Title: Jon Corzine's Religion
Post by: DownWithTheLeft on May 28, 2007, 08:14:32 PM
I was suprised at how many people agree with me that they thought he was Jewish.  I think it deserves it's own topic

Why do people think he's Jewish?  He's of plain-gentile Dutch extraction, I thought?

His last name sounds Jewish, people associate it because Lautenberg is Jewish (I mean I think he is but I'm starting to doubt), and his beard and glasses.  The guy looks Jewish and his name sounds like it, what more does it take?

"Corzine" doesn't sound all that Jewish to me.  It sounds Dutch.

Try saying with a Jewish accent, it flows really well.  Conan is the one who brought that up to me and I thought so after thinking about it.  However, it was the looks that he me convinced.

I have to admit I thought he was Jewish.  Isn't he Catholic in fact?

Before I looked it up I thought the guy was a typical American whose ancestors came there 300 years ago and that he was either Catholic or Protestant. Corzine doesn´t sound Dutch at ALL and I know lots of Dutch people ...

Actually, it does sound sort of Dutch, though the spelling's obviously not Dutch. Try thinking "Corzijn".

Yeah, if you look at it in this way ... I´m just flooded by the Van Nistelroy, Van Bronkhorst, Seedorf, Robben, Verkerk, Kluivert, van Haestregt, Spierenburg, Westerholt, den Adel types of names, but not the americanized writing/spelling of Corzine. Actually I always pronounced it as "Car-Sin" ... :P

And, in fact, much was made of the fact that Jon Corzine and Bob Franks actually attended the same church together every Sunday in Summit back in 2000.
