Post by: ○∙◄☻¥tπ[╪AV┼cVê└ on November 09, 2006, 03:07:13 PM
Of the 14 members,

2 retired, and their seats flipped
6 were defeated
2 weren't up for election
4 were re-elected

Re-elected: Senator Snowe (ME), Rep. Shays (CT), Rep. Biggert (IL), Rep. Kirk (IL)
Not up: Senator Collins (ME), Senator Specter (PA)

*sigh*

Lest we not forget the theocrats like Rick Santorum and Randy Graf that were resoundingly defeated also.

Lest we forget the primary challenge Lamar Alexander so rightfully deserves. I hope he fails miserably in his bid for Whip...if that loser is still trying for it.

I'm saddened that Jim Leach and Lincoln Chafee were forced to bear the brunt of the failure of the Bush-Republican Congress.

They could have saved themselves by switching parties.

I never knew that about Bass and Bradley.

To be honest, the GOP clearly didn't care for the political futures of Leach, Chafee et al. They were seen as awkward and unwelcome. Chafee never got the support he deserved from his own men.

Republicans for Choice: Destroying the lives of the working class - even before they are born!

The Democrats beat the Republicans to the center, mainly because the Republicans got caught assuming the same stuff that won them elections in the past would win them this year.
Lesson #1: If the GOP nominates a conservative for President in 2008, they will lose.
Lesson #2: If the Dems nominate a liberal, it is they who will lose.

Compare here:

Republicans for choice: Tiny page, only 6/14 members remain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republicans_For_Choice

Democrats for life: Much longer page. Many more members, and some in unexpected places (NY, MA, RI).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democrats_for_Life

The Democratic party is a moderate party. The Republican party is a batsh**t crazy party.

More on Republicans losing their moderates.

Only 2/7 of the Republicans who voted against the Iraq war are left.

Sen. Chafee - DEFEATED 2006
Rep. Duncan - RE-ELECTED
Rep. Hostettler  - DEFEATED 2006
Rep. Houghton  - RETIRED 2004
Rep. Leach  - DEFEATED 2006
Rep. Morella  - DEFEATED 2002
Rep. Paul - RE-ELECTED

I'm pretty sure there are additional pro-choice GOPers who aren't mentioned on the wikipedia article:

Mary Bono (CA-45)
Brian Bilbray (CA-50)

Mike Castle (DE-AL)

Wayne Gilchrest (MD-01)

Jim Ramstad (MN-03)

Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11)

Deborah Pryce (OH-15)

Charlie Dent (PA-15)

That basically tells Republicans to oppose choice, or the Democrats will win.
That basically tells us moderates will tend to be elected in swing districts.
