Prohibited? No. Heavily restricted? Yes.

I'm against this bill. Tasers ought to be used sparingly, but they should not be eliminated altogether.

I oppose this legislation.

I shudder to think how many more police killings there would be without tasers.

More. I'm fairly sure pre-taser numbers would back me up on that.

I have to agree completely with both Jake and Sam in my opposition to this bill. While tasers and other such weaponry can be very dangerous when used improperly they are, by far, much less dangerous than the alternative, deadly force.

I shudder to think how many more police killings there would be without tasers.

Just to make myself clear, I'm talking about police killing suspects.

Count myself among those opposed.  I recognize the dangers of taser use, but I also recognize that they're much safer for all involved than the alternatives.

As long as police use tasers responsibly, which I believe to be the case in 99.9% of instances, I think it's an appropriate tool in their arsenal.

I'd like to echo the previous sentiments against this bill. Yes, sometimes the use of tasers is taken too far, but I'm pretty sure police would resort to handguns too often if they did not have the taser as an alternative.

I was going to make an argument about why this is a bad idea, but I see this has already been done. Therefore, I will simply say that I support the arguments of the other senators, and respectfully ask the Senator to withdraw the bill, so as to allow a new piece of legislation to reach the floor.

The Pacific Region has not experienced an increase in police brutality since instating its ban on taser use.

In many countries it is unheard of for normal police to be armed with handguns and tasers in the first place.  But I guess the culture of violence always wins out even in the most "liberal" of Senates.

That is a dishonest assertion at best with no GM.

A somewhat different debate than the one this bill inspires.
