Title: Most underrated Senator
Post by: nini2287 on February 01, 2006, 06:50:40 AM
I would have to give the award to Jack Reed, with honorable mentions to Kent Conrad and Judd Gregg.

Good choice. His voting record is excellent.

When I took that ontheissues quiz, he came out as the Senator my views are closest to, along with Fritz Hollings and Russ Feingold.

I used to get him as #1 when I was more of a liberal, this time I got another very underrated Senator - Gordon Smith.  Kerry, Jeffords and Boxer? were my #2, #3 and #4

I agree with you that Kerry is terribly underrated. Hes quite the senator and I feel he should get more recognition for his work.

Agree with Reed.

Cornyn and Allard are both quiet freedom fighters.

Byron Dorgan. A liberal senator who is popular in a conservative state. He must be using Jedi mind tricks.

Rick Santorum. I say this because a far-right extremist Senator managed to defeat an incumbent Democrat, survive reelection six years later, and have a fairly high media profile. And the most amazing part is that he is from Pennsylvania, which has been a blue state in the last four elections. I don't like him much, or agree with his politics at all. But he does have some kind of skill.

Sometimes Conrad takes the more liberal position, for example Dorgan voted for and Conrad voted against the Iraq war.

Saxby Chambliss

His worthlessness as a member of the human race is underrated! :D

All the more reason he deserves to be in my signature!

You are so right on that one.  His attacks on Cleland were downright disgusting.

Anyway, I believe that Lindsey Graham from my home state of SC is underrated.  I don't usually agree w/ him at all, but he has shown flashes of independence that make him something more than just another rank-and-file politician (cough Henry Brown (SC-1) cough)

Yes, Chambliss is despicable. Unbefitting of the great state of Georgia

Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, on the other hand, is one conservative Republican I'll admit to having a favorable opinion towards. If voting scores are any barometer, he doesn't seem to be as economically conservative as many of his colleagues

Another vote for Jack Reed. Humble, hard working, and by far the most credible voice among congressional Democratc on on national security.

I have to agree about the wonderful, wonderful North Dakota delegation.

I think Colorado's junior senator Ken Salazar is great, though he's not necessary underrated except when compared to fellow freshman Obama.

I'm going to go out on a crazy limb here, though, and suggest that crazy right-wingers Sam Brownback and Tom Coburn are underrated by the left.

Why?  Yes, they're wingnuts, but each stands up for his principles in contrast to the general corporate whoredom of the unthinking Bush-supporting Zombies that populate the more conservative ranks of GOPers...

Brownback, imho, deserves kudos for his willingness to stand up for humanitarianism, particularly as it applies to helping developing countries, as shown by his leadership on the Darfur issue.  I think he also tends to definitely shy away from the veiled racism that is popular in some gop circles and appreciate his stance in support of immigrant rights... I think his stance on social issues is impractical to say the least...

Coburn, meanwhile, deserves credit for being a pain in the rump of the GOP majority and of Ted Stevens in particular.  I disagree with him on his opposition to big government when the largesse is used to help the less fortunate, but when the GOP is in charge, the largesse goes to malevolent interests and his attacks on their governance, thus, makes him a sometimes ally of the good guys... (kinda like Ron Paul)

Coburn, Kyl, or Sessions.
