There are few states with more than 2 voters...

Actually, we kind of have a senate already, since a lot of us declared ourselves senators during the campaign.

As long as the Senate was done in regions, like Harry suggested (one for west, midwest, northeast, south, mid-atlantic, southeast)

I think there should be a senate, house and SCT in some way.  We then could put this with Presidency and VP and pass bill ( well talk about ones in congress), talk about roles of Presidencya nd SCT cases int eh real world with players here and make it practical and a way to discuss and learn ytthe topics of the day.

I'm sorry, I'm just not for the idea.  I'm not trying to get mine and then pull up the latter so no one else can get any.  I just think that we should stick with disscussion and stay away from that level of organization.  I don't expect anything out of being president other than to have fun and represent the forum.  That's all.  That being said, I think that a whole government would be hazardous to the forum and may cause some GOOD, COMITTED members to leave.

I fact, so that we can keep elections "Because this is fun".  I propose that one year (or whenever we decide) from now, we hold a new election and I will NOT run if elected this time.  That way we can get some new blood.

Btw. I met one of my very conservative friend today. He defines himself as Republican and strongly supports Bush. BUT he admited that he couldn't agree Republican's healthcare policy at all and favoured universal model.

In Europe universal healthcare has almost 100% support. Why that? Think about it!

Why are all the conservatives against the proposal? They'd probably win.

I think if we had 10 region, split in a way that each region had 3 states one party and two the other, and that each party had an equal number of "3" states, it could be a good race.

Make it so that only ppl from that region can vote, and they have to vote in their post, rather then a poll.

It'll give us something to do when the presidential election is over.

I'll create a district map :)

Please, I don't think this is a good idea.  We may lose valuible members if we do this.  The unity of the forum is what I care about.  I don't want GOOD, COMMITED people to leave because we have taken this to far.  Like I said, we should hold another Presidential election in a year or so and I will NOT run for re-election if I win, that way we can get some new people involved.

OK, no senate. But I'm still going to post my map; it took ages to work out the distrits.

In the proposal, there are 6 Republican districts, 4 Democrats districts and one that is probably democrat. I did it on 2000 Results and EVs, so it might be a bit different now. I tried to have every district with between 50-60 EVs.

Title: Re:Atlas Senate

Damn. Well, here are the districts anyway:

A(55 EVs)(Should go D):
California (55)

B(55)(R):
Alaska (3) Hawaii (4) Washington (11) Oregon (7) Idaho (4) Montana (3) Wyoming (3) Colorado (9) North Dakota (3) South Dakota (3) Nebraska (5)

C(59)(R):
Nevada(5) Arizona (10) Utah (5) New Mexico (5) Texas (34)

D(51)(R):
Kansas (6) Oklahoma (7) Arkansas (6) Missouri (11) Illinois (21)

E(56)(D):
Minnesota (10) Iowa (7) Wisconsin (10) Michigan (17) Indiana (12)

F(51)(R):
Louisiana (9) Mississippi (6) Alabama (9) Florida (27)

G(57)(R):
Georgia (15) South Carolina (8) North Carolina (15) Tennessee (11) Kentucky (8)

H(51)(R):
Ohio (20) West Virginia (5) Virginia (13) DC (3) Maryland (10)

I(50)(D):
Delaware (3) Pennsylvania (21) New Jersey (15) Connecticut (7) Rhode Island (4)

J(54)(D):
New York (31) Massachusetts (12) Vermont (3) New Hampshire (4) Maine (4)

It's a bit of a shame at the geographical break in group "I"; but this is as good as I could do :)

You can voice your opinion by voting 'no' in this poll.  You can also create multiple screen names (something you are quite familiar with) and commit voer fraud (something you are quite familiar with) until 'no' is winning this poll.

My suggestion would be for the folks here who want to do a sim to create a new board just for that purpose.  Miami, didn't you have a board you were trying to get people to come to or was that someone else? :)

I think that most of the conservatives here are here because they want to discuss real politics.  Sure, if I were a lefty, I'd probably want to hide myself in a sim too.. but you guys shouldn't give up hope.  I mean, there's always Mass... no, wait they have a Republican Governor... well there's always Verm... no, Republican governor and state chamber there too.  Ah, I've got it... for you Democrats, there's always DC.  You'll always win there and won't have to worry about us spoiling your fun.  Ok, except for the two Republican DC councilpersons :)

Like I've said before, I've had my sim experience and was glad to have it.  But I want to talk with you guys about what is really happening in the world and I enjoy your opinions.  If a good number of you want to participate in a sim, then I think there is certainly enough knowledge among you to create one that you could control, set standards for, and manage.  You could name it and set up forums for the different parties and organizations if you wanted to go all out.  But I would just plead with you to not turn this forum into a sim.  I think it changes the whole character of the site and I like it the way it is now.

lol, Political Stability eh?  I'm giving China 20 to 30 years at the most to last as a Communist state.  I believe the people there will eventually see what their country is actually capable of, and they'll move.

China can't really be called a Communist state. THey're more fascist. They actually embrace capitalism now, even in official rethorics.

If you ask your fellow party member Opebo, democracy is mob rule, and it's good to keep it in check... ;)

I have a PM who praised China for its "political stability"
lol, Political Stability eh?  I'm giving China 20 to 30 years at the most to last as a Communist state.  I believe the people there will eventually see what their country is actually capable of, and they'll move.
Hopefully they'll revolt.

Well. There obviously won't be Atlas Senate?
I wouldn't say that, more people voted for, than against.
That doesn't mean anything.
So, apparently Democracy doesn't mean anything anymore.  OK I'm moving to China then, where it does.  ;)

That's what I was implying.

They won't. Their economy is improving and that will keep people happy for a while. Slow internal progress is more likely and would be better as well.

It would be better if they had a different government.

Yes, of course, unless it would be a hard-line Communist government or something equally bad. But  don't see a government change happening anytime soon.

Yes, it would be better if they had a new govt.; but at the moment, their govt. is at least existant. A nation of 1.4 billion people, under revolt, would screw up the whole worlds economy, especially asia's, for many many years.

A slower transition to an open, western-style democracy should be the route-and it is; with the WTO, opening up to the world, the Beijing olympics, etc.

China is far from perfect, but it is better then it was 20 years ago, and in 20 more years it will be better again, if we continue down this path.

Exactly, my opinion, I agree wholeheartedly.

What's happening in China is very like the N.E.P in Russia under Lenin.

Yep. You already are a senator in GA, so unless two more Georgians come around, since there is one more senate seat, don't worry. Just keep your seat... :)

In Europe universal healthcare has almost 100% support. Why that? Think about it!
In Canada, universal healthcare isn't a question of support, it's a dogma.

BTW Which Senate seats are currently available by now ? :) I'd like to get one.  If available, I'd like one from Florida, there's many French Canadian around Miami and the weather must be warmer than the -30 to -40F we get here in Ottawa since a couple of weeks.

Mass117. Universal healthcare is dogma also in Europe, (And in Australia, NZ, Israel...) not only in Canada.
