fleets) is destroyed and an invasion of the Philippines is foiled. Thousands die as China’s troop transports are obliterated. American and Japanese Forces again drive China off Shikoku in early December. In the MER Hamzah bin Al Hussein is elected to his third eight year term.

2074

China launches another major assault in India and takes the cities of Raipur and Bhubaneshwar. As fresh U.S. forces arrive in Asia they are sent to India where the Allies are greatly in need of backup. Chinese and Allied aircrafts begin to battle in earnest over the skies of India. American and Japanese forces finally make their move and begin their invasion of Kyushu. They are able to gain a foothold after pounding the defensive positions from the air. Troops and machines pour in and prepare for attack. In spring with western India not heavily defended the cities of Gandhinagar, Diu, Silvasaa and Mumba are taken and then before running into heavy opposition and are stopped. Allied air forces begin to gain the upper hand over India. President Carlton picks this as her time and sets in motion Operation North Star. VP Schmidt is sent to Canada and announces with the leaders of the provinces of Alberta, Quebec and the territories of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut that they are seceding and joining the U.S. as states. The territories are combined as the state of Keewatin. Canada is outraged and threatens force to stop them but eventually do nothing with the war going on, the U.S. forces fully mobilized and the rest of the world willing to ignore it since the people in the provinces and territories fully support the change.

2075

The three new states join the union on January 1st. Alberta joins with 9 EV’s, Quebec with 13 and Keewatin with 4. The U.S. and Japan continue to slowly clear the island of Kyushu with the American air force able to keep the movement of troops to the island a trickle. China makes another large assault at the city of Hyderabad in India but they are stopped far short as the Allies inflict massive casualties. In late August American and Japanese forces, after being joined by fresh forces from the Philippines, make a large push and fully force the Chinese forces off of Kyushu. With the island secure their attention turns to the island of Hokkaido, the last island of Japan that China holds. By the fall Allied forces are beginning to gain full control over the skies of India and are taking the fight to Chinese weapons factories and bases in China itself.

2076

To start off the year Allied forces make a counterattack in India, making it a few miles before overwhelming Chinese numbers stall them. While this is happening Allied forces in Japan cross the Tsugaru Straight and take the city of Hakodate and the surrounding country. In March a massive air battle is waged over the city of Shanghai. Allied air power is able to decimate China’s air force which gives them almost complete control of the skies. In early June another massive naval battle takes place. China’s First and Fourth fleets are destroyed along with two U.S. aircraft carriers (China still as their Second and Third fleets). With this victory though the Allies are able to take control of the seas around Taiwan, stranding Chinese troops on the island. On July 4th a meeting of the 13 nations (biggest members of the Allies) takes place in D.C. Leaders from the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Australia, MER, India, Philippines and the exiled leaders from Korea, Thailand and Taiwan and plot strategies for China’s defeat and what to do after. The MER is also given many more arms and backup from Allied forces to bring the fighting to a new level in the west. At the end of the conference President Carlton says she will run for a sixth term in which she promises China will be crushed and the world reshaped. The Democrats know they have no hope to win with the war going on so they let Gerald Murphy and Brian Hartley be led to the slaughtering table for this election. Before election day Allied forces in Japan have reached the outskirts of Sapporo while in India they have begun a slow and costly push northward. While in the MER forces are building to make a large offensive in the spring. On election night:

()

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 488
Gerald Murphy/Brian Hartley (D): 80

Cynthia Carlton decimates Murphy for the third time. In her victory speech she again promises to crush China and reshape Asia with the help of the world community for a better future. Unknown to anyone except the leaders of China they are plotting a bold plan for a swift victory since they are beginning to get desperate.

Bangladesh is about the size of your home state, and Kolkata is very close to the border. I wouldn't call it "nowhere near".

Finally an update!! :)

2077

President Carlton is inaugurated for her sixth term and again says the Allies plan to crush China and end the war as soon as possible; China however has other plans. With their war efforts turning sour across the board they begin to plan a European offensive to try and knock most of the Allies out of the war. In March the MER, long on the defensive,  launches a counterattack in former Iran and is able to drive the Chinese army fully out of the area. With this defeat China gets desperate enough to launch Operation Knockout. In a desperate gambit China launches waves of air strikes against all military bases in Russia as well as nuking Moscow and killing all elected leadership. As this is all taking place China sends a vast armed force north from conquered Kazakhstan taking a large chunk of eastern Russia and drive through Belarus and Poland and swarm into Germany, France and Italy who are completely unprepared for war in their homeland. The world is horrified at the carnage and that the three countries have surrendered and are annexed by China within a month. Though the world is shocked and slow to respond the remaining German, French and Italian troops continue to fight with ferocity over what has happened and by the end of summer the front in India is pushed far north as Jaipur and Ranchi are retaken and the Chinese army is left in shambles. In September the last major naval battle of the war takes place as the Allies destroy the remaining two Chinese fleets. With this China has to resort to re-supplying their troops with air drops when their air force is also in major trouble. The Allies begin drawing up plans to make major offensives in the east early next year. By the end of the year though the island of Hokkaido has been cleared of the Chinese after a grinding campaign, with this Japan is finally completely free!

2078

China leaves skeleton forces in Europe as they pull back and throw most of their forces into India to halt the Allied advance as well as sending a few to the west to help shore up the last front against the MER. Though some troops are kept in Japan the American and Japanese troops are mainly sent into two new war zones as invasions of Taiwan and the Philippines begin. Having been barely supplied for months the Chinese troops fold rather easily as many surrender and both countries are free again within two months immensely surprising Allied leadership. A secret plan known only to the US goes into effect as the Chinese leadership is assassinated sending the army into chaos. With no communication for hours as factions wrangle for power in Beijing the Allies throw all their forces at the Chinese lines in India shattering them completely except for isolated pockets in the matter of hours with superior numbers and airpower with massive carpet-bombing of the Chinese lines before the assault. Many Chinese soldiers escape for now into the Himalayan Mountains only to die of exposure later. The rest retreat either west to the front against the MER while the majority head to Bangladesh which has been turned into a fortress which the remains of the Chinese force announces it will hold to the death. By summer a radically militaristic faction has gained control of the new “Chinese Empire” but by this time Allied forces have smashed the rest of Chinese troops in the west and have met up with numerous resistance groups and have crossed the Himalayas and moved into Tibet. Not yet wanting to deal with fortified Bangladesh the Allies move around it and begin plunging south freeing much of Southeast Asia with little resistance as troops have been ordered to return to China or to Bangladesh. On December 1st, US, Canadian and British reserve forces land in France and begin liberating Europe.

2079

On New Years Day President Carlton announces the end of the war is in sight and demands the leaders of China surrender. They of course decline as they prepare for an extended invasion. Allied leaders meet with Russian military leaders in Siberia and welcome them into the fold as they prepare a final, though equally bloody end to what has become known as WWIII. On March 1st Beijing is nuked again killing Chinese leadership. At the same time the entire Allied armies swarm into China from all directions overwhelming the country. A large chunk of the military, knowing the end is near counterattack and punch their way through and make it to Bangladesh and further beef up the fortress country. By the end of the month China has been defeated and conquered as the Republic of China (Taiwan) raise their flag over Shanghai. Turning to other matters Chinese forces left in Bangladesh have again said they will fight to the death. As all civilians stream out of the country massive carpet-bombings of the entire country begin. Allied forces eventually enter after a month of continued bombings and have to fight for every inch of land they retake as the country. In the end Dhaka is all that is left and within two months is reduced to rubble in building to building fighting. By the end of September WWIII is finally over! With the war over a worldwide council is created specifically for deciding the future for China. It will take months.

2080

With much work done the results of the council are announced in early June, they are as follows:

1.   Kazakhstan’s remaining leadership decides to join the MER.
2.   Tibet is given its freedom.
3.   Inner Mongolia is given to Mongolia.
4.   China becomes the Republic of China based in Taipei, Taiwan and administered by the former Taiwanese government until the country is rebuilt and free elections can take place.
5.   After such major destruction Bangladesh becomes part of India.
6.   Trillions of dollars from all over the world will be pumped into all countries affected by WWIII to help rebuild the region as quickly as possible.

Now that the war is over many on the left call for the end of the Carlton Administration after all these years. Responding to these calls President Carlton goes on primetime television and announces that she will run for one more term to help the rebuilding process and then will retire. With the coming of summer President Carlton goes on a tour of Asia to see for herself the destruction that the war has caused. She promises to send much aid to rebuild the area, as much as possible. She is received by cheering civilian and military crowds. Back on the home front the Democrats decide to bide their time for another four years and again nominate the ticket of Gerald Murphy and Brian Hartley. On the day before Election Day campaigning in Los Angeles President Carlton is shot five times by a former Chinese sniper who promptly kills himself before he can be captured. President Carlton is pronounced dead upon arrival at the nearest hospital. VP Schmidt is immediately inaugurated and chooses Maine Governor Sylvan Brown for VP as they continue into election day. With the nation in shock the election is a repeat of the last with many people casting their ballets for President Schmidt out of respect for former President Carlton and to honor her.

Haha, they haven't died. Why do you think they keep running Gerald Murphy? They don't want to waste their good candidates. And as was said in the tl Schmidt victory was basically a vote for a 7th term of President Carlton, she was killed a day before the voting. But the real question is how will President Schmidt do and can he win another term after 25+ years of Republican leadership? And as a sidenote if you don't remember, he's a liberal Republican.

2081

Peter Schmidt is sworn in as the nation’s 52nd President and promises to continue the late President Carlton’s foreign policy and also to do more to help Americans domestically. Many are shocked when President Schmidt proposes a bill that will include Seniors in the universal health care system that’s already in place for children and those under the poverty line. Conservatives erupt in outrage, many having forgotten that Schmidt governed as a liberal Republican while Governor of Delaware. Either way the bill passes relatively easily even though Congress is dominated by conservatives. Success is owed to all Democrats voting for it as well as many moderate Republicans, as well as many liberal Republicans that were pulled into office do to former President Carlton’s popularity.

While rebuilding continues slowly in Asia trouble is brewing up north in Canada. Many conservatives out west are angry the U.S. didn’t try and annex their provinces during the war. Liberals on the other hand are still outraged at what the U.S. did and continue to demand the “stolen land” back. Either way Canada is beginning to fracture with the country being split up. Conservative Party Prime Minister Bradley Owens knows something must be done and gets a province by province referendum passed that will determine what happens. Owens travels the west, especially his native Saskatchewan and stumps for annexation by the U.S. The referendum is set for early September.

President Schmidt travels north as well and stumps for annexation as well, knowing that the two countries united would be stronger. After spending a week in western Canada he travels south for meetings with all the Central and South American countries. On his return to Washington two weeks later he has introduced four bills, the South American Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA), the African Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) and the Asian Free Trade Agreement (AFTA II). Conservatives are somewhat happy with this after what they perceive President Schmidt’s first legislation a failure. Enemy countries are kept out of the free trade agreements which make them even more popular. The conservative dominated Congress easily passes them as President Schmidt signs them on Independence Day.

The rest of the year is relatively quiet until September. In Canada the referendum takes place. Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island vote for independence and form the new country of Maritime, they have a parliamentary system. Ontario and Manitoba vote to remain part of Canada and thus keep the name. Saskatchewan votes overwhelmingly to join the U.S. while farther out west British Columbia votes narrowly for U.S. annexation, the final total being 46-44-10 (annexation-independence-remaining part of Canada). The U.S. congress quickly passes legislation that allows Saskatchewan and Columbia (forced name change since they are no longer British) to join the U.S. on January 1st of the new year.

2082

Saskatchewan and Columbia join the union with 4 and 9 electoral votes respectively. President Schmidt in DC makes a speech welcoming the new states but he also has another mission. He announces the introduction of a new amendment, one that would allow foreign born citizens to become President after having been citizens for 35 years. This will cause much debate on capital hill with both parties split in all different directions on the issue. After much debate the amendment is passed and it moves on to the states.

While the states begin to debate the issue the economy begins to go into a recession. After over 8 decades of economic growth and prosperity and an even bigger war boom the economy had begun to slow down and then go into a downturn the last few months while finally becoming a full fledged recession in the spring. Hoping to nip it in the bud President Schmidt proposes an economic stimulus package and asks Congress to pass it as quickly as possible. Unfortunately the conservative dominated Congress rejects the idea. President Schmidt goes before the nation and lets them know what has happened and personally apologizes to them. By early fall the amendment has passed ¾ o the states and goes into effect. In the midterms the Democrats make huge gains knocking off many liberal Republicans and conservatives in the Northeast and along the west coast and other traditionally Democratic areas and regain the House.

2083

Once the new Congress gets in session they quickly pass a revised, slightly bigger stimulus package. Knowing it won’t help stop the recession now but knowing it could help many Americans President Schmidt signs the bill outraging the Republicans. In March a meeting of American Conservatives takes place, it’s also planned as a way to help strengthen the Republican Party in the coming years. Many issues are extensively debated and voted on. Though President Schmidt attends he is attacked almost the whole time by over 2/3rds of the attendees. Nonetheless he carries on and tries to get liberal and moderate Republicans to be heard but it still does little good. In the fall Schmidt travels to Asia again and is shown the rebuilding efforts so far. He tours many cities that are being carefully planned a rebuilt, many of them are ahead of schedule. On his return he gets another large Asia spending bill passed for Asia with the help of bipartisan support though the price tag is beginning to make economic conservatives gag.

2084

President Schmidt makes a trip to meet with Liberian leaders in January. Being the expansionist he is Schmidt tries to get a deal to eventually make Liberia a state. Liberian leaders are receptive but don’t want to make anything official. When he returns home Schmidt is asked by many conservative Republicans not to run for re-election. They tell him many are unhappy with his Presidency and they feel he is nowhere near conservative enough. He quickly tells them that he will make his own decision when the time comes enraging many who want him gone. When word of this talk gets out many former President Carlton supporters, those in office and private citizens take to the streets of the capital in support of President Schmidt. Trying to stay above it all Schmidt asks the protesters to let it be and to support it with their votes when the time comes.

With that all Schmidt announces that he will run for re-election with Sylvan Brown. Conservative Republicans though will not take this lying down and decide to run a ticket of their own. Mississippi Governor Harry Morrison takes the lead and chooses Texas Governor Rick Rowmer for VP. With this all going down Democrats feel they have a great chance at finally reclaiming the White House. They eventually nominate former VP candidate and Senator Peter Nguyen, the first Asian to lead a major ticket. He chooses Maine Governor Ralph Reid for his running mate. While many feel that this will be the election the Bloc Quebecois Party decides to start running their own candidates again now that President Carlton is gone. They nominate Quebec Governor Pierre Charest for President and he chooses Maine Representative Martin Paine for VP.

The debates are extremely interesting but going into Election Day it is certain Charest is only doing well locally in Quebec and northern Maine while President Schmidt and Governor Morrison are splitting the Republican vote with polls showing Senator Nguyen with vast leads. On election night:

()

Peter Schmidt/Sylvan Brown (R): 186
Peter Nguyen/Ralph Reid (D): 246
Harry Morrison/Rick Rowmer (IC): 160
Pierre Charest/Martin Paine: (BQ): 13

Peter Nguyen wins across the country and becomes the first Democratic President in over twenty five years and the first Asian President. President Schmidt takes liberal and moderate Republicans as well as a sampling of conservatives around the country. Senator Morrison wins historically conservative areas in the south and Senator Charest wins only Quebec.

Yay, it's finally an update! Comments please! :)

2085

President Nguyen is sworn into office, in his inauguration speech he declares the “decades of American imperialism is now over”. When he arrives in D.C. he is met by Democrats from around the nation where a massive rally is held before his inauguration. Immediately upon entering office he pushes through a bill that redoes the whole interstate system around the country as well as expanding or creating it in certain states, especially the new ones. With a commanding Democratic majority President Nguyen also pushes through a complete single payer universal healthcare system for everyone angering conservatives.

Meanwhile former President Schmidt moves to Liberia and with powerful connections, as well as the current President is installed as President himself shocking the world. In his first speech he is saying he is doing this for the betterment of Africa and eventually the U.S. as he begins to build a strong army, navy and air force. President Nguyen immediately condemns this as meddling in other countries affairs but other world leaders pass it off having previously known the President.

In early fall President Nguyen travels to Asia himself and tours the continuing reconstruction. He promises much more aide which is quickly passed while he’s gone and awaits his signature on his return to the U.S. While still in Asia meets with leaders in southeastern Asia where reconstruction has been the slowest and tries to get them to hurry up the process for the betterment of their citizens. While there an agreement is hammered out to create the Republic of Vietnam consisting of former Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

On his return to the U.S. President Nguyen signs the new reconstruction bill as well as increases to funding in stem cell research which has considerably advanced and is close to finding a few cures. Polls conducted show the President has a 63% approval rating.

2086

With intensive training from U.S. veterans President Schmidt feels the time is right and invades Sierra Leone. The fighting is tough though with modern weapons Liberia mostly has a cakewalk. After the country is subdued it’s annexed and modernization begins throughout both countries with executive orders from the President. Back in the U.S. President Nguyen is horrified and immediately travels to Liberia. President Nguyen promptly tells President Schmidt to stop what he’s doing and he is just as promptly refused and told to take his own advice and not meddle in other countries affairs. Thoroughly pissed he returns to the U.S. but he isn’t ready to do anything about the situation.

On the home front the recession is slowly beginning to reverse which all citizens are grateful for. While this is good news for the Nguyen Administration they get an unwelcome shock in May when Manitoba announces they are seceding from Canada and joining the U.S. President Nguyen refuses though Congress doesn’t agree with him as they gladly welcome Manitoba in which becomes a state on July 1 with 4 electoral votes.

The rest of the year is quiet as the Democrats make marginal gains in the House and Senate but are able to gain majorities in both.

2087

On new years day President Schmidt continues with his plan with simultaneous invasions of Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire. Though the fighting is intense they also fall before the beefed up army of Liberia. Though many leaders don’t necessarily like what’s happening they give their support to President Schmidt because of the state China has left the world in. President Nguyen is the only one to vocally oppose this besides some neighboring African nations and he is ignored.

Continuing on with his liberal agenda President Nguyen gets a massive farm subsidies bill passed. Over the last few decades they had drastically been reduced so the bill returns them to their former levels and then raises them quite a bit. Along with this more funding is given to many different social programs which greatly piss off conservatives nation wide.

Though President Nguyen is greatly successful at home President Schmidt is still a thorn in his side he also easily invades Guinea-Bissau, Gambia and Senegal. Other African nations in the region finally begin to get nervous and start taking preventative measures. President Nguyen sends them in aid and hopes that they are able to stop President Schmidt.

In the winter President Nguyen shocks his party by signing a bill that miraculously passed, which eliminates the estate tax. Some on the far left question him but stay in line with him anyways. His approval rating stands at 67% on Christmas Day. Though high it still pales in comparison to former President Carlton’s approval ratings near the end of her tenure.

2088

With the start of the New Year President Nguyen announces he’ll be running for a second term with Ralph Reid. Republicans begin their nomination process with many candidates vying for the job.

Continuing on with his grand plan in Africa President Schmidt invades, conquers and annexes Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo and Benin as well as formally annexing all previously conquered territory. Nigeria is alarmed at this and immediately raises their whole army and move it to their border while President Schmidt only focuses on modernizing and re-building the newly conquered territory.

Back in the U.S. Harry Morrison is able to win the Republican nomination this time around with a strong conservative agenda as well as calling for direct help for his former enemy President Schmidt in Africa. He again chooses Rick Rowmer for VP. As the campaign heats up it is obvious President Nguyen will have an easy time at re-election which allows him ample time to visit other countries around the world. He is even able to get the Bloc Quebecois Party not to nominate a candidate and endorse him.

On election night:

()

Harry Morrison/Rick Rowmer (R): 298
Peter Nguyen/Ralph Reid (D): 311

Though the election is a blowout in the popular vote the electoral vote is a lot closer even as President Nguyen cruises to re-election.

On Christmas Day President Schmidt launches a surprise attack on Nigeria in the middle of the night catching them unaware and driving deep into the country before they can regroup. As the year comes to a close President Schmidt sits at his desk and watches live feeds from the battlefield as his plans slowly come to fruition.

-First of all, There is no chance that the EV number by state would be exactly the same. Congressional seats and therefore Electoral Votes are reapportioned every ten years as a result of the census.

-Also, someone being elected for seven terms is not realistic. Even in the very unlikely case of the 22nd amendment being repealed, as you described, nobody could maintain that much support for more than 25 years.

This is not meant to criticise you, though. I just kind of get annoyed at tiny little things like that. It is a good timeline, in general. :)

1. I know, I just don't have the time or patience to fix EV's every time it needs to be done. :P

2. It was because of the war, without it she wouldn't have been elected that much. Kinda like FDR. But I know, it's kinda out there.

3. Thanks! :)

2089

As President Nguyen is inaugurated in for his second term President Schmidt is making great progress in Nigeria. Having caught them with their pants down he is able drive within a mile of the capital of Abuja. Back in the U.S. President Nguyen is ripping his foreign policy advisors heads off at Schmidt’s advances.

By this time Canada, or rather all that is left of it being Ontario, is completely bankrupt and failing as a country. Liberal Prime Minster Tyler Morgan petitions the U.S. for annexation and President Nguyen, though against the idea but seeing how former Canadian provinces have voted recently supports annexation as well as Congress. The new state of Ontario is slated to join the union on July 1st with 21 EVs.

By late spring President Schmidt has conquered and annexed Nigeria. He begins modernization as soon as the bullets stop flying. The next morning Schmidt receives a phone call from President Nguyen telling him to stop before the U.S. forces him to. He calls his bluff by launching another night attack but at Cameroon this time.

President Nguyen goes to the EU in September and goes into negotiations with them to get a force together to stop President Schmidt in Africa. (By this time the EU has grown in include Iceland, Switzerland, Norway, Croatia, Kosovo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, Belarus and the Ukraine). President Nguyen is told flat out that the EU has adopted a stance of neutrality to most foreign wars after what happened in WWIII but they would be willing to provide non-military aid. President Nguyen leaves thoroughly pissed at the lack of support.

By years end President Schmidt has also conquered and annexed Cameroon and begins to consolidate a little while continuing to recruit discharged foreign Special Forces.

2090

After many years of negotiation the Middle Eastern Republic is finally able to annex Eritrea and are finally able to have a fully contiguous country. President Nguyen makes an early cross country trip campaigning for Democratic incumbents before returning to Washington as he says he won’t be able to do it later in the year.

As spring ends President Schmidt begins his next move as he swiftly seizes and annexes Equatorial Guinea and moves his army into Gabon. After a month of heavy fighting the country is also conquered and annexed having been unprepared for war.

President Schmidt petitions the EU for non-military aid which they grant. Infuriated President Nguyen blasts the EU for its decision though they rebuff him saying they never said the U.S. would be the only country to receive non-military aid.

In the mid terms Republicans make some gains out west. It is theorized by pundits that if President Nguyen had campaigned during the actual campaign season he could have helped stem some of the losses.

2091

With a slightly decreased margin in Congress President Nguyen gets a large increase in stem cell research passed. The science has come up with some great advances lately that have helped many people so it passes with mostly bi-partisan support. President Nguyen also is able to get massive tracts of land in Canada declared as national preserves as well as twists enough arms to get an anti-whaling bill passed that prevents Native Americans from traditional whaling as well as lets the U.S. Navy forcibly stop any foreign vessels that are whaling.

President Schmidt makes his next move in June as he invades the Republic of the Congo which is also unprepared for war. Before too much damage is done however the Republic of the Congo has surrendered and allowed themselves to be annexed for the good of its people.

Concerned for what is happening to their south the MER meets with President Schmidt’s Liberia about what his plans are. Schmidt fully discloses what he plans while the MER’s President is greatly intrigued and promises to keep what he has found out a secret as well as to supply Schmidt with aid (military and non-military) to help him achieve his plan faster.

President Nguyen makes another trip to Asia and amid the rebuilding happening in Shanghai declares that he will seek a third term as President and continue to be a President of the World. Being Asian himself he gets thunderous applause before he heads back to the U.S.

2092

On New Year’s Day President Schmidt meets with the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and tells him he’s the last piece of his African puzzle that he needs and he can either allow his country to be annexed peacefully to have a drawn out war that will not be good for either side. The DROTC’s President chooses to fight to the horror of President Schmidt. Not being prepared to fight right away however he begins to reequip and rearm his army while defensive positions begin to be built across the border.

As a late entry on the Republican side 103 year old Governor of Oregon and former Republican Presidential candidate for President in 2024 Steven Wilmont announces his candidacy for President. Having been a Republican stalwart and their strongest leader he immediately shoots to the top in the polls. He is able to cement this with quick wins in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary which allows him to easily rap up the nomination. He chooses young Governor of Washington Jack Young for VP.

President Nguyen treats this announcement as a joke because of his opponent’s age and sticks to a light campaign schedule like he did 4 years ago. The debates are mostly a split with President Nguyen winning the first, the second being a tie and Governor Wilmont winning the third. Each candidate is about even with campaign financing until late July when President Schmidt gives a massive donation to the Wilmont campaign as he continues to bide his time in Africa.

On election night:

()

Steven Wilmont/Jack Young (R): 320
Peter Nguyen/Ralph Reid (D): 310

Governor Wilmont is able to win by peeling a part of the Northwest to his side while keeping all of Morrison’s states from four years earlier, even with Ontario joining the union. President-Wilmont will also be the oldest President as well as the oldest President elected to the office.

2093

President Wilmont is inaugurated and promises to fight for conservative ideals and take a much more active in world affairs. He immediately contacts President Schmidt and lets him know he’ll be dispatching the U.S. army to help him take over the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Detachments begin leaving in early February.

In March on a trip to Florida Jack Young is killed in a jet skiing accident. The nation morns the VP as President Wilmont makes a shocking pick as a replacement, former President Peter Nguyen. The pick is easily confirmed by the Democratic Congress. During the confirmation process President Nguyen speaks out against the U.S. troops being sent to the DROTC but in his first private meeting with President Wilmont he’s threatened with death if he publically speaks out against it again and is made to work for it behind the scenes.

By mid-March all U.S. troops needed are in place as the joint army makes its move into the DROTC. The army moves into the jungles easily enough and with the training of the U.S. forces is able to make short work of any resistance they encounter. Very early on the capital city is taken as the army moves into the jungle but those forces are taken out rather easily as well. By the end of the month the country is annexed by Liberia and most U.S. forces return home while some are left behind to help in peace keeping operations.

President Schmidt makes his first trip back to the U.S. in May and meets with President Wilmont, VP Nguyen and Republican leaders and finally tells them his plans for Africa. He plans to have Africa brought into the U.S. as territories as he continues to modernize and improve the region before they eventually become states. President Wilmot and the Republican leaders agree to help push this through Congress. VP Nguyen is not happy but is again threatened and says he will comply as well.

Shortly after President Schmidt makes an appearance before a joint session of Congress with President Wilmont and announces the decision as Harry Morrison introduces a bill into the Senate to make this happen. This announcement brings hell to the capitol as debate rages. President Wilmont is able to get all Republicans to agree to support it and with the unwilling support of VP Nguyen he convinces enough Democrats to support it as well. The bill passes Congress by the end of the year and brings in Africa as the territories of: Senegambia (combination of Senegal and Gambia), Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon (which includes Equatorial Guinea), West Congo (which includes the former Republic of Congo and the provinces of Kinshasa, Kongo Central, Kwango, Kwilu, Mai-Ndombe, Kasai, Equateur, Tshuapa, Nord-Ubangi, Mongala and Sud-Ubangi from the old DROTC as well as the province of Cabinda which is purchased from Angola) and East Congo (which is made up of the rest of the provinces from the old DROTC).

2094

On January 1st the nation of Liberia enters the U.S. as the before mentioned territories. President Schmidt officially becomes the Governor of Liberia as he continues to work with the development of the new provinces.

President Wilmont despite his age is very healthy and still active and makes a trip to the new territories, starting in the north and ending in the south. He talks to many different people and in front of huge crowds as he begins to build up the Republican Party’s image through the region.

On his return to Washington he makes more visits to the plains states and much of former Canada and talks to people telling them how they used to support Republican candidates and that they should again do so. Finally done with his trips he returns to Washington again and gets through a massive spending bill to further the African modernization.

All of Europe decides to formally break away from helping the U.S. in space and to pool their efforts in the newly formed European Aeronautics and Space Administration under the EU. They announce they plan to put their own man on the moon within the next 6 years and begin to make build their own bases on the moon. The U.S. announces that they will help the EU in space exploration but that they will make sure that no bases besides those they control will be built on the moon.

President Wilmont goes before Congress and gets 5 more moon bases passed. They’ll be the first bases built in over fifty years. They will help the U.S. solidify its control on the moon which is almost becoming like a new U.S. territory. NASA scientists and government officials begin planning an extremely large military and scientific base that will be heavily fortified somewhere on the moon but nothing is decided on at this time.

2095

President Wilmont sets in motion resource mining in Africa modernizing that whole aspect as well as massively expanding oil exports out of the territory of Nigeria. He makes a speech saying that the U.S. needs to maximize its new resources in order to bring the entire country to a stronger and livelier point.

In early March President Wilmont dies peacefully in his sleep at the age of 106. The nation mourns his death as VP Nguyen is swiftly re-inaugurated into his old office. At first he looks at finding a new Vice President but when no one new wants the job he gets Ralph Reid to retake the position.

Upon taking office President Nguyen tries to reverse some of President Wilmot’s African economic policies but they have become too popular within the public and even his own party that he’s talked down. He does take the initiative though and begins building the Democratic Party in Africa.

A small third party begins to form out of many other smaller parties in Africa. Named the Pan-African Party it strives for complete modernization and integration of the African territories into America and speedy statehood. It’s also for putting Africa first until all these objectives are complete. Mbeki Timbo becomes Chairman and leader of the Party at age 50 out of Liberia.

Having been delayed by WWIII the underwater bridge and pipeline spanning the bearing straight is completed by the U.S. and Russian governments. Both countries pass funding for better road systems for the regions where the bridge has been built, linking them to other infrastructure in their respective countries.

Republicans begin talking to conservative leaders in the country about Maritime. They talk about Maritime eventually being annexed by the U.S. since the rest of Canada has already done so and how annexation would help the country. They agree it should happen but it will take a lot of work because of Maritime’s liberal leaders and its booming economy.

2096

As election year dawns President Nguyen announces he’ll be running for re-election with Ralph Reid. They seem to be in a good position to win despite being against intervening in the world.

The Republicans roll into their primary season with a lot of candidates trying to take up the late President Wilmont’s mantle. After a bruising process they settle on California Representative Carson Dobbler for President and Ohio Representative Bradley Morgan for VP.

The campaigns for both parties are relatively boring with President Nguyen campaigning for the status quo and Representative Dobbler calling for the continuation of Wilmont’s legacy. And while this dry campaign is happening the status quo is what is happening around the world. Asia is just getting back on its feet after WWIII and Africa is slowly modernizing with the world being a quiet, sleepy place.

On election night:

()

Carson Dobbler/Bradley Morgan (R): 298
Peter Nguyen/Ralph Reid (D): 332

The election is an exact copy of the 2088 election. Nguyen is able to win a third term easily without President Wilmont pulling away the northwest.

Wow, this is one of the worst time-lines I've ever read. Al Gore and John Kerry representing the Democratic left? Holy sh**t.

Thanks guys, I look forward to reading your oh so great and realistic (which I said this wasn't going to be, it's for fun) timelines.

Well, it depends on how the political trend has run. After all, this is a hundred years into the future, and even in Gore and Kerry's time within this timeline, what would have been the center in American politics could be the Left, and by 2090, the Far-Left. At the same time, an opposite trend could occur. Within their our history, the Republican and Democratic parties have switched almost entirely in their ideology's.

I think this is a great timeline.

I don't like this one bit. Timelines should be realistic and fun. There is no contradiction there, but in this case realism went out the window for the sake of being different. This is just too redicolous

Give MasterJedi a break. He's doing it for fun. It doesn't matter if it's realistic or not. I actually found it rather enjoyable, however far-fetched it is. :)

Finally someone understands!

I am still working on this, very slowly though.

Isn't it true that in your TL that abortion is punishable by castration by the end of mid century?

No, it's just illegal. And there is no death penatly for it either. Just a huge fine and a long time in jail.

Thanks for that.
While totally outlandish, this timeline is as fun as heck.
Almost motivates me to write a future timeline of my own.

You know what, screw you. I randomly thought of this tonight and spent awhile searching through where I knew it was without being signed in and wasted about 10 min not finding it. :P

As I've said numerous times, I know this timeline would never happen, it's just interesting what if.

Speaking of this TL, I have had another update done for over a year now. I just have no time to write out the complicated part of Africa to get someone's help to do a map. I should also get this moved over to the main section...

or maybe probation where the offender has to register with some sort of Catholic or Evangelical Christian Reeducation program... like someone who got into trouble with drugs, DUI or Domestic stuff...

Perhaps for a first offender, you would get like 4 or 5 years of Probation and a $900 fine...and you would be subject to the typical prior offender laws (have to register as a felon, get prohibited from voting and put on a FBI "Do Not Carry" watch list...unless you are allowed to take  a First Offender plea)...and as part of the probation, you would have to go to Sunday School and be confirmed into a member of that church  by the time your probation ends or you violate the probation and have to reserve your term of probation in prison and lose your First Offender benefits and become a "Prior Offender".

Sounds more like a socialist/communist re-education/brainwashing program than what Christians would do!

That's not a Communist thing or a Christian thing its a Force Your Beliefs On Others "thing". ..and what do Commies and Fundies do the best? Let's just say they know how to "persuade" people certain ways.
